Hello my fellow beautiful LHCF sisters :drunk: HEELLLLPPPP

For those that BKT regularly, are you having difficulty gaining thickness to your hair? If not, what are you doing to maintain or gain thickness? Which BKT are you using?

Thanks!!

Regards,

Lexs "Love BKT but hair losing thickness" Marie

When was your last treatment? I asked because my last treatment was in December of 2010 and my thickness is gone.

So have you decided to leave it alone? Mines was February 2011. I don't know if its actually thinning or breaking off at the "transition" line? I feel like this BKT thing was a bad idea.

Subscribing. Not to scare you all but I have never found BKT to leave hair looking strong. It looks so wispy to me, but there have always been these sermons about how it thickens strands. I've tagged some BKT proponents so they can come and shed light on this as I'm curious too.

I got my BKT in June and I have lost some thickness. This was only the second time I got it. The first time was in August of 2010.

I don't think I will get it again. I got it in June because it was clear that it had worn off in probably in February and my hair was hard to get straight for work. (I liked my hair straight for work.)

Lexsmarie, I've decided to leave it alone. I will never have this treatment done again. My first two were successful and my hair revereted back. The last one I switched brands and that's when I lost all of my thickness.

I'm starting over from scratch, I'm going to get a pixie which I don't mind because I want something different done to my hair and I also want my thickness back as well.

Which brand did you use that caused you to lose the thickness?

Lexs, what brand did you use? Dream hair did me in and I will never BKT again.

I only BKT'ed once, with DreamHair 10.5 months ago. My hair is definitely thinner. The new growth that is growing out from the roots now is also thinner than it was pre-keratin. I am beginning to think that BKT permanently changes the internal structure of the hair and that my hair will never be as thick ad it once was. I have spoken with many others who ave had this same experience, 2-3 years later the hair thickness never returned. BKT is definitely the worse thing that I ever did to my hair and I do not recommend that anyone get them. I hope that your hair will regain it's natural thickness.

I'm interested in BKT but I'm terrified to do it because of a few horror stories. Do you guys think it's the chemical or the heat that's causing the hair to thin?

Oh and the reason why I'm considering it is to see if it'll help with my shrinkage.

Are you going to BC then?

Wow, sorry to hear about the bad Bkt experiences..I love Bkt... I am almost 2 yrs post and use QOD max and my thickness returns unless I use it too often.. Now QOD gold did not agree with my hair at all...but that's it. I experienced increased shedding with gold and if i didn't take action by purchasing alter ego energizing drops ( the best) and alter ego garlic the shedding would have made an impact on my hair.

:look::look: Yep... I am curious also....

I have a stylist friend who has used this on herself and her clients ( Brazilian Blowout ) - she is black - many of her clients are not ( she is in Santa Monica, CA) but.....
She told me - that all in all - it is a fancy dancy ......Relaxer.... that curls never really return.....

With that statement - I knew that I would never try it... I lost a great deal of thickness due to tradtional relaxers - so I am almost certain the same would happen with this product....

sigh - as much as I would love wash n go..... I can't go through all of that all over again....

Good luck to everyone - not bashing... I just wanted to say that this was my girlfriend's direct review of any BKT product....:yep:

I think the long term effects are probably problematic....

I try to use keratin spray and do protien treatments every three months.. I think that is probably enough.:yep:

I love when my hair was BKT'd didn't lose any thickness. This is definitely not a relaxer. any form or fashion. My hair reverted completely no issues.

My stands were thicker, coated like but smooth and silky. It reminded me of a Japanese relaxer, when it was freshly done.

I'd do it again.

Lucky's Mom, I keep coming back  but you're right, it's like I have a relaxer in my head and I've never been relaxed before in my life. My hair defnitely isn't the same and I'm just done with it that I'm cutting it.

I haven't had a "moment" with my hair since I was a teenager transitioning back to my natural hair after having curl. With me cutting my hair and with all of the knowledge that I have due to this board I know that my hair will grow back in no time, I'm ready for the journey :yep:.

I think that it is the chemical that permanently alters the internal structure of the hair. The heat probably causes the thinning. I am not going to big chop. I am going to gradually cut off the BKT'ed hair. In another year, I should be able to determine the new "permanent structure" of my hair and figure out where to go from here. BTW, when I got the BKT, I had not been texlaxed for 2 years. My hair was in very good health. Boston Marie, you have beautiful hair and I did too before BKT. PLease don't be foolish and learn from others, stay away from BKT!

I have been bkting for 2 years and my hair is super thick. I never had problems with DreamHair either, it was one of my favs. My hair is 3b/c and a bit silky and very, very strong naturally so maybe thats why. Anyhoo, I love the treatments. I have been using QOD MAX,Organiq (no formeldahyde or similar ingredients) and I love it!

deborah11, one more question and then i'm out. How can BKT alter the internal structure of your hair if you BC though? I just don't understand how that's possible if you're starting over with no BKT hair whatsoever.

I am not a scientist. I am only speculating based on discussions with others and my own hair. I could be totally wrong and I really pray that I am. I say this because for me and others that have BKT'ed the new hair growth is no longer as thick as it was before the BKT. For example, when I was relaxed my new growth was NEVER altered, it grew back with the same texture, and density. Not so after BKT. My new growth is NOT as dense, indiviual strands not as thick, and hair not as coarse as before. Hope this makes sense. I know that BKT works for some but it did not work for me. BTW, there was a BKT strand on Oprah.com which no longer exists since Oprah reorganized. That thread had thousands of pages of women with negative BKT experiences many of whom never regained their pre-keratin natural texture and thickness. Many of these women with whom I personally communicated cut their hair off and the new growth only "thicken slighty" but never regained pre-keratin thickness, even after 2 years. Hope this helps to explain what I meant by my comment. Out now,as I don't want a BKT controversy only telling you about my experience and reservations about BKT.

I've had it a few times well over a year ago. One of the benefits of the BKT is to take the bulkiness out of hair temporarily. This is the market the product aims for. Most women I have read about who have fine hair complain of it making their hair pin straight. Over time as it washes away, the normal bulkiness returns.

So, I'm not sure if you're looking to have a thicker appearance that BKT may help. Most women lean towards henna for that.

ETA: I used QOD Max and Keratin Complex by Coppola (or something like that). I had no issues with either.

Also, this treatment takes oodles of manipulation and heat that can thin out hair if you're not careful. So, you may want to consider that we well. Hope this helps.

The first 2 times I used Softliss. And I believe that went well. Then I used Dreamhair 2 times and thats when I start seeing the thinning.

My 'Hair Buddy' uses QOD with no problems and her hair actually looks more healtheir and thicker than before. I'm starting to think Dreamhair is the root of the problem (or just BKT in general).

I got a bkt last fall and loved it straight but I only wore it straight for a week or 2. I went right back to wearing my usual twists and noticed my twists didn't have their usual plumpness or thickness. I think it makes the strand stronger but doesn't do a thing for the "look" per se. I won't be getting it again cause we want to start our family soon, but I would probably do a formaldehyde-free version next time. I used Coco's Keratin at 2% (very strong strength) last time. I was gonna get it again and called them complaining about the thickness. They'd changed theirs to about 1.3% strength but told me not to put on as much as before---use less, to retain more thickness and kink.....HTH

Oh yeah, after about 9 months it wore out, and rerurned to its normal thickness. I'd maintained my trims so I had no damage over 9 mos and great growth----prolly cause of that and heat 2x in 9 mos, worn straight about 10 days tops.

I used the QOD MAX Organiq on my 2 daughters also and there has been no loss of thickness. I don't iron or blowdry their hair much.

I was tagged. Hey guys. Well in my experience wispy-ness is from the amount of heat used not the actual treatment itself. You DO NOT need to fry the treatment in no matter what the stylists say. When I did my treatment with high heat I got the annoyance from my hair so had to up protein etc.

Right now my hair is very thick. Also I only do treatments 3ce a year alternating with relaxing (I BKT about halfway through my stretch).

I also don't pay attention much to all the hoo ha about not using certain products. BKT doesn't make your hair invincible just more manageable. I'm BSB now the longest I've every been with very thick hair (I've always been fine haired) I have to say my vits have also helped with thickness.

My hair is relaxed, coloured, highlighted, BKT-ed with no, yes NO split ends.

HTH

I was tagged.:look:

I started using BKT in April 2009, Lasio and then Rejuvenol. I have used it at least 8 times, maybe 9. I also tried Marcia Texteria (sp?) once (chocolate).

I have not noticed any thinning of my hair strands at all. However, I do not use BKT for straight hair. I only wear my hair straight right after the treatment and then I wear my hair curly after the first wash. My curls always revert. I have a video on my youtube page (link below) of the BKT treatment and another video of my hair after the first wash. I think BKT loosens my curl pattern, for a few months at least, but it has always reverted back to 4a.

Since I was tagged...I have noticed thinning, and I put it down to the amount of heat involved in the treatment. My new growth is thick as all get-out, and (I think) more noticeable because I have not retained thickness in the overall length of my hair. I'm not going to BC, but I will lay off the BKT for a while to see how my hair does.

If anyone is interested in getting a BKT, I would suggest that you let your hair fully revert between treatments, as I think that is where I went wrong. HTH.
