if you wear any type of hair extensions such as braids or phony ponies that automatically that means you have very short hair or no hair. My hair is by no means short,in fact, it's almost to the point you can consider it long. In order to maintain my length I wear braid extensions. Yet, when the topic of hair and length come up during a conversation with a non-extension person they act as if I am lying about my hair being as long as is it. Does anyone else experience this?

I haven't experienced it, but I hate hate hate when people automatically assume that because a celebrity wears a weave, she doesn't have any hair. I mean, could it not be possible that celebrites wear weaves because they want to protect their real hair? Why is that so hard to comprehend?

I SOOOOOOOO agree

they're small minded. I've had people ask me why I wear fake hair when I have long hair (speaking of my phony ponytail). Dumb question to me. It's an accessory in my book.

lol I wear weave so much and my hair is bra strap and nowhere near being thin. When people think my hair is short I just tell them that it is. Then they make a comment like "no it's not! ur hair isn't short." I think it's just the fact that I agreed with them that they changed their mind.

When I first began working at my job last year there was an African American girl I became friends with. She had an ear length bob. The condition of her hair was fairly decent except for the fact the back was shorter than the rest of her hair. Anyway, during the Spring she started wearing a ponytail extension and the entire summer she had braid extensions. About 2 months ago she took her braids out and wore her hair in a wrap. Overall, she gained about an inch and a half of new growth and her hair is now shoulder length. So one day I saw her in the elevator and I complimented her on her hair. What did I do that for? She started going on about how her hair was longer at one time, but she's always cutting her hair and how everyone thinks her hair is a wig(it wasn't all that). I proceeded to tell her how long my was and how my mother is always asking me why bother with the braids with the length of my hair. She basically gave me a yeah, right b**** look and proceeded to talk over me about her hair. You better believe that will be the last time I give her a compliment. Besides, people can think what they want about my hair it just makes it all the better when I finally wear it down and they see how long it is. I can't wait!!!

Yup, the same alwasy happens to me when I wear braids and my hair is always longer than the person who is assuming I am bald.

Hey girl
wave.gif

It's good to see you
smile.gif

I can totally relate to what you are saying. I have been dealing with it for 2 weeks now. I have that curly senationnel weave on and the people at work keep making comments..."oh, this isn't your real hair", "oh, your hair must be short", etc. Like it's any of their DAMN business
mad.gif
anyways. I keep telling them that my hair is much, much longer than the sensationnel weave which is only about 1" past my shoulders but they refuse to believe me so I just let them talk now. I don't even reply anymore...when they talk or ask questions about my hair I just look right at them...right into their eyes without replying...then they finally look away and move on...it's quite funny

YES! It has happened to me
mad.gif
when I wear my hair out they say, why do you wear braids? your hair is too long for them! How can your hair be too long for braids?
spinning.gif

I think its because "usually" people use braids and weaves to grow out short hair. So they automatically assume that what everyone is doing.

I am considering getting braids or something because its a timesaver.

I kinda got that reaction from a girlfriend of mine. I'm exentions as you know and sometimes I will leave one braid out just so that I can touch, play and admire the length that I have achieved since I reged. When showed it to her she was like: "Oh girl you got some hair why are you wearing those braids. I thought your hair was short short. You need to come over to my house and let me put a relaxer in it and give you some banging bangs and your hair will be whipped for the summer and take that
censored.gif
out" I need to tell you I got scared and change the subject fast. Yes I can see where if I were to get a relaxer it will give me more length and all that but I have not learned fully how care for my hair yet. I think
ohwell.gif
I'm very very proud of my 5 1/2 inches
clap.gif
. When I first got here I a 1/2 inch of hair. If it ain't broke don't fix it.:)

They assume such because if they had hair as long as you claim, they would not sport extensions. Somebody called this projection, I think.

This is so true.

It is always the baldheaded ones that are the most critical.

I just started wearing wigs and falls since discovering this board in Oct. I guess I was a little self conscious at first because I told me friends and my enemies to remember my length because I will be wearing wigs this winter.
laugh.gif
I still can't believe I did that. This is my first time wearing them and I absolutely love them and my hair is growing like nobody's business. People are now asking me why do I wear them since I have long hair. Go figure. The next thing I knew quite a few people in my office are wearing wigs.

This is true. They automatically assume that you are baldheaded if you are wearing extensions. (Hmmmm
scratchchin.gif
, well if you were baldheaded, what would you attach the extensions to
laugh.gif
?)

Or they look at you like, why are you wearing such looong extensions. Well, the extensions are long because my real hair is long (do the math

).

Yes, I have had quite a few people assume b/c I am always in braids that I have no hair. I have even had people call me baldheaded. Me and my mother just laugh.

laugh.gif
this used to happen to me ALL the time at my old job because i was the reigning "WIG QUEEN" and nobody had better not tried to still my title either
laugh.gif
i'm talking red one day, blonde the next, brown with the black pieces weaved in it, red with gold highlights, long, bobs or shag!!! i was da bomb!!!! i'm talking about i used to switch it up on back to back days
rofl.gif
short and sassy honeyblonde one day and a long redhead the next
laugh.gif
---let me stop i'm missing my wigs now
wink.gif
anyway yeah, the haters used to be hot because

#1 i was so open about wearing wigs and would even hook girls up with the ladies that i bought from (and they would come to work looking good too
smile.gif
) they hated this because since i was open about it i guess they couldnt say i was "acting like it was my real hair or a weave" i'm assuming.

#2 i looked hot while they all looked a hot mess!!!

#3 when they saw my real hair in a braidout (i used to wear cornrows under my wigs to grow my hair out and would occasionally wear a braidout to work) they were just SICK with envy
laugh.gif
the first day i wore it out i made sure it was in full bounce and doin it's thang!!!!

girl let those green women say what they have to say to make themselves feel better---green *** losers
rofl.gif

i could just visualize the hater in each of them growing every time i walked past their desks
laugh.gif
---i'm bad , i know it lol ---jainygirl

See when people at my job say that foolishness, I come in after I take my weave out with a BANGIN doobie, and not say one word, I just let the hair speak for itself....
They got the long face after that, or they're like
