Hi ladies , when joining lhcf I tried the protective styling method of bunning for faster growth. But what I have come to learn is that bunning doesnt work that well for meand that my hair grows much faster using more stretched styles such as braid outs. am I the only one who has found that a method that everyone else uses does not work for you ? Please list your experiences below .

Yes! Bunning was not my friend -- I ended up with severe breakage in patches through the center of the back of my head and along my nape area. Now that my hair is a bit longer, I find that a loose reverse chignon (I gather the hair as if to make a ponytail, twist it loosely once, bring it up and secure it with one of these: http://www.goody.com/#/grid/ouchless_flex/products/comfort-flex_small_up-do_barrette) is the best protective style for me. :yep:

using growth aids. they just give me headaches. i do scalp massages with oils though.

also i think vitamins have been a wolf in sheeps clothing for me. i gained some weight from taking them have not been able to get it off. i cant even really explain it...

Constant co-washing dries out my fine strands something fierce so I had to let that go.

Other that I have developed a pretty good relationship with my hair and avoid most bandwaggons... I did try the Tangle Teazer tho :nono: fortunately I knew after a single use that it would be deadly to my hair.

This sounds really cute !! maybe I can try it !

I found that anything besides deep conditioning once a week was too much for me and my hair. I tried CWs but in all honesty I felt like a two year old playing in my hair with my mama's conditioner. It was doing nothing but adding manipulation. I also had to quit moisturizing and sealing daily. I got on the forums and just thought this was something you should do. Most nights I would just be adding product on top of product on hair that was not even dry/thirsty. And I would ALWAYS have those little tiny pieces of hair everywhere. More unnecessary manipulation. Glad to see braid outs work for you because they sure don't work for me. :/

Things that do not work for me:
Washing my hair often
Co-washing
Wash n go
Moisturizing often
Airdrying

My methods:
Infrequent Washing
Using heat
Using oil and/or grease
Straightened or stretched out hair styles

When I was relaxed, keeping my hair in buns created breakage for me. Leaving my hair out and alone kept it long and healthy.

Natural, water based moisturizers work. Butters and oils leave my hair hard and crunchy.

I have NEVER used protective styling because: it's too much work and it doesn't allow me to ENJOY my hair. That's my whole point of putting so much effort into finding the right products, finding a good detangler etc. I wanna enjoy it and I do. I sleep on a satin pillow and never tie it back. I wash every other day and I airdry. I only comb it after I wash it with conditioner in it. I use moisturizing products that usually do NOT contain cones or mineral oil and I do a protein treatment every other week using Nexxus Emergencee. I have never encountered problems since I have found the right regimen for my hair. My only problem is, people wanna touch and I'm cool if you ask but please just don't put your hand in my hair!!!

cowashing

washing more than once a week

sulfate free shampoo

daily moisturizing

no shampoo

olive oil

coconut oil

shea butter

henna/indigo (loved the color but my hair is healthier without it, I cut most of my henna'ed hair off, I have about 3 inches left to go)

5 + step wash routine (pre-poo, clarify, shampoo, deep condition, instant condition, acv rinse/porosity control in one session)

avoiding silicone (I avoid them in my shampoo/conditioners but I use them in my styling products)

Loves Harmony

I shampoo my hair once a month with Mane N Tail Shampoo.
I sometimes condition my hair with Aussie Moist Conditioner.
I blowdry my hair with either Mane N Tail Conditioner or LottaBody Setting Lotion (only used once but plan on trying it again).
I flat iron my hair in sections with Ultra Sheen Creme Satin Pres. If I use setting lotion to blowdry with, I don't have to use the creme satin pres.
At night, I apply Hot Six Oil sparingly and put my hair in a loose bun on top of my head, put on a scarf, and go to sleep.
In the morning, I just take off the scarf and take my hair out of the bun, then fluff with my fingers and go.
