Now, I know this question has been asked a million times before, BUT the search feature is down as usual. I have about 50 breakage hairs per day. I would like to cut that in half. I've been wearing my hair in a pony tail for low manipulation, putting oil on it daily(which has not been drying surprisingly), and just babying my hair. Nonetheless, I get breakage. What protein treatment really really really works?

I'd say do a henna treatment followed by a really good DC moisturizer

Are these shedded hairs from the root or broken pieces of hair strands?

I ask because broken pieces of hair strands could be due to a lack of moisture, in which case a protein treatment would make it worse.

When I need a protein treatment I use a hardcore aphogee treatment. I just picked up the motions protein reconstructor this week and it has been fine so far.

Some ladies also use Joico K-pak and Nexxus Emergencee.

I would have to co-sign seemingly sweet on the aPHogee protein treatment and the joico k-pak as great protein treatment.

Also, if you fear that the breakage may be from lack of moisture, you my try to pre-poo with a light protein such as aphogee 2 min reconstructor and then after shampooing try a moisturizing deep conditioner such as kenras deep conditioner or keracare's humecto. I will sometimes add a bit of sweet almond oil to my deep conditioner - this seems to help keep my hair soft.

Be careful on doing too much too soon. Try adding one thing at a time to your normal routine to see if a product may be the culprit or if it truly is a needed protein treatment or moisturizing treatment.

Hopefully some other ladies will chime in, but I would agree vickyd and suggest you do a mild/medium protein pre-poo to test the waters. Organic root stimulator hair mayo is another protein conditioner that people use.

When I had those tiny pieces of hair all over the place I stopped using direct heat every week and rebalanced the moisture in my hair to correct it.

Aphogee. Although I did Motions CPR last week and noticed a huge difference. I shed a lot no necessarily breakage.

I do have some Aphogee 2 min. Thanx for your suggestions.

Besides henna, I found that silk amino acid (SAA) works wonders. I don't have a hair breakage problem but I found when I started using it mixed with some conditioner and leave-in, it makes my hair stronger as it binds with my hair strands, making stretching easier with no shedding as the weeks go by. SAA has a good protein/moisturizer balance. There are many threads here with more details. :)

have you been using a water based moisturizer? using just oil can lead to dryness since oil doesnt moisturize. maybe you need a moisturizing dc first.

I used a moisturizer with water as the second ingedient for awhile. It was okay. The oil has been working well so far. I think I will start using a moisturizer again about two weeks from now.
