Would it be ok to add honey?

I was thinking of putting some oil and honey in the shea moisture deep masque and using it as a leave in since it sucks as a deep masque. Can I do it being that honey lightens your hair? I'm thinking its ok because it's natural though....

There is a whole thread about adding honey to conditioners...I don't know the exact name but I'm sure if did a quick search you'd find it. :)

I would ask if you've used honey before and experienced lightening effects. I've never experienced honey lightening, personally. Its my understanding that you'd have to use a considerable amount of honey over a period of time and allow it to oxidize on your hair... Is lightening of your hair something you're averse to?
Whenever adding anything to commercial mixes, it's best to do single uses (or small quantities) at a time as adding things to a large amount can cause unexpected denaturing, as someone else mentioned. I've seen where adding things to jars of product has led to unusability.
I personally love the SM Deep Mask (yellow label). But for other conditioners or DCs I didn't like so much, I've had wonderful experiences. I've added: honey, Mayo, yogurt, eggs, various oils, hibiscus powder, and too many other things to count. I've not had a bad experience mixing things in my DCs. But to be fair, I've never mixed in something to a commercial product that I hadn't already used by itself and liked.
Hope this helps.

Shea moisture deep masque + honey as a leave-in sounds like a recipe for a lot of gross build-up in the long run. I haven't tried the shea moisture line since it first came out but I do remember the shea moisture deep masque having really thick and dry texture in the jar. Have they improved the formula since then?

I find Shea Moisture to be heavy and greasy on its on. Do you think that will make a bad leave-in for that reason?

I don't know, I have had the mask for i think almost a year and a half, it doesn't do anything to my hair thought i would try to make it better

Though I've heard of people using the shea moisture masque as a leave-in, I would not due to the thick dry nature as NIN4eva mentioned.

I would suggest adding oils and the honey and using it as a DC. I do it all the time with DCs that don't work great on their own. Also be careful in the honey that you choose to use. Not all honey is real honey -- specifically, the $3 bear honey. Google "Honey May Not Be Honey Anymore"

ITA with westNDNbeauty. I would just add the honey and oils to a small amount of the product and use as a DC with heat. You will prob like it better that way. I only use raw honey and mix in my DCs all the time. I have used the SM with and w/o heat. It conditions better with the heat on damp hair and I found that you dont need much to do the job
