Weird thing happened with a strand of my hair

I'm wearing my hair in a braidout that I put into a high ponytail. I just ran my fingers across the length of the tail and one strand of hair, that has shed (white bulb on end) came out. No problem. I always examine shed strands and check the elasticity. Before I even got a change chance to check, I noticed a split end smack dab in the middle of the strand. The weird part about the split end was that the split was curly and not straight.

Now how did this happen?

See Peachtree's post under the thread called "The Truth About Split Ends." She posted a great website and it talked about splits that happen in the center of the hair shaft and make more of a 'hole' rather than a split.
