Banding is my preferred method. I split my hair into hemispheres and use 3 bands/side. I put a magnetic roller w/ cover on the ends, put a scarf on, and let it dry. The ends dry smooth and the length is reasonably stretched while the roots are flat.Works for me.
I also do the scarf method on occasion. The ponytail rollerset works too depending on the intended style.
I dry my hair in a tshirt. I use to air dry my hair and always found my hair was pretty hard after it dried. So now wrap my hair in a tshirt (head wrap style) until my hair is about 90% dry ( a little damp). My hair is soooooooo much softer after doing this.

-bantu knots (i just do two high pigtails)
