What is your prepoo method?

I am currently with the understanding that prepoo(whatever that means) occurs before you shampoo and then condition.

Please share your method for prepooing!!!

I apply conditioner to dry unwashed hair, cover with a hot wet hair turban then cover with a plastic cap.

I prepoo with V05 strawberries and cream or Suave tropical coconut conditioner, Amla oil/or powder and Red Palm Oil... I saturated my dry hair with it cover with plastic cap and sit under the dryer for 30min

Currently my pre-poo method is massaging castor oil on dry hair in the evening, pinning hair up, going to bed and shampooing in the morning. Sometimes, instead of the castor oil, I substitute shea butter, hemp seed butter, or Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment.

Nicole, Sareca has some excellent ideas on pre-pooing in this thread:

Isn't LHCF the ish???? :lick:

do you prepoo all the time before shampooing and conditioning?

I have heard so much about the castor oil, but I hadn't heard about the castor oil being a way to prepoo. That's pretty interesting, it is my guess that this working wonders for you :yep:

Lately i've been adding oils (EVOO or Alma) or conditioners (reconstructors) to dry hair with a plastic cap and leaving it in overnight. My hair really loves this!

I prepoo overnight with olive oil. I put olive oil on my dry hair, massage it through, cover with a plastic cap, cover with satin bonnet and then go to sleep.

My main prepoos are oils. I have been using castor oil, amla, and red palm. I made a mix of red palm, glycerine, aloe vera, honeyquat, and castor oil that works great on dry hair. I either do an overnite or leave it in a few hours. I usually incorporate some heat in there somewhere. If I use a conditioner, I will add one of these oils to some ORS Hair Mayo, AB Hair Mayo, Redken Rescue Force, or Lamaur Bone Marrow.
Actually, my last wash, I used some mowrah butter on my hair under the dryer with some Cholesterol. My hair came out very strong and smooth and nourished. I have used the butter a few times now and it is a definite hit! :yep:

I put coconut oil on my scalp the night before. Then in the morning, I add some more coconut oil (warmed) to ORS Mayo and then put on a cap for 30 or so minutes.

I think I definitely have the general idea now.

When I next wash, I am going to put a mixture of conditioner/oil ( I will probably heat the mixture)...then I am going to use a hot towel to help retain the heat ( I will probably end-up reheating the towel atleast once) and then finally jumping in the shower for my regualar shampoo/conditioning!

I was using my molasses/condish as a prepoo before I started using ORS hair mayo. Now I've switched back to the molasses/condish method. I just mix the 2, part my hair into 3 sections, apply the mixture to each section, slap a conditioning cap on and leave on for about an hour or so. It works fine for me (and gives me that extra bit of protein!)

I like to massage oil in, alma, or another indian oil, cover with a plastic cap and sit under a warm dryer or cover with a warm towel for 30 minutes to an hour.

So When you guys use the hot towels, are you putting the towel directly on your conditioner saturated hair, or do you al use a plastic cap and then put the towel on top of the cap?

I usually put the hot towel directly on my saturated hair and then top with a shower cap to trap the heat in.

I put coconut oil on my scalp then on the lenght I use ojon restorative treatment or aveda sap moss concentrate.

I prepoo with Brazil Nut moisturizing hair mask from the Body shop, cover with plastic cap and leave it on for 20min, I used to leave it overnight in my first year as a natural, I don't anymore.

I switch up between oils and conditioner's. If I use oil I will choose either Ojon restorative treatment or Castor oil. If I use conditioner I use either ORS Mayo sealed with castor oil or Aubrey GPB also sealed with castor oil. I do one or the other overnight before every wash.

I've been trying to get some reviews on the Ojon. When I first did my BC I went to a natural hair salon to buy some products. There was a girl there with a gorgeous thick/long natural mane & she said she didn't experience any real growth until she started using Ojon. However, when I tried to find some web reviews/opinions, they seemed to all be from caucasian women. I want to try it but I wanted to hear some opinions from my sisters. Thanks in advance...
BTW I pre-poo with a honey & EVOO mix from motowngirl.com or I use a prepoo recipe from Chicoro (member of LHCF & Fotki).

My PRE POO is MY DEEP CONDITIONER TOO.
  • I part my hair in 4 sections, apply Silicon Mix
  • apply plastic cap
  • apply hot, towel turban
  • apply another plastic cap
  • sit under warm dryer for 10-15 mins.
  • reapply silicon mix to areas prone to dryness
  • sit under dryer for another 10-15 mins
  • reapply MORE silicon mix to areas prone to dryness
  • sit under dryer for a final 10-15 mins.
  • For a total of 30-45 mins
  • Rinse out in the shower
Sometimes I do this daily but if I do it daily...
I don't do the 4 sections, I just slap on some Humectant
and follow the rest of directions.

I part my hair in four sections, spray each section with warm water and apply a light conditioner. I make a bun out of each section, spray some more warm water (mixed with the light conditioner this time) on it (avoiding the scalp), put a shower cap on for 20 minutes and then rinse and proceed to shampooing my scalp.

I part my hair down the middle and apply ORS replenishing cond. to each side and cover with a plastic cap for about an hour. My hair loves it. However this Friday I'm going to try it with Elasta QP DPR-11 hopefully my hair will love this as well.

I do my pre poo as my dc. I use what ever deep conditioner I am using ( Silcon Mix, Capalio, ORS) and some Alma and Castor Oil, put on my turbo towel and plastic cap and sit under the dryer for about 20 min., rinse in the shower, poo and add MissKey 10n1 rinse and set.

I may try SouthernTease's method of reapplying coditioner to my dry areas.
