i have been wearing wigs and hair pieces non stop since april in an attempt to give my hair a rest and protect from the elements. after being tired of the wigs(it literally feels like a hat on my head) and encourgement from my S/O, i've decided to wear my hair and wear it out curly.

i am nervous as heck cause i've been hiding my hair so long i forget what its like to wear it places, let alone without some fake hair

i put some miss jessie's in my hair and it looks ok. it hasn't shrunk up near my hear like it usually does but my hair has expanded "outward" which is ok i guess. my s/o loves it and thinks my hair is pretty.

has everyone had this problem before? any words of encourgement?

it's normal to be nervous since you've been covering it up all those months but you'll be fine. I'm sure your S/O wouldn't mislead you.

When my hair looks jacked up my S/O won't let me leave the house....he'd laugh at me so much

So I'm sure your hair looks fine

post a pic too

Go for it! My hubby teased me so bad at first...he did not like my TWA. Now after two braid styles..I am loving my hair in twists. I rocked my new afro for a couple of days and people were loving it. They kept calling me Pam Grier..from the movie Coffy. So go for it! It's not what's on your head, but what's in your head that matters!:yep:

thanks everyone. i was trying to get a pic to post but i guess sidekicks don't have great cameras. i am gonna try again tomorrow. another thing i get nervous about is the white women at my job who have a strange facination with black hair. they think that if you have long hair or if you change your hair style its fake and then they get to touching your hair. :nono:

:nono: well i def picked the wrong day to try this.

i took my hair down at work to ensure that it wouldn't get messed up/frizzed out here and the humidity from all the rain basically expanded outward and shrunk upward my hair like a halo around my head :ohwell:

i have the stuff in my bag and i guess i could get to touching it up but i am too embarrassed to leave my desk to find an empty bathroom to work on my hair....:lachen:

i have a elastic band and tied my hair back but i am still like wth was i thinking.

got a scarf/headband and gel and some water? how about some bobbypins or clickclacks?

can you flat twist or cornrow? you can make a couple big french braids, one on each side of your head.

finger coils work great in a pinch too (use your headband or pin up the front then coil up what's left) and will stay all day or try coiling up the ends of your hair.

i have a headband and a scarf. i was thinking of re wetting my hair and putting the head band on. my hair looks great when its wet. when its dry it doesn't look so good (well today it doesn't)

thanks for the suggestion

ok good use one those. your scarf, if you use as a headband will cover more of your hair (if you're feeling really uncomfortable) rewet your hair and form coils throughout the loose hair with your fingers.

do you know how? if not, just take the wet hair pieces and twirl them around your finger then let it loose - don't pull the hair when you take it off your finger.

depending on the products you already have inyour hair, the water should reactivate it.
