Sally Beauty has no shame! Same price, color and type packaging, and everything. The only difference is the Sally/Silk Element's version is 12 oz instead of 16 oz.

If anything sells more than 100 units, they have their chemist on job, knocking stuff off. I wonder how much this cannibalizes the sales of the lucky product that's being knocked off?

As I Am Coconut CoWash

They both have the same co-surfacants cetrimonium and stearlkonium chloride for cleansing agents. However, Sally's added amodimethicone and a bunch of other mess. :ohwell:

I hope people don't think they're getting the same thing!

Wait the knock off is smaller with same price?

Well damn. They just got finish going through a lawsuit with Mixed Chicks:

mixed_silk_mixed_chicks.jpg

Mixed chicks won the suit. Sally's really don;t care who they copy off of huh?

BTW I have some of that Sally's Mixed Silk leave in. If anyone wants it. Pm me. I've used both Mixed chicks Leave in and Mixed silk leave which resulted in sticky hair and attracting lint which lead to tangles :censored:

:yep:

Ladies, that are not paying attention will probably buy it and not pay attention to the fact that it's missing 4 oz. Especially, if they're having a sale on Silk Elements.

Daaang glad I always compare unit price. :yep:

Wow they need to stop, don't they sell As I Am, too? Messy.

Isn't amodimethicone the only water soluble cone so it's not bad as other cones?

Lilmama1011, it's my understanding that it's partially water soluble. PEG-Dimethicone and Dimethiconol are water soluble.

http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlr...cone-and-other-amine-functionalized-silicones

Amodimethicone - water-insoluble when unaccompanied by Tricedeth-12 and Centrimonium Chloride

Amodimethicone and Trideceth-12 and Cetrimonium Chloride - water-soluble when these three ingredients are present within the same formula

I was just thinking a couple days ago about the asian coconut ingredients. Listed is Peg 40 castor oil, the oxide derivative of castor oil. It is made by reacting castor oil with ethylene dioxide. However, there may be reaction sideproducts/excess reagents in the products that use Peg40 castor oil. I don't think it's very natural at all. Great slip but my scalp was not happy every time I used it. I would be itching like I was going crazy!! :(

Sally is at it once again..What product is next.

Happy Hair Growing!

If they're going to knock it off it should at least be cheaper.

Sent from my iPhone using LHCF

I went in there yesterday for Plastic Caps and also ended up with a 'bootleg' JBCO. Jamaican & Mango (Brand) Pure Black Castor Oil. $4.99 for 4 ounces = Red Flag #1:lol:

So, after being in this thread I just went & pulled my little $4.99 JBCO wannabe.:look:

Castor Oil, Soybean Oil, Carrot Oil and another kind of Oil but it was writing over it.

So for folks that don't mind the 'Knock Offs' They also had it one with Lavender and one with Rosemary.:yep:

I got the Original of their original.

I don't think I'll be shopping at Sally's anymore. At least give a bigger bank for the buck!

Yeah I dont go in there too much anymore. I like to get their color app bottles for my oils and such. Also, if I want some PM GVP products I can go there. I can get plastic caps from Walmart and lots of other stuff too

Mixed Chicks must have won a big payoff from that lawsuit. I see they now have ads on tv!! Im glad for MC

There is a big difference with this product. It SUCKS....
I like As I Am a lot and it doesn't foam, It is very conditioning and It melts tangles.

Naturally Silk is harsh on my hair and it suds up and creates tangles galore in my hair. I HATE IT! I have 3 tubs of it and two are going back ASAP. I refuse to take back used items, but hey that is just me!

I also don't see it as a knock off, I see it more as an attempt for Silk Elements to join in the Natural hair profits.

I have two or three tubs of the deep nourishing conditioner from a "sale" they were having once. Its not that great at all. It says it replenishes moisture...meh...its just ok. I rarely use it. I would have taken it back but I barely paid 3.99 for each tub so Im stuck with it. I sometimes mix it with my Ayurvedic powders to do a gloss

I just bought some of the JBCO knock off and haven't tried it yet. Have you used yours?

I have this foaming shampoo. I Didn't know it was a knockoff, I've used it twice so far and each time it dried my hair out something horrible! Back it goes!

myronnie, I learn something new everyday. Due to your reply I researched PEG 40 a lil' bit. Good to know it's also a surfactant, but alarming that it may have a carcinogen it it.

I emailed Dr. Syed at cs.asiamnaturally.com to see whether the 1,4 dioxane was removed or not. Hopefully, his team replies, before the buy 2, get one free sale is over at Sally's for this product.

Good article on PEG-40 Castor Oil

JJamiah and Healthb4Length, thank you for the reviews! Now, hopefully other's will not get bamboozled when Sally's has one their $3.99 sales on Silk Elements that mshoneyfly mentioned.

I've been going to Sallys more since they started carrying more curly/natural hair brands last year (even before Target finally did). I thought they learned their lesson from what happened with Mixed Chicks (not a fan of their brand(ing)) but I did want MC to kick SB behind.

Is As I Am black owned? If so, I hope they'll sue too. LOL

greenandchic, As I Am is owned by Dr. Ali Syed. I believe he's Indian. He also owns Avalon Industries, Inc., which makes Affirm and KeraCare products.

I wonder what made him get into afro-textured hair care? He's done tons of research etc., regarding our hair.

Depends on where he was born and raised. Guanese Indian? or maybe one of the many inidans in Africa esp in Nambia and such

IDareT'sHair, they're saving you the hassle of cuttin' it due to being too thick,. So, you can't return it, saying it's too thick and sticky.

MileHighDiva

Right.

What I will do...:look: is add it to my Extra Dark JBCO ad Haitian Black CO to make it stretch.

I only bought x1 bottle of this.

So I'll do 1/2 & 1/2 & finish it up.

Imma need to rethink spending my money at Sally's lol, but seriously. It's one thing to try to duplicate a product, but to bite off of the packaging as well is beyond pushing it. They are really trying to capitalize off of confused consumers. How many times have they done this?

@mz.rae

I have not. I just picked it up yesterday.

I could not walk out with just Plastic Caps and it was $4.99 so I snatched it up too.:look:

I'll probably either add it to my JBCO or Haitian CR or......Use it as a Pre-Rx.

If you get to it before I do...lemme know what you think.:yep:

ETA: Speaking of Package copying....it even comes in Glass Bottles.

I actually like that Sally's make "knock offs"...guess I'm in the minority...
