I live in a medium-sized college town outside of St. Louis, and I'm noticing tons of this on campus. Lots of girls I know are relaxed (I've seen them at one point or another with their hair in it's usual state) are popping up with fro wigs and wavy weave. @_@ I saw one with a weave pony puff. Don't get me wrong, it was really cute. I just thought it was interesting because when the semester started, I was getting funny looks from some of these very same girls. Now, they're all running around with kinky weave.

yes girl yes!! lol and YES it does irritate me! NOT because of the fact that its a weave, but because half of the girls Ive seen who have it, have dogged out natural hair, but if its the "in" thing to get a WEAVE of natural hair its alright tho. I dont get it. Is it because its not permanent that its ok?:spinning:

That's why this boggles me, lol. It's mostly the girls who were giving me stank looks who're wearing it now....Oh well. Hopefully, this will push the notion that there's nothing wrong with natural hair. Baby steps, I suppose. :)

That's exactly why it's ok. I guess it's trendy to be natural so they'll fake to make it.

I didn't vote, not sure how accurate my assessment is given that I am newly natural and just might be more susceptible to notice these sort of things; but I have begun to notice this. Whets funny is that in addition to the natural weaves, I have ALSO noticed women who are known-relaxees, wear "natural" styles [(curly fro's, curly fro-hawks, etc) not saying these styles are exclusive to naturals, but I believe you all get my point here]. They could VERY well be doing the protective style thing, but for those who I know that relax religiously and take issue with natural hair, I have to wonder where it all comes from and what makes it okay. I might just ask the next lady I see and hear what it is she has to say about it; now I'm curious.

There was a girl in my natural hair yahoo group that had the most fantastic hair. I used to love to stalk her pics. Later, she posted how she took her weave out and I was shocked! It looked so natural!

LMAO!:lachen::lachen:

I have seen some beautiful ones.

The natural weave has been around for awhile. It got popular when a lot of celebs wore big curly/nappy weaves for a minute.

I guess that explains why I can't find a decent afro or kinky curly wig/ponytail online for my tranisitioning head. lol

I think I started noticing natural hair was a trend when I started seeing it more and more in mainstream media. Then it seemed to trickle down from there. It's fine with me that it's become more popular.

I'm guessing y'all are either in the Northern section of the country, or in college, cuz round here, it's still 5.5 pounds of that good bone straight remy yaki on folks heads. :lachen:

I've seen a couple of 'wavy' weaves (like Foxy/Lil Kim wears) - but nothing even vaguely kinky looking.

Nope, but some of the worst lace front installs stand in front of me each day. Makes me want to offer help each time. I'm talkin enough gel to act as fly paper.

They're so bad I never get to evaluate the wig itself. My eyes won't get pass the hairline.

I'm in NC & surrounded by HBCUs (North Carolina Central U, Shaw Univ, St. Augustine, NC A&T, Fayetteville State) yes, natural hair in full effect here!

Its a epidemic out here in NYC. SMH.

I clicked too quickly...I have seen a natural WIG thing going on lately. I just don't know where they are buying their wigs because all the ones I have seen in beauty supply stores look fake. The ones I have seen in church and going to and from my DD's school in the morning look REAL!!! It made me want one for the mornings when I don't feel like taking down my twists...

I don't see too much weave or wigs that look like type 4 hair. Most of the "natural" weave is in the 3 range. I have a few wigs like that as well. I don't see too many black wome in Vegas wearing the natural weave look.

I wouldn't mind a kinky wig or weave. I can never find type 4 hair texture though.

Not too many ladies out here are rockin the natural weave. :nono:

I've seen it a little bit of everywhere, not in one particular city/state though (I'm a world reknown traveler now lol). But i have seen young ladies rocking the "natural" look by either wigs, ponytails, or faking it with their hair until they make it.

I don't think it should be looked at as a bad thing. My sister and I get sew-ins all the time. I have never had a curly/kinky weave but she has and her reason for it was just that she wanted a bit of a change..I loved her hair too.

I was down in Atlantic City and out and about in Philly and a whole lot of girls were sporting wavy/"natural" weaves or ponytails. The thing that got me was that they were staring at me all crazie with my REAL natural puff.

The thing that really gets me about this "trend" is how every time I see women sporting this look the hair is all frizzy and they look unkempt. They don't keep it up and it makes me feel like other ppl judge my natural hair because of how these women represent/misrepresent the natural hair community.
