Hmm, perhaps I should explain my original post in case the last two were directed at it. If not, still no biggie. :) I didn't grow up around black people..just the fact of the matter in my life was white people, asians, and pacific islanders. As a result, I didn't even know weave existed until I was in high school, and even then I didn't see ANY natural weave/wigs/whatever. Fast forward a decade later, and three states later - I see it now. :giggle: I never said nor even implied it was a bad thing, nor that people who do it are "fake." I'm wearing a straight/curly wig right now and I have 3 inches of natural 4a/b hair so it'd be awfully hypocritical of me to call someone fake for doing so. It was merely curiosity and and a need to talk about it with people who have had similar experiences and don't get annoyed whenever I bring up hair, lol. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes, it sure is.
It is funny how many of the ladies who wear "natural" weaves will probably never go natural.
It is a nice option though. I personally like it a lot more than the super glossy fake looking weaves.

A problem I had with my synthetic wig...it was so unnaturally shiny it bugged me. :/

Yes, I have lots of friends buying afro wigs to wear on a regular basis. I think it's a cute, but non-permanent styling option for those who aren't ready to BC.

its been goin on for awhile now----every natural you see is not all real---at least in a big city where natural installs are common

.

so?

when they wear "silky chinese hair" weaves, people whine, they are wearing weaves closer to their texture, people are still moaning

seriously?

so only those willing to go natural should be allowed to use such weaves or what's the deal?

YES YES YES:lachen:

I was JUST in the store earlier 2day and a girl had it *her's looked a whole hell of a lot better then the ones I've seen the past few months* and I blame LHCF for me even noticing because since lurking on this site for so long I have some weird hair radar.*beep beep beep weave...beep beep beep beep wig...beep beep real hair "ooo niiiiice"* but I see it more with high school aged girls around here. *DC Metro area* The problem is often these girls take a good thing and go overboard.

At they end of the day they all look about the same. Its like they are going to the SAME stylist.

I do that too. Sometimes when I'm killing time in the mall, I just sit down and "hair stare". And keep score of real hair vs. weave installations.

I don't think that's a bad thing. If you're going to wear a weave/wig, I would think the normal impulse would be to wear hair that look like it naturally grows out of your scalp. I don't see white or asian ladies wearing afro wigs/weaves on the daily.

I have also noticed a lot of naturals on campus. I dont know if i'm just more aware since I'm considering transitioning or what but there are a lot

I finally caught up to a youtube video that shows the natural style I started seeing alot women in last year. Its usually really big and long-- longer than hers. The first set of people I saw, I just thought it was awesome natural hair. But then I kept seeing women w/the exact same hair style all over- like the mall! Resembles a stretched natural twistout. It's called "Super weave" Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmBD10-9Sh4

Shoot, I want to try a kinky weave. Perfect for the winter.
To answer your question, yeah I've seen some in London, but they look too glossy like doll's hair and are type 3 curls sometimes.

Well the super weave looks dry, more like natural hair. I don't mean a "bad" dry, just a normal natural dry- rather than the shiny barbie doll hair

I've seen this on girls around my campus. I don't like it. The lack of fake gloss is very nice, but that huge lump is almost always there when I see it. It screams weave/wig whenever I see it.

what lump are you talking about. Do you mean a tracks peeking thru?? The superweave tends to be naturally thick and does great track coverage from what I can see. Now the blending...well, thats a different story!

That huge bump in the middle of her head that starts from the front and goes back. It's hard to explain it, it's just...there, lol. The funny thing is, I've never seen a problem with the blending. The women around here do really well with that. If it weren't for that bump, I'd have thought it was coming out of their scalp, lol. Usually, I'll see someone wear it once as is, then after that, they constantly have a headband or a scarf on...

I wish I could find type 4 weaves in my area. If I see "natural" weaves, they're usually in the 3 range.:ohwell: Then again, the 99.9% of the weaves I see at home are butt-length, silky-straight or Indian Remy.
