I plan on shampooing and deep conditioning my hair this evening.
/images/graemlins/clap.gifI CANT WAIT TO DEEP CONDITION /images/graemlins/clap.gif
/images/graemlins/mad.gifI HATE HAVING TO PREPARE MY HAIR STYLES /images/graemlins/mad.gif

How often are you shampooing/CO washing your hair and How do you style it?

Oh, good thread. I am curious as well. I was washing once a week followed by flat ironing or hot curling. I noticed my hair is grazing my bra strap after I relaxed last night so I'm going to give the wash and goes one more chance. Since it's so cold in DC I'm going to wash at night and bun during the day. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

the only thing i think i'll be changing is lubricating my scalp more. tends to get drier in the winter. so...

wash 1-2x a week.
rollerset
lube the scalp.

and i guess deep co more. which is kinda hard to do since i pretty much do it every other wash. /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif

I'd be interested in hearing the responses as well. Winter sucks because it's so cold and dry. I just try and take extra care and keep my hair extra protected. It's like it's in some kind of hibernation until Spring! Can't wait to hear what everyone else does.

Right now...I'm entering the 10 week post touch up phase...
there is no style...lol. Have been rocking the headband and clip (alternative to the friggin bun).

I was trying to strecth washing/conditioning to once a week...but this past week I couldn't make it past the fifth day. That may be the case until touch up day.

Do women in warm climates (e.g., Los Angeles) have this winter dryness problem too? I've never noticed any difference in my hair between the seasons.

I'm washing every 2-3 days. During warmer months it's every other day or every 2 days. My skin gets drier in the winter so I can't go much longer b/c then I see flakes. Since I can't walk out w/wet hair I have to wash @ night and then do the styling thing overnight or use the bonnet to dry. I've been doing twistouts and bantu/pincurl sets. The sets last longer anyway air dried, so that's what I try to do. If its late I may sit under the bonnet for about 20 mins on low, until I'm a little drier dry then hit the sack. My knots never dry so I sit again in the morning for about 10 mins.

I think I will add a little glaze then pull it up into a random pony and spiral a few small rollers. After I pick out the curls I may play with the base for a sexy pony. Or then again pin the curls for a curly bun and pull down a few tendrils. I just do not have the patience for a roller set or flat iron right now ...

I'm looking at AC's hair and like..how does SHE have any problem styling that head of hair? It's gorgeous.

My hair is looking like two strands from that Gollum that wanted the Precious in the Lord of the Rings films. /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif

Thanks, but trust me it is a chore /images/graemlins/frown.gif And there isnt a thing wrong with your hair!

Sounds like a solid plan /images/graemlins/smile.gif. I've never put curled hair (not as curly as pincurls are) into a bun. What's it look like?? Don't you end up killing the curl?

I'll continue rinsing my hair nightly and wearing my bun/baggie/phonytail.

OT ~ Legally Speaking, is that you in your avatar? Beautiful hair! /images/graemlins/up.gif

Im going to continue wearing weaves as a protective style keeping my newgrowth and scalp moisturized and spritzing my braids with leave in...

Co-wash every 2-3 days wash once a week....texturize every 3-4 months...

Yeah, but I am not trying to keep them. I would finger comb the curls and pin them into the form of a bun. I just want to add a bit if fun and fullness to the bun. Once I do it (I got lazy so it aint happening to tonight) I will send u a pic.

/images/graemlins/rofl.gif Yeah Gollum needed some serious castor oil scalp massages.

I'm still washing once (occasionally twice) a week. i plan to start wearing braids again next week.

I'm rocking braids and sew-ins all winter long. With braids I condition wash like everyday and shampoo and deep condition twice a week (I work out daily and I love a fresh clean scalp.) With sew-ins I conditon wash everyday (or every other day). I have to skip the shampoo because most of my sew-in are curly-afro like hair and I'm not confident that I do a good job rinsing.

I'm going to continue to go to my stylist every 1 and a half to two weeks for roller sets or roller wraps. When I get my hair set on magnetic rollers the style lasts for a long time without having to be combed every day. So it's sort of a protective method of styling in that I can just cover my hair with a silk or satin scarf or bonnet at night, get up and fluff and go without having to manipulate it with a comb everyday.

I'm also going to wear buns whenever I wear wool or cotton sweaters and tops.

I also bought some wigs today to wear only when the weather is extreme (i.e. super windy days etc.....). That way I can protect my real hair completely from the elements.

I'm also going to try the baggie method.

I feel fully prepared heading into this winter equipped with all of the lhcf knowledge I gathered from last winter's threads.

Shampoo every two weeks...
Shampoos I have: Creme of Nature, ElastaQP Bodifying Shampoo, Pantene R&N Shampoo

After washing/shampooing, use leave-ins: Motions Nourish leave-in Conditioner or Salerm21 all over hair and Silk Elements Glossing Polish on hair ends

Surge Hair Revitalizer Plus 14 on scalp

Ways I dry & style my hair:
1. Rollerset
2. Wet wrap
3. Roll all my hair flipped up (not rolled under) with one large magnetic roller
4. 1-2 ponytails
5. 1-2 braids

I airdry and/or sit under hooded dryer for 30-60 minutes on low-medium heat. Once hair is dry, apply a moisturizer very sparingly.

Moisturize occasionally throughout the week (3-4 times/weekly) with one of the following oil moisturizers and/or oils...
Moisturizers I have: ElastaQP Oil Recovery Moisturizer, Pantene R&N Daily Oil Cream Moisturizer, KeraCare Oil Moisturizer, S-Curl No Drip Activator and Moisturizer, Wild Growth Oil, & mixture of oils (jojoba, olive, carrot, coconut, aloe vera, tea tree)

Deep condition with LeKair's Cholesterol Plus every two weeks

Great thread! For me, the winter is a major weakness...It's so hard to wear a bun and a hat!

I am going to step up my protective styles by implementing more braid styles like french braids and single braids. I will also do more braid outs.

I always deep condition, so that won't be a problem, it's wearing my hair out that is the problem and trying to be cute!

I shampoo and deep condition every 3 days. I rollerset it to airdry overnight, then I usually wear it pinned up in my braided style so I can have a braidout later. Sometimes, I just keep it up in the braided style if I'm too busy or if the weather is really wet and cold.

I've got braids for the winter. I'll be wearing them till may 05. this is the only way I can make sure that I keep moisture in my hair (washing 1-2x a week) and stop the hand in hair disease.

I am washing and conditioning about once a month. What a lazy heifer I've become! No wonder I haven't had to restock any of my hair products in several months.

I last relaxed 09/27, so I'll touchup again any day now.

I take Viviscal and biotin twice daily.

Winter styles:
1. rollerset straight with coconut oil worn down or up in a hair claw with ends exposed
2. braided bun
3. braidout (3 braids with a roller on the loose ends overnight to set it up. Will shine better if greasy pomade is added before braiding at night.)

Great post Audra, /images/graemlins/wave.gif

I'll be sporting my wigs on weekends, off-days, and holidays, and wearing a bun the other times. Greasing my scalp is also a must for Winter!
SG

Condition wash three nights a week. Air dry if time allows. Castor oil and EVOO on ends and tied up with silk scarf before going to bed. In the morning, S-curl and bun. On those few times that I want curl, air-dryed roller set. I want to do very little to my hair since I realized that the cold air and heated buildings dries my hair out something terrible. I'd rather be cute during the warm months with long and healthy hair.

I will be washing once every week with Loreal nature's therapy mega moisture shampoo and condition using their mega moisture conditioner. I usually roller set with either flexi rods or magnetic rollers and that last me the whole week. I just jumped on the shea butter bandwagon because I haven't had a touchup since Aug and I have to say I love that stuff. If i don't rollerset my hair i do a bantu knot set or right now I two-stand twisted my hair and put set them on my flei rods so I have a cool spiral twist curl thing going on. Oh and the only heat appliance that I use is my hooded dryer when I rollerset.

I wash my hair every other day. Since I am stretching out my relaxers, I try to avoid combing (since it may cause breakage). I only comb my hair when it is damp (after a wash) with leave-in in it. I part it to the side and tie it down with a scarf to prevent puffiness. I moisturize and finger-comb it in the morning, then slick it back into a low ponytail. I usually twist the ends into a bantu knot and pin it down. I add headbands and clips to give my hairstyle some variety.

I shampoo once a week, deep condition once or twice a week, and co wash every other day. I just pin my hair up and tie it down with a silk scraf. In the morning I take it down and let my hair airdry and clip it up or put it in a ponytail.

Either a airdrying rollersetting or phonytails for the winter. I may get my hair braided at some time this winter. Also as stated above greasing my scalp is a must. I also will wash my hair twice a week or as needed.
