But this works!!!!!!!
So, ok here it goes anyway. Dont laugh either! hehe, Cause Remember this,
I was doing CW's (Conditioner washes) long long before it was all the
buzz on the internet or I even had a name for it. How I happened upon
CW's (Scene) 13 or so years ago I'm in the shower with my boyfriend at
the time, I had just taken my braids out (was transitioning and didnt
even know the name for that either) I had a bottle of conditioner in
there...I looked at him and held up the bottle and asked "do you think
this will get my hair clean?" him: thoughtfull look...."yes" So I used
it and he rinsed and did my hair for me, awwww ok *slap myself back to
reality here real quick* lol my hair did get clean and I did that ever
since, whenever I didnt feel like the shampoo wash.....because I had
also realized CW was much less drying by then. years into the future
folks are talking about this technique all across the internet and
have a name for it. So hear me out now ....lol

Stage is set. Today my hair is healthy and long and I do minimal with
it. Well today I wanted to wash my hair but when I went to get shampoo
there were about 5 bottles with just a little tiny bit in them. I was
mad ya'll. At what I dont know....but I was and didnt feel like
hasseling with mixing them or getting a little here and there out of
each bottle to wash my hair. And after that I didnt even feel like
doing a conditioner wash. So I was like screw it. My hair had some
product build up....so I grabbed a bottle of oil , Macadamia Nut oil,
(But any oil will do, light colored would be best I presume) I leaned my ass , I mean head over the tub and
poured it all over my head....soaked it in, rubbed it around my scalp
( you know like you would rub shampoo or conditioner in for your CW's)
Then worked it all through.....we are talking ALOT Of oil here...its
already dripping like crazy. I work it through, then SQUEEZE ,
SQUEEZE, SQUEEEEEZE......AND SQUEEZE some more!!! till all the oil
SQUEEEZED out , at least any dripping oil. all the dirt and product
came out with it. The scratch test (yeah the scratch test) if you got
nails, scratch your scalp....lightly......only clean oil under your
nails. So whats this gonna be called? I presume the Oil wash? lol I
have done this before with wet leave in products .....soaked and
worked through and squeezed AND SQUEEZED, when I wanted a quick rinse,
wash , touch up , referesher, get rid of product build up right quick
type of thing....its always worked......now so did the oil....I kid
you not!

disclaimer.....this is not to replace washing totally.....but its
totally suituable for a quick in between fixer uper! Try it if you
dont believe me. I aint gonna act like its hassle free , shooot all
that dripping and squeezing! Its Just that its a whole lot faster than an actual shampoo or CW any day!. Just sharing......this might not be for everyone....but it
surely works for me! It felt great!

These pics are right after the "oil rinse" and my hair feels wonderfull.
Good enough fah me!!!!!!!!!

use this information mixed with your own common sense and knowing your
own hair and scalp....you know what works for others .....well you
know the rest. This really worked well for me though. I'm happy with it! I hope someone else finds this 'lazy' way usefull in some way as well lol

I hope everyone is doing well. Miss U all lots!!! Happy July4th!

Love and blessings

Iris

...uh...I dont' know big sis, dont' think I had handle all that oil...oiling hair can be such and pain and rinsing it out can be a BIGGER pain. My wet hair doesn't like oil any how...

Thanks :)
Yeah, it was even my '1 month natural anniversary' yesterday and I forgot
(should really get around to updating my website!)

I believe you. I have heard that putting oil in your hair before you shampoo actually breaks up all the gunk that is in it. I also heard that the oil breaks down the molecular structure of any cones in your hair to help them come out easier. However with that said, most people then actually do a shampoo afterwards to get the oil out. i would look like a duck caught in an oil spill if i didnt shampoo but i do think this method does some good.

 Yes! That is very cute!!! :yep:

Returning the thread!

Thanks VWVixxen :)

atlien11, that's interesting about the cones. I thought only sulfate shampoos could remove them.
I know hot oil treatments can remove colour from the hair so it can probably remove dirt too.

Although, oily hair is supposed to attract dirt though isn't it? So like Irresistible said, I don't think it should replace washing completely.

Yeah, I have a friend that is a polymer and fiber engineer. She has a wealth of knowledge about the chemicals that are in products and sorts. She says that its the oil that breaks down the silicone structure and the shampoo that washes it out. Something along the lines of dishwashing liquid in a greasy pan...not sure if thats a good analogy but it makes sense i guess. :)

Hmmm..... Well, I guess if it worked for you then it works, though I don't see how. I'm no Bill Nuy the Science Guy, but IIRC cleaning something works b/c the soap or whatever, binds to the dirt, and then soap+dirt combo dissolves in water and rinses away. Oil+hair sebum--ok, that will bind, but oil+dirt? Does that bind? And even if it does, when it comes to rinsing, it's not going to dissolve. But again, it worked for you--passed the scratch test and all, so guess it works!:)

This makes sense to me, only because of a recent incident. I ironed my hair last week and used heat protectants and serums to combat the humidity. My head was a hill of silicone. Because hair started to feel loaded and lifeless, I slathered on some MTG and ORS carrot oil cream. My hair bounced and swung unbelievably. Although this wasn't a wash, I can now understand why the oil revived my hair.

Now I'm going to try the oil wash. This will be a perfect opportunity since I didn't poo this weekend.

I suppose that's when you scratch your scalp to see if there's still any dirt or product buildup left...
Interesting, thank you for clearing that up. I was going to ask if you do the scratch test on wet hair or after its dry but i guess its all the same.

The oil wash makes perfect sense to me. I was using olive oil for a while to wash my face and I was amazed to find that the oil removed my mascara and eyeliner better than the soap I was using at the time. It was like the mascara just dissolved or something.

I use lots of conditioners in my hair, in fact other than oil that is all I use in my hair. I don't shampoo my hair ever, I only CW. With all that I have never had a problem with build up and I think that has a lot to do with the amount of oil that I use in my hair, both in my conditioners and applied directly. So I can see how this would work.

Iris, girl gosh dang it!!! LOL were you in my head or what! I can't Co-wash and don't like washing too often (time constraints) and was wondering what I could do to help my grass! Thanks so much! Now do you rinse or no? I'm imagining I'd leave oil all over the place. LMAO flashback to the juicy curl days. :lachen:

Thanks for telling us about this. I love the oil cleansing method for my face (I never would have dreamed THAT would work so good and keep my skin clear!). So, I can definitely believe it could work on the hair. Now, on my hair, I don't know 'cause my hair dislikes oil rather intensely. But I will give it a try. :)

Hey IRIS good to see you here again, this idea sounds "crazy" but it's not, just like CW, and MTG sounded crazy before this could be another big idea. Oil washes.
Well I'm not about to say no to a new idea from from IRIS, I'll give it a try once and see if it works for me.

Cool, this probably works really well.

I know that a few women on this site use the EVOO method to cleanse their face, and it removes dirt and helps to rejuvenate the skin.

I might try this when I take my twists down. Or maybe, can I do it while the twists are in my hair?

I'll report back when I' done.

Hi Irrestible -- You hair is gorgeous!

Hey, did you know Essence Magazine had an article about conditioner washes in 1991 (about 15 years ago).

I was in college at the time and read an article entitled something like Black Hair Myths. It changed the way I did my hair. I credit Essence for the first hair growth I expereinced (that my be the only beneficial article I've ever read in that mag  )

They talked about it was myth that blacks couldn't rinse their hair daily ...they said not to shampoo but use conditioner (they didn't call them CWs, though). They also had stuff about deep conditioning, trimming, etc.

Anyway, I started heading to the shower each morning just like the "other" girls on my floor with my conditioner in hand. My mom was telling my aunt and cousin that I wash my hair everyday. They acted like I was crazy. But my hair grew from a short feathered cut to shoulder length.

It's hard to believe any mainstream black magazine would actually write the truth about hair since they are largely responsible for the bad practices, especially the black hair mags.

Perhaps others remember this myth list as well.

Anyway, back to the oil washing. Oil does not like me ...so I'm only giving this one shot. :p . While I've used evoo on my face since december as the only cleansing agent, whenever I prepoo with a hot oil treatment I always need shampoo to rid myself of residue ... But I will try your wash tonight.

No, I don't think you're crazy. On another board some are oil only and some WATER only:eek: I've thought about using coconut oil to try this technique, just haven't gotten up the courage yet!

I use evoo to wash my face also. It is the best for removing eye make-up.

OT,ITA, Someone at essence is on the ball (it may be coming from or through Susan Taylor) They released a beauty basics book last year.I think it runs about $25 but I got the $10.99 special edition mag. copy last dec. It talks about steaming, rollersetting, deep condtioning, protecting relaxed hair, going natural, skincare, makeup etc. Some of the things discussed on hairboards. It also talks about hydrating the hair with oils. Jada is on the copy of my issue.

Thank you girl!

Girl I didnt know about that article, your bursted my bubble I thought I might be the only one that did CW's back then hahaha.

I see the spin off thread to this on water....I'm gonna head over there after I finish here hehe

ok if you do this......remember to keep your head leaned over the tub (u gotta have a good back for this and I dont lol) pour PLENTY over your head work it in like shampooo or somethin and squeeze like a mutha! and squeeze some more! then have u a towel ready, flip back over when you finally see little to no dripping from your squeezes, then comb through, the comb just gluides through like ahhhhh, well close lol, then get it all combed through and gathered together and guess what? lean ova the sink or tub and give one more wring out squeeze....then style. I swear the remaining oil soaks up by the next day. over night I slept with nothin in my hair but that braid and just kept the towel around my neck for a little while for the remaining drippage.....now its just soft! not oily

Its gonnna feel crazy at first.....lol but stick it out and you will see. I used the macadamia nut and a paper towel to clean my face after....lovely *smiles*

My best friend said in Kenya they did this all the time. She had beautiful long natural hair when she came here. She let a woman w/ no hair tell her she needed to relax (new growth and length) every 6 weeks. Needless to say her hair is only about an 1 inch long now. :( But that's another story.

I've never tried it personally, but it does seem a good way to keep my hard water off my hair a little more.

Hi Iris:wave: Your hair is looking lovely as usual. Thanks for the tip, I just might try this.
