I somehow got the bright idea to put a texturizer in my hair. I saw a YouTube video of a woman with a texturizer who said she left it on for 4 minutes, didn't smooth it and it just made her curls smoother. So I bought the same kind of texturizer she had, which was a man's comb thru texturizer and I left it on for 3 minutes. I may have smoothed it slightly just while I was applying it. I rinsed it out and the whole bottom half of my hair is bone straight and the top is pretty much the same. The middle is just wavy. It looks like I'm overdue for a touch up. I have no idea what to do. I'm so upset. Im debating whether I should re-chop or if I should just go to the salon for a corrective relaxer and wear it straight for a while. Has this ever happened to anyone else or am I the only moron here? Any advice?

Sorry no advice other than not to do it again. I don't believe texlax is natural anyway.

Yikes,

Sorry I have no advice.

But I will say that's what got me into trouble with my hair. I had almost waist length relaxed hair and I started doing what others were doing with their hair and am still recovering from it today. This was back in 2008/2009 when my problems started.

Stick to what works for you and don't listen to anyone elses' advice.

Aww ,you are not a moron :hug2:

This is a common misconception for new naturals. I myself considered getting a texturized or texture softener because I didn't think it was a relaxer. The truth of the matter is that no matter what they decide to call it, they are all relaxers. They are just marketed a lot of the time as something to "help" natural hair. I wish they'd just be honest and it would save a lot of confusion.

I've met so many naturals that have a texturizer and have no idea that they've relaxed their hair.

That sucks ): Sounds like you're going to have to grow it out or big chop. Do your protein treatments and see what your hair is like, maybe you'll get some of your curl pattern back. This a cautionary tale for all thinking of this, texturizers can be just as potent as relaxers, there's no way to know what'll happen to your hair, everyone's head of hair is different.

I wouldn't chop again after 3 years. I also wouldn't get a corrective relaxer. I'd grow it out slowly in protective styles and cut off an inch or two every few months.

Nope. Don't chop again. I agree with naturalmanenyc, just grow it out. I understand how you feel, though. If it helps, I am growing out mine as well.
I did mines on purpose, so don't beat yourself up. :ohwell:

texturizing/texlaxing is a from of relaxing its just underprocessed. I wouldn't chop again. gradually trim as stated and stay on top of moisture/protein. you can roller set & do twist/braidouts.

Another option is that you could wait the allotted time, reapply to the underprocessed part, and then start a healthy relaxed journey.

Or you could cut the relaxed ends off & do a Hide your hair challenge for 6 to 12 months until you get the length back.

Well. Once you put any kind of chemicals on your hair, texturizer, or whatever..it is no longer natural.:look: The only thing you can do is chop, or transition. Things happen. No one is perfect. I definitely will never go near any chemicals except hair dye. I need these greys gone. I guess I'm not fully natural either  Oh well.

This happened to me. I was natural for 6yrs and my go to hair stylist advised me to get a texturizer to help loosen my curls. She said it wasnt a relaxer & it would be better for my hair. I didnt research it and at the time I believed EVERYTHING a hair stylist would say. The end result was that I really did love being texturized. It loosened my curl pattern w/o causing too much breakage. The only problem is it was never consistent. I had switched to a different hair salon and she kept texturizing too straight & I kept getting burned. So I would have a zillion different hair textures.

But to answer your question, @perfextion. You could do a corrective; but me personally I would wait it out & "overlap" the texturizer on the areas that were underprocessed when it's time for your touch-up. Def check out the relaxed thread. There might be a corrective thread also.

Do not get a corrective relaxer!! I'm a texlaxer and I can tell you that underprocessed hair "thickens" up after a couple weeks.

The hair that you feel is "bone straight" is probably not as straight as you think. Let the hair settle, protective style, and grow it out.

I wore my hair texturized for years and years. I would not attempt a corrective.

If you want to wear it straight, I'd suggest a BKT or alternative like Design Essentials strengthening mousse. I will say, the combo had me bone straight fora good 3 months.

ITA that you should either BKT or press/flat iron it straight in the meantime if your intent was to wear it straight. You can also do braidouts to help create a more uniform texture while you grow it out. Your hair might be a bit more pliable now to allow for either option.
So sorry to hear about that. ((BIG HUG))

I agree with SmileyNy. Don't cut it off and start over or do a corrective relaxer. If I had known what I know now, I NEVER would have EVER big chopped! I would say to baby your hair. This is a perfect time to step it up with your hair care. Make sure you keep the line of demarcation, where your wavy and curly hair meet, strong with protein treatments. Keep your hair well moisturized and protective style. Then every other month, you could trim half an inch of the straight hair off. By Spring time, you won't even be able to tell! Good Luck and hang in there :)

I'd probably slowly cut the straight ends off. Her some French braids or big box braids or something protective that you feel pretty with.
