2018 Edition: Healthy/long-haired Ladies, Can I Live Vicariously Through You?

So we used to have a thread here that was called, "Long hair ladies, can I live vicariously through you?" It was a thread where women with long hair shared their experiences and things they liked about it. The thread was drool-worthy to say the least. (I recommend everybody read it if you haven't already, lol.)

The last thread started like this: "I have been looking at you long haired ladies fotkis and imagining what life must be like. If you don't mind please share your experiences, and don't worry about sounding arrogant or anything of that sort." (Written by exoticmommie, the thread's founder.)

I want to try doing another one, but to change things up a bit, this time you don't have to have long hair to post. It can be long or healthy, thick, or you love the texture, color, cut, etc. Post about your positive hair experiences, period. This is the place to brag.

Well this is how I feel today: I have very long hair, and it is average thickness stretched and full blown heavy and dense when wet. I am a 4b grazing WL. I find that most people just think my hair is fake . Its like having a real diamond ring that costs a lot, but will always be known as fake so you really cant flaunt it.

My own daughter weave checked me the last time she was home from college and I flat ironed and thought I was wearing tracks!I get accused of wearing a weave or wig all the time even more so now that I only straighten a few times a year.

Really!?! This is shocking to me for a few reasons, namely: being natural is so mainstream and has been for a while, so I would think people would know we can grow long hair especially when its textured like yours (from the few pics I've seen. Emphasizing the word few because you don't post many though I've personally been waiting since I heard you were a long-haired 4b ).

I've never seen kinky weave/wig in real life so I would automatically assume thats yours. But I guess I'm naive because of my complexion. When I was apl, people would ask me what I was mixed with since I have caramel skin, but they never thought my hair was fake. But I guess with darker skinned women they dont even do that. Oh, and btw my hair is very kinky. I don't have type 3 hair or anything. I'm type 4b/4c.

Also, I think it has to do with where you live. Some places have more natural hair women than others.

Not sure if I’m considered having long hair by lhcf standards...I haven’t straightened my hair in awhile, but my best guesstimate is grazing WL. I normally wear my hair in twist which hang a little past Apl on sides and grazing bsl in the back. I often get asked if my twists are real (inquiries on the type of hair I used) or if I’m wearing a twist out, I get asked if it’s crochet.

Personal challenges I have with long hair are:
1. fitting it under a helmet for roller derby
2. It takes about 4.5 hours to twist

However, I wouldn’t change it for the world, and l’m patiently waiting for more growth. What I love most is being able to toss and flip it in the faces of people who doubted my long hair aspirations (I’m a little petty ) Oh, and don’t get me on the dance floor with a twist-out...hair be swinging EVERYWHERE! Lol

My stats: natural, 4b, fine strands, thin/medium density, normal to high porosity

A while back I'd decided to wear my hair out to work for the first time; in a wash-n-go. I'd been there over a year and had only worn protective styles (mostly buns, and pin tucks). When I walked in, I saw their proverbial jaws drop. And my co-workers were like this for the rest of the day:

One of the girls kept saying, "you have, like... Instagram hair!". She was an intern in her very early 20s, so that was meant as a compliment of the highest order.

Yes clear people are constantly amazed at what our hair can do...my co-workers act like I'm a new employee when I go from a bun to a wash n go. One had the nerve last week to ask to touch it, I told Becky yeah no my curls were fragile! I have never understood why anyone let alone a stranger would want to run their fingers in someone else's hair.. it just weirds me out.

Wow thank you!! I am more motivated to post pictures after this post, not that I wasn't really motivated before... I will be getting a new phone that takes better pictures! And I agree with you that It might be where I live or just the frame of mind of a few people that I have encountered. Not everyone has that same thinking. On Friday I am taking a trip to the Verizon store to check out phones. I will have LHCF in mind while picking.. Note: phone must have a camera with a flash this time.

When a woman of a different race has WL and Classic length hair people stop and appreciate it's length and all the hard work and years it took to grow! But us, "oh nooo yours was just bought as Sally's"...EFFORT DISMISSED just like that.

I wont stop bumping this thread until it takes off. Lol. Where are the posts? I know y'all have a lot to say! Where are the long haired and healthy haired ladies?
I love when my sections of hair are the same thickness from roots to tips. And I love playing with my twists that look all juicy and shiny and feel smooth.
I also love when my hair grazes my lower back, and brushing it back with my fingers and over my shoulders.
In my dreams.

I’ve always had very thick hair type 3C/4a. I got the crown of my natural hair dyed bleach blonde 4 years ago. Only the crown though. I kept it like that for a year and absolutely loved it! I got so much attention because of it. I got stopped constantly by fellow naturals who wanted to talk hair. Heck one time I was running back to my car so I could refill my parking meter before it ran out. Unfortunately for me on my way there another natural saw me with a twistout (the one in my avatar) and asked for advice. I got so distracted cuz I love talking about hair care (and helping a fellow sister) that I got a ticket as a result. *slaps forehead*

Another time I was leaving the salon after getting my blonde hair touched up and flat ironed. I was in my car about to pull out into traffic when a man ran up to me and shouted: “I just wanted to tell you you’re hot and I love your hair! That’s all.” I was grinning from ear to ear for the rest of the day. Nowadays I wear my hair in a bun 100% of the time. I get compliments from men about how they like my natural hair and how it suits me. I’m like: my waves must be popping!

I love how my hair looks like stacks of cotton candy while wearing an updo. It's juiciness and fluffiness is undeniable.

I love how my hair is long enough that I can see and hold my ends to pick out a Sing Stand Knot with a needle.

I imagine showering with my future DH and him rinsing my TBL kinky hair, which in its coily state hangs all down and around my shoulder blades like a succulent cloud with a breath taken look on his face.

Despite the fact that I have to wash in sections. Lol. Maybe just occasionally. For bae!

And I imagine wearing my hair in two loooonggg thick ass braids, and just reapplying whipped Shea butter to my hair at night before rebraiding (I blame Chicoro!!). I can take them out for a braid out the next day and then just put them back in, or wear them.

Oh and having my children want hair as long as mommy
