Hey, I have less than an inch of hair, lol, but I'm considering henna and indigo for my gray hair. How often do you henna your hair? What is your henna procedure.

Thanks:grin:

A new henndigo head...FOR LIFE! I've only done two treatments, one month apart but I want to start doing it bi-weekly for a few months.

I just posted pics of my color today.

The Auburn streaks are my grays.

The color is very close to my natural color. I henna for the conditioning, strengthening and thickening benefits only. Covering my grays is a definite plus!

My hair is almost APL. I do 2 parts henna and 1 part indigo, I only use warm water for my paste. I also add Amla powder to my henna paste. I do the one step process; I mix my henna and let the color release overnight for 12 hours. In the morning I mix the indigo and immediately add it to my henna paste, apply it and let it stain for 6 hours. I do a very moisturizing steam conditioning treatment afterwards.

Beautiful color

I use Body Art Quality Henna. I use a bit of ACV to release the dye the night before I plan to use it.

I let it sit on kitchen counter (covered) overnight.

I cowash my Hair with something super moisturizing. Right before applying I add a squirt of Oil.

I then make my Indigo. Warm/Hot Water and a pinch of Salt to darken the Indigo.

Both should be a Yogurt Consistency.

I use more Indigo/less Henna. I mix the Henna into the Indigo and apply with Gloves.

Wrap Hair in Saran Wrap and cover with 2 Plastic Caps.

I usually leave it on 2 or 3 hours which always Successfully darkens hair and totally & completely cover grey.

I cowash it out again with something Moisturizing and I DC with a Moisturizing DC'er & I usually Steam for about 45 minutes.

Days afterwards, I moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I usually "Hendigo" about every 6-8 weeks.

I also do one step henna and indigo. I used henna sooq Moroccan henna warm water after 2h for color release, mixed up about 1/3 indigo with warm water. Mixed them together. Then I applied to dirty hair for about 6-7h. Cowashed out. I did it about 3weeks ago. Have been maintaining color with hair one from sallys

Grays totally gone!

I use to always do the 2 Step (Henna 1st then Indigo)

But lately, I've been just doing a Hendigo with Less Henna/More Indigo.

Less time. Perfect Color. Total Coverage (of grey)

I purchase from Henna Sooq as well but I get the Jamila 2012 crop Henna. The sift is amazing and rinses out very well. The customer service is second to none...I received first class service. I emailed them an up close picture of my hair's natural color and asked for a henna/indigo ratio recommendation. Khadijah(sp) responded really fast and her recommendation was dead on!

I've been wanting to color my hair jet black, but I didn't want to apply any chemicals. I was just reading on henna and found out about indigo. Does anyone know if I can just apply just the indigo, or do I have do put the regular henna first, then apply the indigo

No, you cannot use Indigo alone it will turn your hair Green/Blue.

You must have the Stain of Henna for the Indigo to attach itself to.

The Indigo should be applied 5-10 minutes after mixing for the full effect and a Dash of Salt helps to darken the color.

You can still get jet black by adjusting your Henna ratio to Indigo. Hence: Less Henna, more Indigo.

But you must use Henna.

Thank you soo much for the info. Lord knows I don't want blue/green. Lol! I'm definitely going to try the hence method.

Indigo stains the henna and leaves your hair jet black. If you mix indigo with henna, it'll be more of a brown. If you don't want to darken your henna'd hair, don't use indigo. And depending on the current color of your hair, henna will only give it a reddish (or burgundy) tint. If your hair is already dark, you'll likely only see the reddish color as a highlight in the sunlight. Any grays will be a bright coppery red tho.

I usually wait a week or two after Relaxing. Make sure the Henna is Body Art Quality (BAQ).

I use the one from Mehandi.com for African American and Chemically Treated Hair (since I am Relaxed).

Putting it on before relaxing, (in my experience removed the Indigo). I wait until after Relaxing to Hendigo.

ETA: As far as preparation: I apply to freshly cowashed hair and I use something moisturizing throughout the process.

Also, rinsing the Hendigo out with plenty of Conditioner.

@317537

May I ask, what color was your hair prior to your henna and indigo?
Your current color is SO pretty!

Do you think wholes foods will have it, I don't want to wait for a shipment and I haven't saw any Indian stores around my way

I have some old highlights and new grays. I was trying to match my semi-natural color. Thx for the compliment! It's a lil bit redder overall but I like it. I didn't want to have to use chemicals to cover gray. It is permanent so I saved up brush hair and dyed that first

After 3-4 washes with Sally's hair one. I have not used shampoo in about a month.

The henna obliterated my pesky grays at the temple. I'm planning on redoing every 6weeks or so.

I want to start henna/indoing soon, need to do some more research. Don't really want my hair color to change, it matches all my weaves perfectly, but I want all the great conditioning properties that hena gives. :D I'm a 1B, what would be a good ratio to use?

Ok. I will check out the website. Thanks a bunch, you have been a great help. Now I'm getting excited to try it.

If you don't want colour, a better option for you would be cassia which has all the benefits of henna but none of the colour. It may turn your greys blondish I believe though. You can also do a henna gloss wherein you just add henna to conditioner and use it that way. You'll have to tweak the proportions though so as to make sure it doesn't deposit colour on your hair. Also different types of henna have different strengths for releasing colour so perhaps choose the one that has the least amount or is from a previous crop.

In making henna mixes, how safe is it to mix yogurt in with it and what are some good ingredients to mix in it? I want jet black so bad and I want to use henna and indigo but there are so many mixes out there. And also IDareT'sHair what kind/brand of conditioner do you use because I am also afraid of the drying effect and I have pretty dense 4b hair. But I am ready and game to do this because I have been researching it forever, just want to be able to find the right henna/indigo mix.

Hey humility1990 -I'm a henna-head too. I've been henna'ing regularly since 2008 !! I use NUPUR henna exclusively, and I've been using henna every single month for four years.!! I like the additionaly indian herbs that NUPUR contains. I've noticed over the past years that this brand of henna not only darkens my hair, but it also retards the greying of new hairs.

By now, my henna routine is down pat!
-I mix 200g of NUPUR henna
-room temp coffe, or room temp black tea
-Amla Oil
-Trader Joe Conditioner

When I come home from work on Friday evening, I mix the henna to a cake batter consistency. I part my hair in 4 sections. Apply my henna. Put on a shower cap. Secure with a scarf. Then go to bed.

I never worry about color release, I get that while I sleep. I also don't worry about walking around the day with a heavy "mud-head".

On Saturday morning, I simply proceed with my normal moisturizing routine, and that's it. Been working like a charm for 4 years, so there's no need for me to change it up.

HTH!:yep:

Hey Ms. Cnapp!

I start by Cowashing my Hair (before applying the Henna/Indigo) with something like Jessicurl, Hairveda, Silk Dreams, CJ any super moisturizing R/O etc...but I rinse the Henna out with Suave Tropical Coconut.

I also have VO5 Moisture Milks on hand for Henna Rinsing, but 'prefer' Suave Coconut.

After the water runs clear, I Steam with a Moisturizing DC'er

OsnapCnapp!
