Her book is the first hair advice book that I ever read. She believes in not brushing, not trimming ends and not using hair grease. I have read her book and it is pretty basic I have also used her conditioner and dew spray. Does anyone have any comments about her views or products?

Her book is called Ultra Black Hair Growth and her site is http://www.ultrablackhair.com/index.html

B-U-M-P-I-N-G....

b/c I just received her products in the mail today(i've been a product junkie lately) and I's wondering the same thing...

When I first started off on my journey, Cathy Howse and her ideas/methods were the first that I ran into and followed to the T. I didn't however believe that her products were the end all be all and that out of the millions of products out there, there just HAD TO be something out there that was both accessible and affordable for me to use and still have my hair thrive.

Overall through trail and error and testing different products, I've found my staples which work for me. I don't want to feel like being a slave to someone else's hair care line, and that's how I thought I would feel going with her products. I didn't like the idea that I had to order her stuff online and couldn't easily get them from a local store if I ran out, or even worse the scenario if they stopped production of her products, I'd be pretty out of luck.

Her methods though, I agree with her wholeheartedly.

OMG...I think we are all spiritually in tuned to one another or something, because I was wondering the same thing earlier today!!!!

I started off with CH's book and products. I didn't care too much for her products, however I did incorporate some of her techniques into my regimen. More recently I've been washing & rollersetting (with the bonnet dryer) twice a week with great results and I started to think...CH suggest washing every 3 days...then I went looking for her book (to refresh my brain on her total regimen), which of course I can't find:wallbash:...

i feel like many things, if not most of the stuff, in people's regimens on LHCF are in some way or another derived from her ideas. i had no idea till i wondered why people kept talking about her and i did a search on her on here then on google.

Her method was the only thing that helped me start retaining after having bald spots for two years (I tried everything to help it:perplexed). After 1 month of her book, keeping my hair moisturised and using a protien supplement I had 1" and went on growing and retaining 0.5 a month with no split ends hardly.

I went against her advice at the start of this year in regards to relaxing/texlaxing and my hair fell out again in places and broke off in others so Im natural again and keeping it simple:yep:.

Best thing about the CH system is it is very simple, I like her products but they are not essential. Basically research what ingredients are best in moisturisers/conditioners for our hair and start reading labels. The UBH lotion is nice but I found my hair would be dry too soon after considering the price but thats just my hair. The general advice she gives is the most useful as a basic foundation for hair growing.

Cathy has been talked about a lot on this site. If you do a search you will probably find more information.

my hair needs her creme moisturizer. it is the only thing that keeps my hair moisturized and keeps it from drying frizzy when i airdry. it's thick but it doesnt weigh down my hair at all. no other product works so well on my hair. i just ordered a 32oz bottle.

I fell the same way. I love the ubh moisturizer and it is all I use, no sealing oils, since it's second ingredient is olive oil. Plus for me and my hair, I've noticed that if I put any runny oil on my hair, even just a drop, my hair sheds like there's no tomorrow. I don't however like that her products aren't sold in a store. :wallbash:

Yes, I have her products and if any of your ladies live in PG County, Maryland, there is a beauty supply store in Suitland and in Alexandria, Virginia that carries her products. Her Dew spray is OK. I like the cream moisturizer because you can definitely stretch your relaxer with it. I have the large bottle. It's especially great when you're trying to lay your sides down (when stretching) when you wear your hair pulled back in a bun. As for her conditioner, it feels wonderful on the scalp, but I have to dilute i(half and half ) it with another conditioner....it's something in it that makes my hair shed when I rinse it out and I can see a strands of hair in my hands. When I dilute it, I don't have that problem. All in all, it's a good product, but the moisturizing lotion is a must. I think you can do without her protein conditioner. I've had better....

I forgot to mention that I tried her method, and did not clip my ends for two years. It worked. I'm sold on her theory relating to clipping ends, unless you want to do a "dusting" for appearances.

I had been using some of principles (washing every 3-4 days, DCing with heat 20 mins, etc) but I had no idea until I read her book. I was like "hey, I already do that!" I've never used her products because I'm a little hesitant about using products that aren't easily accessible in a BSS or store. She's also a firm believer in using lots of protein and that doesn't agree with my hair.

I was the exact same way. In her book and on her site she makes it seem like you can't achieve anything without her products :( But I won't lie....

The dew is awesome! I've used it as some of my leave-in after wash day, I've used it for rollersetting. I even used it along with some Keracare hairdress when I was flat-ironing. MY HAIR WAS SHINY! And the shine looked natural, some products make it look like you slathered a bunch of oil sheen or something, which I don't like. Her dew works wonders :)

Then there's her conditioner. A+++++. I love the peppermint oil. The only thing with that is it's way too thick to be in that kind of bottle. Sometimes it's like WWE Smackdown just trying to get some :nono:

I'm still figuring out how to use her creme moisturizer. I'm not really feeling it. I'll probably give that up for aloe vera/glycerin.

when Trying to start my healthy hair care journey i started off with CH tips!
I have both of her books and she has alot of helpful information for newbies about hair health and care for both naturals and Relax ladies! i use some of her recommend advice like washing every 3 days but i never really tried her products.I love visiting her site her hair is beautiful!

Simply Subscribing. I have and love her conditioner and moisturizer. I am yet to read her book.

I have CH's Dew and Creme Moisturizer. I love the Dew I use it faithfully whenever I blow dry & flatiron. I do however notice a lot of shedding if I don't cw using other oils and conditioners ... so I can't say that I strictly rely on her products alone. I have to supplement her products with other regimens. I'm now trying Infusium 23 repair(ologie). So far so good (minimal shedding).

her Dew does absolutely nothing for me. even when i'm one week post, my hair just drinks it up. i dont even know why i continue to purchase it:ohwell:

Spray it on right before you go to bed (be heavy-handed, but don't drench lol). Either wrap or use a silk bonnet and the results are heavenly in the morning. Silky, moist, and not weighed down ;)

I've read several hair books and CH's book is one of a few that actually gives specific details on what to do with your hair and her advice works! I plan on purchasing Thinning Edges in Vegas and getting her autograph if possible. I haven't used her products but reading this thread has me considering the dew :drunk::grin:

Cathy was my first introduction on this healthy hair journey, as well. I had a weave at the time. I used both the conditioner and dew moisturizer. I think there is a lot of credence to what she says in her book, a lot of it makes sense. I started changing the way I handled my hair, more importantly. But, that led me to the C&G Method, which led me to this forum.

But, I do agree that there are plenty of other products out there (besides hers) that can lead to wonderful results. Her shipping is a killer!

You haven't used her products and you plan on meeting her? She sounds scary online when people say they don't have her book or products, imagine her in person?! Ima pray for you :look:

Cathy Howse introduced me to healthy hair care practices. However, I wasn't using her conditioner properly and as a result my hair broke off due to protein overload.

My hair grew tremendously from shoulder length to APL in 6 months, and then bam - snap, crackle, and pop. I was so hurt that I had to get a major cut to neck length which led me to find LHCF.

If you are going to use her deep conditioner which is mostly protein, please follow up with a super moisturizing conditioner. IMHO she really needs to stress having a moisture / protein balance.

As far as not trimming the ends...I'm still on the fence about that one:drunk:. I think my hair does better when I dust often.

I started my hair care journey after finding tons of advice from Cathy's website. Her book contains useful information but this board can offer you the same data if you have time to search. The most important change I made after reading Cathy's book was to throw out my brushes and moisturize my hair daily. Just these two actions made a world of difference for me. My hair used to be too dry and I had no idea why it was always breaking! Of course after joining LHCF, I have been able to learn so many new techniques and I'm excited about my hair potential again. BTW, I still use Cathy's dew spray, followed by coconut oil. I use the cream moisturizer and protein conditioner occasionally.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :sekret:
I'm still on the PJ Use it Up Challenge from a year ago! I'm not even close to needing any more conditioner yet but I'm gonna make an exception

I like a lot of her advice....I haven't used the products though...I almost ordered the dew but then changed my mind... I like products that I can have easy access to...also the ingredients didn't seem like anything special...I figured I could use her methods & advice with products that I already have...

I love her products. I started a new regimen and went off her products but I'm going to order her creme moisturizer because it's the only one that actually did well with my hair.

I tried her conditioner a few years ago, but it felt chalky on my hair. Does anyone know if she has changed the formulation to correct that?

I know right? I mean seriously I've read some of the things she says on her website when people dare mention that they haven't read her book and use her products. They get slapped the hell down! :lachen:

I can't knock her though, I started off my healthy hair practices through Cathy, I still follow her wash every three days method which really work for me. I can't get on with the Dew though, it did nada for me. :nono:
