oh yes I always oil first. i was using shik and amla candy c's way as a tea..........
Yeah the paste can be a bit clumpy, maybe you can play with by adding a tad bit more water, I have never tried the runny paste idea, but it sounds pretty good, use an applicator bottle maybe to keep it from dripping??? I like the paste until I'm more than 3wks. post, after that it becomes too hard to rinse, so it's tea after that point, or in my cond. as a cowash, Also when I use the shikakai, amla, neem mixture, I always follow up with a dc that contains amla, brahmi, & bhringraj. These powders are soooo moisturizing my hair feels soft as butter afterwards.  I co wash every 3 days and refresh my curls with water. The product doesn't do well with oils.
