Why do you want long hair & have you ever had to field questions from people asking you why you want long hair?

If you don't want long hair, why not?

So, today I did a saran wrap treatment at home. I noticed that my hair was a little dry after my roller set Sat. Anyway, I had taken it down and my hair was shining and bouncin'. I was so proud!.....

Then I get a comment from a lady (who I respect very much) that wears a TWA. I told her that I am starting a hair journal and I have been visiting hair boards, and that I wanted to grow my hair long...she asks me, "Why do you need long hair?" :ohwell: She proceeded to talk about how she doesn't "fool with all those chemicals, yada yada." (I am relaxed.)

I just looked at her and said, "I just want long hair." I didn't feel like I needed to give her a reason! Personally I think that long hair is attractive & I am tired of wearing my hair short, even though short hair can be very pretty as well.

(Below are pics of my hair before and after the saran wrap treatment today.)

Its about preference.....and what you feel is more flattering.....I do want to grow my hair out long because I love the big poofy hair look....I didnt think I would look good with short hair, but I liked it when I cut it off and I rock it as it grows out, but im workin towards long hair because I like how big curly hair looks...most of the time when I wear wigs and pony's they are styles that I want to see my hair look like eventually.....

b/c i do:lachen:

Yes, I think short hair is very easy and often very pretty, but I have always admired long hair.

Very well put!

Because its' pretty.

I agree. Joining this board exposed me to some of the most beautiful relaxed and natural long hair that I have ever seen!

Because it's something I've never had before. And the novelty of it gives me a high lol

Because I think it looks good on me and ironically I find it easier to maintain. When I had a short style I felt the need to visit a stylist frequently, but with longer hair I find it much more easy to be stylist free.

Your hair looked great in the pictures!

I agree with the poster who loves the big long curls, and waves, I love big, long textured styles.

I also wore my hair short for YEARS, and I love the ease of doing a quick, easy sloppy bun, or the fact that the longer my hair gets, the less perfect it has to be. Every hair doesn't have to be in place, it just .. is.:lachen:

Because I had it before and I looked good with it. Now that I'm older my body is all shapely, ya know - the post-high school look... LOL the longer hair will look great I'll have plenty of styling options

Did the saran wrap change your hair color?

I would just ignore that lady.

:yep: IA with this

Oh, yeah, that too!! The longer it gets, the easier it gets - maybe i just know 'my' hair better, or something - but it's wonderful.

Versatility of different hair styles

Short hair is not a good look for me.

this is one of my favorite wigs...I bought all of the ones left from this beauty supply in houston...this is ideally how i want my hair to look when it gorws all the way out .....I dont know how its gonna go since it doesnt hardly curl in the front at all :(...im hopin maybe it will eventually start growin more curly (does that happen?)

I had shoulder length hair for the past 4 - 5 years.
Told my stylist I wanted to grow it a little longer.
But know I realize she kept cutting it as it grew -- you know the
every 6 or 8 week trim. I my mind I thought it would not grow any longer (had BSL in high school)
So I agreed for her to cut it into a short Bob Feb. 08
I hated it, she did not cut it correctly--- At this time
I have a short term goal of Shoulder Length and long term
of APL:yep::yep:

I also realize I have been using tooooo much heat
Learning how to grow LONG HEALTHY hair here.
I have seen my daughter go from APL to Shoulder Length
in the past three years-- again toooo much heat.

I definitely want long hair, but don't get me wrong, I've been able to work the heck out of some banging short cuts! Long hair is just something that I haven't been able to enjoy while relaxed. Long hair is part of the reason I decided to transition to natural. My hair is so much healthier now and I can't WAIT for another year to pass so I can see just how much it had grown again. I wanna be able to wear my hair in braids and twists having it flow down my back. I wanna be able to change my mind and rock a Badu-esque fro. I think longhair is BEAUTIFUL and when it's natural it's AMAZING!

I think healthy hair comes with a healthy life, mind, body, and spirit. It tells you a lot about a person. From the hairstyle to the length. It says that a person takes pride in something. Don't get me wrong beautiful hair is not everything, but it does take a lot of time and patience. Besides the fact that you can leave the house with pajamas on; but with a nice long hair that you wrapped the night before spells FIERCE...

I think longer hair would suit my face shape better, and I just think it's pretty. I like short sassy styles too, but I want my childhood hair back. I used to have golden blonde hair to the middle of my back as a kid (got a gheri curl in the early eighties-cuz I wanted long curly hair-and this beautician who shall go nameless cut off all my hair, talkin bout she needed to cut of the dead ends..hatin B....oops sorry!) Had to walk around looking like a lil blonde Q-Tip:wallbash:...My hair hasn't been the same since, largely due to bad relaxers and just not knowing how to care for it. Well, I'm in my mid thirties now, and ready to change that, and get what I want!

* I want to feel long hair flowing down my back
* I want everyone to be in awe when I walk by
* I want to laugh in certain people's faces

i've never been questioned because i don't tell people anything .

i want long hair because i've had short hair long enough :look: :ohwell:. additionally, i just think long (or big :)) hair looks better on me and it's so much more versatile.

ITA depending on how short. When my hair was shorter had to keep something done to it or either walk around and look like a fool. I want long hair b/c its easier for ME.

Thanks, Kelle! I used MacherieAmore's youtube tutorial. I agree, too- I feel like my short hair always needs to be "styled."

I see that you noticed that! I don't have any color in my hair....it just changes color like that from (maybe from sun exposure? overprocessing?). So, I think that the moisture from the saran wrap treatment made it look darker, but it's a black/ brown mix. I used to get black rinses to even it out but I don't anymore.

your hair grew out very nicely, I noticed your sig in another thread and was gonna say something and didnt, now I am....looks really good

Cuz I just want to see how long it will grow(Healthy)...sheer curiousity.

Oh and I want to swing it around occassionally sometimes curly and sometimes straight with some a cute outfit and some stilettos too!!!:lachen:

I have NEVER had short hair and I have no idea of how to care for it. I imagine I'd have to learn different techniques to style and care for it as I read what people have to say about the short-long transition and the phases in between.

I also think long hair is aesthetically pleasing on me, but I've never had short hair to compare. I guess I'm old fashioned...I never bought the post 1920s beauty standard for hair and what it was supposed to represent.

My hair was always longer when I was young and when I turned 18, I started experimenting with my hair and I have had everything from a pixie to MBL. I didn't like how long hair made me look so young and I already look really young but the short styles aged me way too much and I didn't like that either. Now that I am older, although I still look really young (I'm 30 but I get mistaken for 16-17), that number scares me enough to be ok with looking like a teenager! :)
