Mine was definately with Optimum Care Vitaplex Remoisturizing conditioner. I don't know what the heck went wrong. My hair was looking great and I wanted to try a new conditioner. I did the regular routine of washing and conditioning, I roller set using the Optimum Designing lotion and went under the drier. All is well.

When my hair was dry I was eagerly removing my rollers to see how my hair would come out, and my hair came out! Literally!! I was loosing clumps of hair left and right. I had to swallow my heart back down my throat. It was sheer nerves of steel that kept me from crying! The shedding eventually stoped but after about 10 minutes. By that time there was hair all over the bathroom floor and I was feeling like I had lost my best friend. Needless to say, I never used those two products again! Whew!! Glad that's past!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I didn't think anything could be worse than my grandmother's homemade grease with sheep fat, dogbane, pine tar and Sulfer 8. And y'all think WGO and Glover's smell bad... /images/graemlins/grin.gif

But in the mid 90's I was going to VA Beach for Spring Break and I got my hair done in pineapple waves /images/graemlins/grin.gif with that nasty brown gel. I think it was called Pre-Con Gel. Within 36 hours my head was itching and flaking like crazy. But I didn't want to ruin my 'do, so I waited five days before I shampooed.
I didn't dare try to comb through that mess. But when I wet my hair, it all stuck together! I lost handfuls of hair trying to wash that garbage out. I ended up using dish detergent. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they put glue in that stuff!
Afterwards, my friends would make fun of me for buying 'white girl gel'. Oh well...

Wow! I guess my experience wasn't that bad then. The most that has ever happened to me after a bad product experience was that my hair was matted or extremely frizzy after it dried. That has actually happened more often than I care to recall. Dudley's shampoo and conditioner did this to my hair as well as Biostrand shampoo. Aubrey's GPB was the worse! I had to rewet my hair in order to even separate it enough to comb it. Even then my hair was a brillo pad for a week!

This happened to me years ago the first time I used Nexxus Therappe and Botanoil Shampoos. What a disatster! The GPB works wonders on my hair, though. /images/graemlins/confused.gif I'll just chalk it up to my hair weirdness!
The hardness and matting has been happening a lot lately while I search for the perfect light detangling spray. I have to wet my hair to comb it or I'll rip it out of my head. Almost everything I've tried makes my hair feel dry and hard when it dries--Infusium 23, Fantasia Leave-In w/Aloe, Pantene Light Conditioning Spray... the list goes on. The best I've found is Sofn' Free n' Pretty Olive Oil Detangler. It's a children's line like Just for Me or US Kids.

LOL!! Oh my goodness, I do more laughing on this board than anything else! Too funny! /images/graemlins/grin.gif The things we put in our hair! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sassygirl, no you DIDN'T say sheep fat!! LOL. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

My worst product experience was using Nexxus Humectress. This 'miracle product' (according to Shamboosie) did nothing for my hair. At all. My hair felt hard when I combed it out, and it looked very dry with no shine when I took the rollers out. I lost a fair amount of hair during each comb out after using Humectress.

I LOVE the Motions line, though!! The Lavish Conditioning shampoo, Moisture Plus conditioner, and Nourishing leave-in conditioner. I'm still experimenting and seeing what products work best for me, and the Motions has been the best hands down! My hair feels really soft after it's washed, combing it out is a breeze, and I lose relatively little hair. It really helps moisturize my hair, which I really need considering I've got a lot of no-lye underprocessed hair to grow out.

I guess my Nexxus experience wasn't as bad, compared to what the other ladies have shared. I've been lucky, so far . . .

LOL
YES! And it looked even worse than it smelled. Like lumpy, freckled, beige jelly... All the "cool" girls used Long-Aid. They teased me and my cousins by saying we put boo boo in our hair!
ROTFLMBO /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif
My father forced my mother to stop using it when he was trapped in the car with us for a long road trip. In the winter time with all the windows rolled up and the heat on. /images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Thanks Dad!

I thought I was gonna do a "super lubricating" hot oil treatment and use pure letchethin instead and left it on with a cap for a few hours.

I had the "is this GLUE?" experience, It turned white andmy hair stuck together. I used up a bottle of shampoo and almost used dishwashing soap, but I just scrubbed my hair SOOOOO hard!!!! I'm sure I lost some hair.

It was horrible and gross, my letchthin went right into the trash after that.

well my bad experiences stem from improper use of products like wen i used the fantasia ic treatment for the first time, i assumed that i cud leave it in my my hair for as long as possible and get good results like i did wit my cholesterol, /images/graemlins/naughty.gif BIG MISTAKE!! the relaxed part of my hair got tangled and hard and the natural bit underneath decided to get knotted and never had i realised how impossible it is to comb out kinky, knotted hard hair /images/graemlins/frown.gif

now i kno better than to leave the protein on for so long especially on natural hair /images/graemlins/smile.gif

ngaa

Probably using Motions CPR. My hair was so tangled and knotted it looked like a birds nest and took forever to comb. It was actually a bit frightening at how long it took to comb out /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I forget the name of the product but it was henna and placenta based. It was a deep conditioner and my hair HATED it! It was hard and dry looking absolutely awful. Now I stay away from anything with henna or placenta! YUCK!!!!

sheep fat, /images/graemlins/nono.gif dogbane,(what is this?, nevermind) /images/graemlins/nono.gif pine tar /images/graemlins/nono.gif and Sulfer 8 - Well maybe.

Nooo, not Grandmas Grease /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

LOL

Mmm isn't this sad I actually have quite a few that come to mind. I'll just share my most recent. Aphogee protein treatment that turns hard and stinky is probably one of the worst products I've used to date. It left my hair a hard, dry, tangled mess and this after using Elucence MB as a rinse out and a leave in. A bit too potent for my liking. I'll stick to my GBP which is much gentler.

That sheep fat and homemade grease is hilarious! I'm not gonna even ask how it was made! /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

I used a moisturizing conditioner which was exactly like Motions as far as ingredients listed. It was also cheaper. That stuff made my hair crystalize and stick together. I could also feel the cuticles just stand at attention. That junk is still in my closet today.

Honi and Mindymouse--You talkin' bout my gramamma?! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dogbane is the country word for indian hemp. I have absolutely no idea how my grandmother got her hands on indian hemp and sheep fat! I'll let that remain a mystery! But she used to cook this stuff in her backyard in a big kettle over a fire like the ones in the hillbilly movies. She also made soap and washed clothes in this pot. Even after her kids bought her a washer and dryer! It was embarrassing! But she had long hair so everyone wanted some. She should have sold it and made some $$$, but she just gave it away.

The absolute worst for me was Motions CPR Conditioner! It made my hair so stiff and hard! /images/graemlins/mad.gif And the little seeds and herbs in it really irked me!

Sassygirl: sounds like your grandma could have been the next Madame CJ Walker.... /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My worst products: Aphogee and Ion protein treatments(hard hair, uncombable hair), Jason's Sea kelp shampoo & conditioner (Healthy, low ph, but hair was hard to comb out afterwards.) That's all I can think of at the moment /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Mine wasn't a product, but I remember when I had just transferred from Penn State to the University of Colorado. I had decided to start braiding my own hair since I was going to be waaaayyyy out in Colorado on my own. Well, I braided my hair with synthetic hair and left it go....for months...(yep, in that dry Colorado weather)only spraying it with Infusium 23 here and there. I got this crazy idea from my mom doesn't use hairgrease (because she's got a different hair texture) but I didn't know enough to realize that I was not supposed to follow her lead, so I didn't use any moisturizer either. Anyyywwayyyy, I took those braids out after a few months of having them in and I had about..ohhhhhh TWO inches of hair. I ran over to my neighbor's apartment BEGGING for some assistance and she just stared at me for about 10 straight minutes. She hadn't realized the extensions were not my own hair (go figure, she was black too) and she seemed really ecstatic that I wasn't as "perfect" as she thought I was. She even had the nerve to say that she thought that was all my hair and that I was just mixed or something and chuckled when she saw the "real" me. It was just mortifying. I still shudder to this day thinking of that synthetic braiding hair. This girl needs some moisturized hair. As for my mom, all I can do is stare and wonder why she didn't give me some of that 3b/c hair. *sighs*

Two Aveda Conditioners. The Aveda Curessence turned my hair into a dry mess, then turned it to sludge...just a nasty experience overall. The Aveda Cherry Almond Bark conditioner. Why? It did absolutely nothing for my hair..talk about hard to comb out tangles...real understatement.

I used these right before I started using Aubrey on a regular basis. I think I should be more open to trying some of the Aveda products that people talk about like the Aveda Sap Moss shampoo which sounds great, but that experience soured me badly re Aveda overall /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Geez, I thought I was the only one who didn't care for this conditioner. The only things it did for my hair was make it difficult to comb and gave it a VERY loud scent. I didn't like the Deep Penetrating Conditioner either. It had a VERY loud scent, and it made my hair difficult to comb. Other Aveda products that I tried and didn't like were the Elixer and the Sap Moss shampoo. /images/graemlins/down.gif

Needless to say, I will never use any Aveda hair care products again. /images/graemlins/nono.gif

lol Tara /images/graemlins/grin.gif That must have been a horrid experience but dishwashing soap. You must have been in trouble!!!!!!!

1. Pantene Shampoo and conditioner. I got suckered in by the commercial, got a bottle and the serious breakage that came with it

2. Garnier hair colour. Suckered again by the commercial (are you getting the trend) and had a botched job done. I ended up with purplish dry hair when it was supposed to be brown.

3. Water. (Yet again by recommendation). Mixed water and glycerine to spritz my natural hair. I ended up with a wet head, tufts of hair and a broken comb.

4.Microbraids. This does not qualify as a disaster but it is so annoying to spend two days braiding the hair only for my boyfriend to stare in amazement and say, "There's something different, your face looks healthy (polite word for chubby)."

Is your hair natural or relaxed?

It's a tie between the Breakthru conditioner, which left my hair feeling rough and very tangled and Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo, which did the same thing. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Lecaste

Good question Allandra!!!

When I used the pantene and garnier hair colour, I was relaxed, thinking about going natural

The water and microbraids disaster came as I had decided to go natural. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
