Who does this and has good length retention? I'm just talking roots only, not the whole length of the hair.

I have maybe 6 weeks new growth and I went to this new lady yesterday who rollerset me and blew out my roots. She was extremely gentle and I did not have to wince or twist my face in pain even once. I was shocked because when some dominican salons take a dryer to my roots it feels like they are lighting a match to my scalp. The dryer was not set on "hell" and my roots got nicely straight. I think I may start going to her weekly since during the cold months I like to wear more straight hair.

I do this every saturday. I wash, and do a deep condish with Kenachom mixed with Alter Ego Garlic Condish, under my steamer for about 45 minutes, rinse and spray Tresseme Keratin heat protector (love the smell) then set. Im under dryer for a solid hour then i take my round brush and just blow my roots straight using my Twin Turbo dryer. I blow from my roots to like 2 inches down leaving some curls at the ends. My hair is about 1 inch past my bra strap.

Deep condition like a mad woman; like twice a week. And make sure yor hair is moisturized between blowouts. Always. Otherwise your hair will be jacked by December. Otherwise I love DBO

This doesn't really make much sense in my opinion. If the goal is to have straight hair via roller sets why would she wash her hair twice a week?

The roots are the strongest part of your hair OP. It should be fine if the rest is rollerset. BostonMaria transitioned this way.

twice a week will be a problem if I want to make a straight style last a week, but definitely don't want to skimp on the deep conditioning.

SuchaLady Hey thanks for remembering! Yes that's true. I used to lightly flatiron the roots only and my hair would come out really pretty. I was very careful not to damage my new growth.

I don't recommend going to the salon every week to have your hair fried by these stylists. They'll get your hair super sleek and beautiful, but they might damage the new growth.

Yeah I was thinking of going to my local Dominican salon to hv them rollerset and blow my roots occasionally since I'm transitioning but I just don't know how the stylist would react to all my new growth and I don't want to be talked about. Last time I went in (I wash n dc myself a home to avoid tangling at their sink) 5 months post to get a rollerset and blow the stylist was gentle but didn't approve of all my new growth. She told me it would be 'better' when I relax it. When I relaxed and came in for a wash n set she said 'see much better now' - at time I smh and lol but it's really off putting.

thanks, i'm not transitioning though. Just trying to stretch relaxers a bit. Since this lady was so gentle with good results I decided maybe this is something I would do more often.
