Wow! I am so glad I was not raised with the good hair vs. bad hair thing. I wish we could all wake up tomorrow and have it erased from our psyche but I guess that's fantasy.
I felt so sorry for that 3 year old whose mother perms her hair. That poor girl was crying and it made me tear up to watch it.
The other little girl with the Hannah Montana wig also touched my heart b/c she thinks she has bad hair and wants her hair like Hannah Montana. What are people doing to their kids?
But even the women kind of broke my heart b/c I felt their was a lot of ignorance going on. When the one girl said something to the effect of doing relaxers b/c she wants the "white girl flow" I was like
Admittedly, I used to be one of those people that thought there was no way I could manage my natural hair but a little education will change a person.
And the girl who decided to give natural a try, I thought her hair was cute.

My mother cut it all off an I wore braids for a year it all grew back but that was because my mother took the time to take care of it! Im not too sure she knew what she was doing but she did wash it and braid it weekly when I was younger. It was never a good/bad hair talk in my house it more of your hair is damaged and you need to start fresh! Hopefully someone will be able to talk some sense into these parents and they will teach their children to be proud of what they have!

You were lucky to have a mom who instilled those things in you. It's a shame that more children aren't taught to love their natural hair (I know I wasn't) and aren't introduced to that good hair bad hair mentality. I didn't get it as bad as some other people - I don't remember my mother ever complaining about my hair or telling me that it was bad or nappy but I did get my hair relaxed at maybe 5 or 6. But my hair was always done (usually by a stylist) and in cute age appropriate styles. It grew and it was healthy (even though it is fine/thin by nature). My mom took good care of it. A lot of these moms now have no clue what to do because they didn't have that knowledge passed down. You know how most people say their hair was healthy until they started doing it themselves (usually as a teenager)? You don't know what you're doing or do whatever everybody else is doing to get the cutest/hottest style of the moment that usually involved something damaging. Some people stick with those same bad practices and then their hair goes down the tubes for eternity.
