OK, so my mom asked my advice today and I think I know the answer but I thought I would pose it to the wonderful ladies of LHCF who know all and tell all about hair. :D

OK, so right now she is natural. Her hair is about neck length and really find and soft. Most times when she washes and blowdries her hair it looks like she has pressed it or permed it. She is getting ready for the summer and is getting tired of wearing her hair in braids and cornrows all the time so she is thinking about cutting it.

She said that if she cuts it she will more than likely relax it, but she really doesn't want to. She was thinking of just relaxing the roots since that is the main trouble spot, but I told her that she will most likely have breakage at the point where her relaxed hair meets her natural hair.

So what do you think she should do?

I had mentioned getting a texturizer, but her stylist told her that her hair is too soft. It won't curl and she said that if she were to get a texturizer, she would want to wear it short and curly. Do you know of any other ways to try to get that style?

I don't see the point in relaxing the roots only if her hair is all natural. "Roots only" is for ppl with hair that has already been relaxed and would be damaged if its repeatedly relaxed over and over again so that's why the new growth only is relaxed. If she wants a texturizer she should look for a stylist who is experienced with texturizing and preferably get a consultation first before she decides to go through with it.

Or she can wear her own natural hair curly - just wash with a good shampoo/conditioner and go.

Do you mean since she doens't want a relaxer bone straight that she will still cut it and just have a telaxer?

She ended up getting the texturizer. She didn't cut it for now. Her main issue is that she doesn't know how to style it. It's starting to get hot and she works out, so basically by the time she gets done, her hair looks like a fro which she doesn't want. So we'll see how this works out for her.
