Hello, im back after sooo long (pregancy and gave birth in july so very tired).

ive bee, sooo bad with my hair throughout that time (i had no time to take car of myself). I hot ironed like 4 times, i guess i did i wrong i must have had a bit of heat damage in the middle.

anyway, my hair is natural and im so upset to see that it almost stays at the same stage (length).

Yesterday i cut a good amount of my ends, it hearts but i might have to do it to catch up my mistakes and laziness.

QUESTION :When wearing extension braids do you do anything in your hair?
wont the braids last shortly if i moistures, wash them, oil them??

i think its the only protective style that will not break my hair. i might have to just braid all the time to get length. im so fed up of feeling like there is no progress. its soooo anoying.i felt like chopping it short and leaving nothing but i didnt...

need your advice.
I gonna start vitamins too, im starting first with cod liver oil.. then in 2 months maybe start a special hair vitamin.

it all depends on the hair your using the style and how you wash your hair

i wash & condition and oil my scalp on a weekly basis when im wearing braids

my last set of large fluffy kinky twist lasted the longest i was able to wash, condition and deep condition without the hair turning into a frizzy mess

more recently i had yarn braids and they turned frizzy mess faster then anything i ever used but it added some character it made them look more like dreads so i didnt mind to much

silenttullip you're a nut. A mention would've brought me here sooner.

OP, when someone is new to braids, I always recommend they follow the regimen Robin suggests because it has helped a lot of people: The Crown and Glory Method. (WTH happened to the site? The URL www.growafrohairlong.com isn't taking me there. :wallbash:)

I don't know whether you straightened your hair to put braids but that usually is the only time I see no way to avoid braids looking bad when you wash. That's because straightened hair will shrink when washed and cause an accordion effect on the extension hair making the braids fuzzy. So just remember next time to braid hair that isn't straightened. Stretch it with braids and let it airdry. Then it'll behave like prewashed jeans and not shrink when you wash. When you wash focus on massaging your scalp clean and then squeeze the braids as you start rinsing and water runs through them. No need to rough them up. Do not apply conditioner or products to the base. I don't. I think you end up with a residue that makes the braids knot up. If you must apply products, skip the bottom of your braids. (I personally don't apply anything but just rely on conditioning for moisture. But I'm not suggesting you do this. I really think you should try the Crown and Glory Method at least once or twice then tweak it when you get comfortable with it.

Sorry OP, I'm tired so can't look for answers that can help you right now. If you tag me tomorrow, I'll remember to do it.

Before I braid my hair I always do a deep cleansing, protein treatment (Aphogee), and deep condition. I let my hair air dry, oil my scalp lightly with castor oil, massage it for about 3 minutes, and then braid. After my braids are in I DO NOT add anymore oil to my scalp or wash the braids, I just let them be. I usually keep my braids in for about 3 weeks.

thanks a lot ladies. Im gonna get my braids in tuesday.
I'll try keeping them either a month, or 6 weeks. If so maybe i'll wwash them every 2 weeks and a half or 3 weeks with the method above (squeezing and not rubbing like i usually do). And im gonna moisture with my home spritz i guess (water, glycerin, oil).
i usually use s curl no drip but its gonna be too heavy for braids.

coolsista-paris, one of the veterans of LHCF, Adrienne0914 used S Curl on her braids. If I were moisturizing my hair when in braids that's what I'd use too, so I personally don't find it heavy at all for anything. But I'm a fine one to speak coz I go bare. :p
