Is a curling wand as damaging as a flat iron?

I like the look of a curling wand but want to know if it is as bad as a flat iron on airdried hair

It looks worse to me. The amount of time I've seen ladies leaving their hair wrapped around the wand makes me cringe....especially the ends.

I curl my hair with a flat iron. You could do that. And a wand will not give you the smoothness on air dried hair.
