I know that there are black women whose hair are resistent to humidity and even a little rain. Why is that? Their strands must be sealed or something. I live in NY and its been raining somewhat. And I must say that my hair is growing...alot! However, it just frizzies when a little humidity is in the air.
I know i don't need a trim because i dusted like 2 weeks ago and my ends look fine. Do any of u ladies hair do really well in any kind of wheather. I would love to figure out a way I could make my hair resistant to the weather.
Adrienne, if ur reading does ur hair ever frizz or does it always stay smooth? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girrrrl, I am in NYC also - and I got my hair done on Sunday and look like the statue of Liberty - I feel that these days have been abnormal with humidity - if you find anything let me in on it pleeeeease!

NYCITY,

Personally, I don't think it is a "black thing" at all. Recently, living on this swamp called Northern Virginia, I have had so many random conversations with women of all races complaining about "what the hell happened to my hair?" Even some men. The humidity here has been so awful and we just seem to go between more rain, more humidity and few dry periods.

I don't have an answer for you in the generic sense. However, I have found that with my own hair, the best thing is a limited number of products. No extra oil, especially on the ends and using basically a conditioner for "normal hair." I usually choose "dry". That seems to have made a tremendous difference.

You might want to give Tracy a ring. Her explanation made sense to me. She had replied to someone who was having similar complaints and was using tons of moisturizing products. The frizz was worse. One comment which made sense to me was almost an overload of moisture from products and from the air. Her suggestion was a dose of protein, to boot.

I'm dealing with this weather too!
This morning I put a little Fantasia IC Hair Polisher on my hair prior to leaving for work. It was a bit humid out, so I decided to put it on last minute. My hair didn't get limp or loss it's bounce. I believe the IC Polisher helped me out today!

I am not sure but when I first started getting my hair relaxed (age 12 or 13) and I could have just gotten my hair freshly touched up but if there was humidity, my hair would frizz and fall...so like a half afro.

But for some reason, probably starting after college, my hair stopped frizzing. I am guessing it is because my hair started getting relaxed bone straight. Not that I requested this...but I think that's the reason that it stopped frizzing. The curls would fall...but no frizz.

I read this last night and was very intrigued. I used more protein and less moisturizers with my wash last night and was very pleased today, suprisingly!!!

Hairlove,
I've experienced the exact same thing. When I was in high school, I can remember dreading humid days cuz my hair would end up looking like a big fuzzy cotton ball.

For some reason, I don't have that problem anymore. Like you, my curls fall, but my hair doesn't get all frizzy...

Ma hair can handle the humidity and rain, it just can't handle the heat. I have to wear a scarf or something otherwise it sunburns (yes, hair gets sunburned too). But I'm not sporting straight styles while I'm doing daily conditioning washes and so actually the humidity tends to be kind to my hair. The curls form better plus it makes my hair grow. It's like getting natural steam treatments if that makes sense.

Monday and Tuesday I had no problems with frizz which is unsual for me I had flat ironed my hair. I also wore it flat ironed Saturday night at my class reunion..dancing and sweating and it was humid...again no frizz. Today I am doing the wash and go and so the humidity is helping my curls have some body( but I can tell by the end of the day I'll have alot more body than I want). So I'm attributing the frizz free hair to the flatironing although I'm not sure how....
