That was just "alright" to me.

Hair has to be much longer than that to impress me. I've had hair longer than that when I was relaxed.

She big chopped in 06 just like me! Thanks for posting OP, I loved her hair, it's thick and healthy.

Man THAT WAS FLY!!! Not just the length but the health. My hair has been that length as a kid but you can see not only is her hair thick but it's healthy.

I think her hair is more than alright. It's thick, long, with nice ends. Not everyone has a "straight" journey. I know for me I BC'd in 2004, yet between terrible practices and MAJOR heat damage I had ups and downs. :yep:

I think b/n LHCF, our own successful hair journeys and/or having long haired family members our perception is skewed. Most BW I know IRL are in the SL family.

Dang we got a tough crowd up in here tonight. People gotta be cousin it status to get a little love in here. Sheesh.

Yeah it is definitely a tough crowd lol. I can appreciate a HHJ where the results are thick, lush healthy hair no matter the length. And even still her hair has grown to beautiful length. :)

personally i judge how much length i should expect from my hair (with proper care and manipulation) from people's journeys. So far it seems that APL happens after 2 years with most and bsl, mbl and beyond happen in the years to come. So to see someone that has been growing natural hair for 5 years just be APL is a little...disappointing. Because in my head im thinking "daaaaang i gotta wait 5 years just to be APL?" its a lil depressing.

But maybe her goals aren't focused on length, she's doing a great job at keeping it healthy

Her hair is full and thick. But we're talking 5 YEARS people! 5 loooonnnggg yyyeeeaaarrrrsss only to get a little past APL!

This makes me feel better. I'm only a year since BC and not APL yet. I was feeling bummed.

I doubt I will ever want WL hair. I would love to have hair this lady's length. So I'd probably cut mine to keep it there.

Like someone said everyone doesn't have a straight journey. I don't know anyone who had a journey for 5 years without some sort of setback. Also everyone's hair doesn't grow the normal some are slow growers. Not to mention all her hair looks that length not like she just barely made it or sides are way shorter than the back. So to me that takes work but we all have opinions that's what makes life great.

This is how I feel sometimes...especially when I see someone who has been on the HHG as long as i have, but is way ahead of me. My goal is bra strap...well, maybe a little lower than bra strap.

I agree with expecting more length for 5 years. Her hair does look really good and healthy, but I was expecting - I calculated that I'd be APL this year only one year post relaxer... We'll see. I know everyone's hair is different and there are other factors to length retention other than just how much your hair is supposed to grow in x amount of time. Plus she's obviously going for an overall healthy look, she may have sacrificed length at some point(s) for that. Like someone already mentioned, her hair is all one length. I'd have to cut my hair to chin length if I wanted it all even right now.

You're on this forum which I can say means you're probably in a better position than folks like me who didn't find this forum until i was almost 5 years in on my journey (and still only SL). Don't use her as an indication of your progress b/c there are others who illustrate how consistent care leads to consistent retention. I remember after watching Kimmytube's journey thinking that, 'dang she'd been natural since 1999' but she had hair drama and didn't know what she was doing. Once she got it, well...the rest is history

Yep that's part of my point. I've been growing for about 7 years BUT only been on my journey for 2 gaining knowledge and length. So I'm dancing around apl because those yrs of inconsistency and ignorance

APL at only 1 year post BC is superhuman IMO. That's like 10 inches per year- which is nearly an inch a month. Does anyone's hair grow that fast?

I think her hair looked thick and healthy to me. Her ends looks good, and by the look in the video, she goes to a beautician regularly, so i'm guessing she gets trims regularly as well (which, in hands of some stylist will slow appearance of growth as an "inch" or"1/4" inch is sometimes subjective). Also, i paused at 2:37 and it looked as though she had colored it in the side by side, so maybe she had damage along the way. Even still, i think she's doing good for herself.
