Hi everyone

I'm happy that I found this board... I have some biiiiiig problems with my hair and I would love to get some good advice.

Hmmm This will problably be long, so if you're not ready for it, don't read it

I stopped going to my hairdresser last year because I think that the crazy lady was trying to make ALL of my hair fall out! For the most part I would get a press and curl, she would wash and condition my hair, then blowdry and then HOTcomb (Can anyone say heat damage?) my hair with all of this thick, petroleum based pressing oil stuff. Then every 2 weeks I would come in and do it again. Then I did the unthinkable and asked for a relaxer. I don't even know the name of the relaxer she used, but it was a no-lye relaxer. She also colored my hair dark brown (it was in the reaxer) without me asking her to. So now I was stuck with damaged relaxed hair and to make it worse I didn't have any of my pretty medium borwn highlights (the hair coloring)!!!

I decided to try and take care of my hair alone, because I'd been going to her for years and my hair looked horrible.

So now it's a year later and my hair is in much better condition with highlights and everything

. It's still not in the best condition. It's a little more than five inches long all around, except for the back. My hairdresser shaved that part bald saying that she was just cleaning up my hairline. I haven't even noticed that it's so short in the back, or that my natural hairline isn't way up there

, I never conditioned or put anything on it because I didn't know it was there! But I'm happy to say that once I started paying attention to that part it started growing back in. My hair is more managable, but it only has a litte bit of body. It's soft, but not silky soft. It's very shiny on it's own. It looks good, but I want it to look more like YOUR hair... you all have such pretty hair.

I started out with 3 inches of hair, but i trimed that off because it was the relaxed, colored hair from my hairdresser. I also cut a little more than that off, so I'm left with about 5 inches. Good growth for a year, wouldn't you say so?

I've been using motions with oil relaxer in regular strength, which left me with texturized (I think) hair. When it's wet it looks like my normal hair, but I wet set it and it's straight. My natural hair type is crazy... 4b around the edges, 4a and 3c on the inside. It's like the further you are away from my crown, the curlier the hair is. Before my last relaxer I didn't have much breeakage, but I think that I may have overlapped. I did 2 protein treatments with nexxus emergencee, and it stopped most of it. It STILL breaks though (especially when I wash my hair), much more than I'm accustomed to. But I know that I can't put anymore protein on it for a while.

My regimen is:

Do a conditioner wash every 2 days.
Deep condition with keracare humecto.
I've been trying to find a good detangler to put on after, but I haven't found it yet.
Wet set with motions nourish leave-in, keracare's leave in and wgo with magnetic curlers. I also put s-curl on the back.

On the last wash of the week I use a gentle shampoo to wash my hair, Elasta QP Shampoo for relaxed hair or Elasta QP Crème conditioning shampoo.

Once a month I clarify my hair with suave clarifying Or if I have enough dinero, I use nexxus aloe rid. Then I use a protein conditioner/reconstructor. Either Nexxus Keraphix,Motions Oil Moisturizer Moisture Silk Protein Conditioner,IC Reconstructor,Nexxus Emergencee followed by keracare humecto.

On days I don't wash I spritz my hair with diluted motions nourish leave in conditioner, then at night I spritz it again and put hollywood beauty carrot creme and a tiny bit of wgo on the ends and put it in curlers for the night.

I usually don't sleep on my head

, but if I do I put on a silk scarf or one of those magic scarves (moisturizing one).

About every 3 or 4 months I get a relaxer. I'm switching to affirm lye.

well that's all. What I wanna know is what am I doing wrong???!!???

Why do I still have so much breakage? It's about 20 hairs coming out when I wash it and 10 coming out when I don't! It used to be 2 hairs! Also, what can I do to make my hair silkier? Is there anything wrong with my regimen?

Oh.. I forgot to add that I take plenty of vitamins, and drink 8 glasses of water a day. What I eat... most of the time is healthy
smile.gif
. My diet isn't SO bad.

It would be a big help to get some advice, ladies.

Another thing... all of these smilies are so cute

Sounds like you have a pretty good regimen. Maybe it's shedding and not breakage. Are the hairs that come out long, which would probably indicate shedding, or short, which would indicate breakage?

I don't have a problem with shedding, in fact now that I think about it, I only see a litlle bit of shed hairs a day. I know it's supposed to be around 50 or so. I wonder how that's possible... But most of the hair that comes out has no little bulb on the end, so it has to be breakage. Half of it are long hairs and half are short.

ummm, i dontk know what to tell you b/c it seems like your doing everything fine. maybe it is one of the products that you are using. maybe it is not right for your hair. i dont know but your regime sounds great. keep up the good work.

Welcome to the board!

I can't believe she colored your hair without your permission, and she cut the back! That's so shady.

For the detangling, a great detangler (I hear) is Biolage Detangling Solution and Biolage Leave-In Tonic. On the cheap side (the one I use) is Aussie Slip Detangler.

Your regimen sounds really good, and yet you still are experiencing breakage.

Perhaps you need to just try different products. The ones you are using just may not be agreeing with you.

Also, if you suspect that you may have hard water (they are kits available to be sure), then you need a shower filter. Hard water could be the culprit.

I know we have to manipulate our hair the most while it's wet, even though that's when it's most fragile. Be extremely careful combing and styling. Don't rush through detangling.

So you usually don't sleep on your head? How do you know ??I'm just kidding. That's what I try to do if I'm dead tired and don't want to search for my silk scarf.

I would get a satin pillow case just to be sure.

Good luck
