your hair..

you know, processed a couple of minutes longer than the relaxer suggested because your hair wasnt as straight as you wanted..

The longest I can remeber processing was about 28 minutes...

The max on the jar says 22 minutes. I left it on 28 minutes. The last time I relaxed I left it on 25 minutes but now I know 28 minutes is the best for me.

Goodness guys. Maybe that's why I feel that most relaxers don't work for me. If I leave them on for the amout of time in the instructions, my new growth just laughs at me!!!

TCB Naturals (the original one) is the only relaxer that I have used that actually works in the amount of time in the instructions. Even the last sytlist I went to told me she wanted to leave it in longer since my hair never responds.

I would be freaking out if I left it in for more than 20 min or so.

the most i've gone over is 10 minutes. my hair is never stick straight though. i'm giving up and going to the salon for that.

When I self-relaxed this past Monday, it took me a total of 50 minutes.

Wow...50...and it's still underprocessed in 15% of your head.

I am embarassed to say.

Back in the day when I used to selk-relax, I would leave it in for about an hour! With no problems at that, except for thinning sides and I coldn't retain length for nothing.

Now, it takes me about 10-15 minutes to apply and I leave it on for about 15-20 minutes.

1 hour and 15 minutes. But I was at the salon getting a corrective with Affirm Fiberguard Lye...and wouldn't you know I still had some errant kinks at my temples and forehead, ? That's my 7g type hair there.
:lachen:

My hair was bone straight for the first time in my life, though.

OK, so Im not crazy, cuz in trying to not underprocess, I was doing the time suggested on the relaxer and man, my stuff just dont get as straight as I want...

One of the best relaxers I ever had was a Bantu and my neighbor left it on for a good 45 minutes... LOL

No you're not crazy. As I think back since I've been getting lye relaxers, if I compare a few of the stylists I've had, the one that left it on for a good amount of time was the one that got my hair the straightest. (they used the same relaxer too--Affirm lye) It seems like one of them knew that it was easier to underprocess with lye because even after she'd finished applying the relaxer, she'd make you just sit and wait... But my hair always got straight.

i would say about 18 minutes including application and sitting time. i can never seem to get it all done 15 minutes so i downgrade to a mild

when i used to go to the dominicans to get my hair done they would levae it on for 45 minutes.... and it was probably a super strength  I always had see through ends and it never grew past shoulder. When i got older I would always bring my own relaxer and never let them keep it on for longer than 25 minutes.

My sister does my hair now so we never leave it on longer than 25 minutes

I meant to say trying not to OVERPROCESS!!!
Well then next relaxer I will be working it for a little bit longer

You guys are freaking me out!! 50 minutes!! Sheesh. Well, if it ain't broke....

I use Revlon Lye and I usually take about 10-15 to apply and then process and smooth for another 10-15. That's it for me. I have a super sensitive scalp and even when based and can't go for much longer than that.

revlon lye ain't no joke. I used that one time and I had it in and out in under 20 min. My hair was really straight.

The longest for me was about 35 min.

I left my Silk Elements relaxer on for 18 minutes and my hair is definitely "texlaxed" which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm thinking next time I should maybe leave it on for 20 minutes to get it a little straighter...:scratchch

OMG!!!!! My hair would be gone if i left it in for 50 mins. For awhile my hair wouldn't be all the way straight if i used a super and left it in for the max time. But with my last few relaxers i have used Just for Me and if i left it in for 25 mins my hair is dead straight. I never liked my hair relaxed dead straight so i would jsut leave it in for 20 mins.

I did have a friend that if you used super on her hair you could leave it on an hour it it wouldn't be that straight. No breakage either. She had shoulder length and and you would need 2 jars/ She had super thick strands of hair.

DAMNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!! wow you guys leave it on a long time!:eek:,, im thinking its a matter of resisitance to getting straight and that depends on hair type? anyone with 3b/c leave it on longer than 18 mins?? I myself havent relaxed since sept and wont be ever again but when i did i think i did it for 18 or so mins,, and i still had crispy hair,,, i cant imagine whatd happen after 45

I know that next time I need to leave it on for longer than 23 minutes :ohwell:
Maybe 35 next time, cuz this one didnt take as well as I wished
