I know we have the support thread but lets start a thread listing products that don't contain the sodium chloride and sulfates that work against BKT.

Are you sure about Aubrey Organics?

I love a lot of their products, but I find the hair product ingredients to be misleading.

Their "coconut fatty cream base" in their conditioners is just Ceteryl Alchol.

I'm presuming that there is a good chance that their "corn oil soap" may be a disguised sulfate.

Just giving a heads up!

corn oil soap is not a sulfate. corn oil soap is Decyl/lauryl Glucosides. it is derived from lauryl alcohol(fatty "good' alcohol) and glucose(from corn).

OP I think this is gonna be a great thread!! We needed a definite APPROVED list. I think this thread and the keratin support thread should both be sticky. Can you edit your first post to add to your list as others name their products? Then it would just be one BIG approved list!

This link says that it's not soap based because soap would be a base and the shampoo is acidic.


Like I said... I like the company and products, but I do think they are misleading with the ingredients in an effort to appear as "natural" as possible.

I don't know what's in the shampoo (if they "lie" about one ingredient, I wouldn't be surprised if they lied about another one)... but I just wanted to put it out there so anyone who really cares about using sulfates on their hair is informed that there MAY be some misleading info in the ingredients list!

I am aware of aubrey's creative labeling. The coconut fatty acid cream base is cetyl/cetearyl alcohol. Once again, corn oil soap is decyl/lauryl glucoside, which is a surfactant not a sulfate. All sulfates are surfactants but all surfactants are not sulfates.

Alright! I'm not trying to start an argument over some shampoo here :lachen: I'm not that hair fanatical. :lol:

I haven't decided either way, but I thought I would tell other people who may not know. I'm not saying that it is or isn't anything... just thought that maybe some would like to know about it.

The writer of the article doesn't think that it is coconut-corn oil soap in the product based on the pH. They also mislabeled the ceteryl alcohol. I just found that to be food for thought. :yep:

Especially if it affects someone's BKT treatments (not all that familiar with BKT)

I read the article. I am not arguing. I'm just stating a fact. It is hard to decipher tone on a messgae board. The author alluded to the fact of aubrey's organics using a synthetic surfactant. Decyl and lauryl glucosides are synthetic surtactants derived from coconuts and corn oil. Many synthetic compunds are natural derivatives. People are free to do their own research. I'm just starting what I know based on my research. A quick google search for decyl glucoside will show that it is another name for coconut/corn oil soap. That's all.

Did they change the ingredients in this? When i had my first BKT over a year ago, i remember i couldnt use this (either the shampoo or condish, cant remember) b/c it had sodium chloride.

New 'suggested' rule - anyone listing a product needs to have ingredient list handy :lachen:

i looked up the giovanni and got this..

seems safe although i dont know what sodium hydro-blah-blah is... lol

I've been using Oden Botanical Shampoo alternating with Aveda's Shampure. Neither have sodium chloride, but while Shampure does have sulfate (AMMONIUM LAURYL SULFATE) I like the way it makes my hair feel. Doesn't seem to be stripping my hair of the BKT.

Iden Botanical Shampoo

Panax ginseng extract, hemp seed, tea tree oil, jojoba seed oil, carrot seed oil, propolis extract and apricot kernel oil, in d.I water, sdoium methyl 2 sulfolaurate and disodium 2 sulfolaurate and cocamidopropyl chloride and peg 150 distearate, polyquaternium, dimethicone, caprylic/capric triglyceride, propylene glycol, hydrlyzed wheat protein,hdyroxypropyl guar parfum, methylparaben, tetrasodium eedta, propyl paraben, citric acid, tumeric root extract and saffron extract.

I am not at home right now, so I don't have access to the labels, but I have been using Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner on the days I shampoo.
 
I just did my first BKT abt a month ago and looking at the ingredients of the products I use to make sure it wont affect the BKT I noticed that Elucence conditioner has Strearalkonium Chloride and thats salt...I thought salt wears off the BKT??
 
You guys have got to try this treatment..

Rusk Pro Elements Keratin Smoother!!!! I did my hair last night/this morning after DCing with it.. I needed NO products..felt hydrated..moisturized.. soft silky... (yes I'm loving on my hair..lol)

They make a poo and con (all safe ingredients) but since I'm going to buy the Nanokeratin kit didn't want to buy any more poos and cons.

I got the 33 oz one on ebay for 19.99.. and it smells like the Morrocanoil treatment.. will be doing this a couple times a week.

I think we've decided that almost every product has some sodium XXX or XXXX chloride.. but as long as it isn't "sodium chloride" you should be ok.
 
I have ordered some samples of Brandita's shampoos and con. They are on the way, I will report back how they affect my BKT.

Ojon shine and protect made my hair rough and somewhat frizzy :-(
I hadn't use it bfore BKT, so I don't know if it would have done that anyway. I am just saying, just in case.

Yes To carrots is safe, as well as Joico Kpak intense moisture con. Also ORS packs still work great after BKT.

Oh is that true!!!!!!! I was reeeaally not wanting to give up my moisture milks!!! It has sodium something or another (not sodium chloride) in it like as the 3rd to last ingredient (so just a little) and I was like NNNOOOO! Thanks for the info!!!!:grin:
 
I like to shampoo with a mixture of Mill Creek Biotin Shampoo, water and amla oil about once every other week.

My favorite DCs are Sallys GVP Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm and Elasta QP Intense Fortifying conditioner. I no longer DC in the traditional sense now that I cowash daily. After I shampoo I just mix these two conditioners with coconut oil and massage through my hair. I put my normal daily conditioner (Aussie Sidney Smooth) over top and then wet bun and rinse when I cowash the following day.

Oh!!! I just remembered I just bought some Silicon Mix, Whale Sperm and Lacio Lacio from roundbrushhair.com; as in I haven't even opened the box yet, so any one of these may replace one of my faves. I'll be sure to update this thread if that happens.

I guess I'll list my favorite cowash conditioners, too. Vo5 clarifying conditioner for when my hair starts to feel gunky but I'm not yet ready to shampoo or I'm going to reconstruct with aphogee 2 minute; Tresseme moisture rich conditioner, Vo5 moisture milks are close seconds when I want a moisturizing con cowash.

Man, I just realize how many products I use :spinning: I swear my routine feels really simple. Not nearly as complicated as it sounds. I tell you, since BKT I spend no more than 10 minutes per day on my hair. Um... I spend much much more time than that on LHCF, however. :o

^^^Sheba said it was okay. I am thinking of getting some myself. I have the Sally's version Hair One and its definitely okay so I'm sure Wen is too. :yep: You can go to Chaz Dean's web site and look at the ingredients list. As long as it doesn't have "Sodium" anything its okay.
