BUT......he is NOT obligated to cut or update ......it's not a part of the challenge.....only starting pics, and the finale, to see where we grew to

the rest of it will be inspiration and support and just forum banter for us TBL challengers.. I imagine

Good luck ladies...just stopping by drooling & dreaming...I'd have to get at least 6" growth to graze TBL stretched by the end of the year.
 
I think I have (had?) some scraggly ends at tailbone, but I would like to have full tailbone, instead of some pieces at waist and hip. My hair barely gained any length in 2009, so I don't know how realistic it is. I don't think I have much hope for my former bangs though, since they are only at APL; with luck maybe they can get to midback. This was my last straightened picture, but I trimmed a few of the longest bits last weekend.

Of course, the length doesn't really matter, because it's still barely APL curly when fully dry, :lol:.

Tailbone is tailbone... I love your hair.....:grin:..Hopefully that will all of us soon..Then we will have to move to a Classic length challenge...:yep:

I want to join!! I don't know if I'll get there but I want to grow all I can in 2010. I am MBL right now and I grow pretty fast.

You ladies will inspire me not to cut or chop anything off in the spring :)

I would like to join. I'm about an inch away from HL, so hopefully I will be able to make TBL by the end of the year.

So I can't join you all in my quest for full tailbone? Do I have to go make a classic length challenge by my lonesome self? :lol:

ETA - You know how people are around here about "thin" "see-through" "scraggly" ends; it's enough to make a person paranoid. :lol:

I know just what your talking about, on both counts:grin:

I was afraid of what my ends would look like after not straitening for a year, I would not have claimed hip without it being full, but I'm looking at your hair and I suppose it could be fuller at the ends if you think so, but it looks pretty full to me girl.

and I thought I might be doing this TBL challenge all by my lonesome at first.....whew

well I will put you in because you know your hair and if you say it can be fuller than it is at that length, then I say go for it. although I also say it's already full .........hehe

I'll just stay here with you all and see if my shorter hairs can catch up and thicken my ends. Don't want to put my ends through too much scrutiny. ;) :lol:
 
As part of my strategy for growing longer and healthier hair, I'm going to stop using "traditional" shampoos and cleanse my hair weekly with Indian powders - Neem, Aritha, Amla, Shikakai. I also have some shampoo bars I'll try at some point.

I'm getting rid of all my shampoos except my CON - I'll use it diluted if my hair really needs it.

I used Shikakai powder for the 1st time tonight so the jury is still out. It was a bit hard to wash out but we'll see how my hair feels in the morning.
 
Biancaelyse please let us know how the Shikakai worked for you, I'm interested in trying some of these powders as well.
 
biancaelyse- how do you use shampoo bars? i've become more and more interested in these. but all the videos i've seen on you tube on how to use it have been by, well, white folk. and their method to me seems like it would just knot up and tangle the mess out of my hair. like they plop the bar on their heads and start going around in big circles and gathering up all their hair and.... well it looks like my hair would be mad at me if i tried it.

how do you do it?

The Shikakai powder cleaned my hair well without it feeling stripped. It is a messy process, like doing henna so I'd recommend using an applicator bottle to apply it. I did mine in a bowl and slowly poured it onto my head scalp first and then working it down the length of my hair while in the shower. I had already wet my hair. I let it sit on my hair for five minutes and then rinsed it out. As I mentioned before, it was grainy and took a long time to rinse it out. I could still feel some in there when I conditioned my hair but I managed to get it all out before drying.

Please note that I pre-oiled my hair and scalp thoroughly the night before with coconut oil. This is another tip from the Indian ladies - they usually pre-oil before washing their hair.

My hair feels softer and more moisturized than usual, especially on the ends. I'd do it again but it may be too much work for some.

There is a 5 page thread on shampoo bars. The consensus is that you wet your hair, lather the bar in your hands and then smooth the lather into your scalp, letting the suds work their way down into the length of your hair. Do not rub the bar into your hair or pile your hair atop your head. The first will cause too much dryness and the second will cause tangling. Also only shampoo once because the 2nd poo will likely overdry your hair.

Most of the ladies seem to like the Swastik Shikakai Shampoo bar sold in many Indian grocery stores for around $1 or one of the Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars available online, Dr. Bronners soap bars found in the health food store or the Burt's Bees Baby Shampoo Bar found in any CVS, Walgreen's etc.

The Shampoo thread is really interesting and I'd recommend reading it since so many ladies posted their experiences and tips. I have not tried my bars yet but I'll definitely incorporate their input when I do

I'm willing to give it a shot. I've been using CV bars on my face for several months and they are super gentle and non drying - I'd say it's one of the better cleansers out there. I have a sample of the CV Marsh Mallow and Babasu Shampoo Bar and I'm sure it won't be too drying as long as I lather it in my hands 1st and only shampoo once.

I also have a couple of the Swastik Shikakai Body and Hair bars. If it's too drying for me, I'll pass it on to DH because he loves using bar soap.

I really like the prepoo oiling, especially on my ends since they are the driest and most fragile part of my hair.

I have used the powders in the past. Can't say I can make heads or tails of the results, but I don't like the mess, so I have a ton of unused powders..:ohwell:

Who knows, I may try again since I really need to use up some stuff. I will be watching for your review.
