Just wanted to let everyone know how amazing coconut oil is. I've read some of the hype about it and thought it was just the same as any other oil. I tried it with Carol's daughter hair milk Wednesday night on my twist out and it works wonders. My hair feels so soft (I didn't even think my hair could feel this soft) and my hair is shiny but not greasy. I usually have to moisturize my hair every day while in a twist out but it's Friday afternoon and I haven't had to do anything to it. :bouncegre

It's truly a wonder oil, at least for me. I've tried using other nut/vegetable oils to try to find substitutes to save money (I also cook with coconut oil), but nothing compares. Other oils either make my hair feel too greasy or leave my hair feeling dry and crunchy. Not so with my beloved coconut oil! Makes my hair buttery soft, and I love the smell of it . It does kind of act up in very cold weather, though. I usually don't experience problems with it if I'm wet sealing when it's cold out, but if I'm dry oiling my hair it feels a bit stiff when it's very cold out. I've tried sweet almond oil, and it performs kinda similarly to coconut oil, in my opinion. Quite expensive, though. I still think coconut oil is better .

This is why I love the oil so much. It gives my hair a nice shine and doesn't leave it feeling greasy and it's a great sealer that I use when baggying my hair. The best part is that you don't need a lot of it either. I use a tiny tiny amount and that's enough for my whole head. I'm still experimenting with how often I should use it but I know my bottle of coconut oil is going to last me a long while.

I haven't had this problem and it's been pretty cold here in GA the past few days. I ususally put the coconut oil in my hair at night or early in the morning a good hour or two before I leave the house. Maybe that helps to keep it from flaking up in my hair?

I got mine, Emerald Labs Coconut Oil, from the GNC. I was also thinking about getting Spectrum's coconut oil at the Whole Foods but the closet one to me is a little to far away. I did see coconut oil available to buy online on amazon and drugstores.

Coconut oil is da bomb!! There is no other oil that detangles and moisturizes like this oil. My hair just soaks it up. I love it.

i think the best coconut oil is from GNC. its so much silkier than the others. i have been in love iwth this oil since i was realxed and now that im natural i still love it. it was one of the first bandwagons i jumped on.

I have dry, itchy scalp. Nothing helped it. It even itched while I washed it. I started putting coconut oil on my scalp at least 3-4 times a week and the itchiness is almost gone. I love how it makes my hair feel.

I have to agree that coconut oil is the best. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it will make your hair hard if out in the cold weather. I can deal with this since it will go back to normal once I get indoors. Coconut oil makes my hair soooooo soft and shiny. Can't say enough good things about it.

glad u like it. another CO lover here. can't speak for others but coconut oil does not freeze on my hair. i do wet buns and wash-and-gos even in the winter with coconut oil and i've never had it freeze or get hard or turn white. (i've never caught cold b/c of my wet hair/head either.)

why it softens up once you get inside! don't get me started. i didnt know it would do that till a few winters ago my flat ironed hair was doused in vatika oil...my curls were frozen into place! i was freaking out till MIL was like well...that means your hair is really moisturized lol

M, you just gave me an idea.

How about mixing coconut with the almond due to the expense of the almond and the solidifying properties of the coconut! I do love both the oils; particularly the smell of coconut as you stated. Thanks for the idea nudge.

Also, you can use coconut oil on your skin too. I have been using it on my whole body for two weeks now after putting on my lotion and my skin doesn't itch at all anymore. (I suffer from eczema so that is a big deal to me.) And it makes my skin super smooth too.

i love coconut oil. i used to use spectrum, but one month i was broke so i bought the big huge jar of louana on the cooking oil aisle at wal-mart. they seem to work about the same, and neither has a scent, which is important to me since i usually use a fragrant conditioner and wouldn't want my sealant to interfere with that smell. also, my mom has a sensitive nose and wouldn't use it if it had a smell to it. i popped the container in the microwave and refilled the spectrum jar from the louana jar and gave it to her, and i put some in another small jar for myself. i keep the big container under the sink in the bathroom. that's the thing i like about louana....it's a generous amount, which is great since there are 4 people in my house using coconut oil now. i hear good things about the GNC one, so maybe i will buy it one day, although i will probably scowl at the price after getting this huge jar for less than $5.

we use it to keep our hair moisturized when wearing it straight, and after pressing my sister's hair yesterday i put coconut oil on it and brushed it to tame the flyaways. now that i have box braids, i will use it as a moisturizer on days when i don't feel like using my braid spray. i also apply it to damp hair after applying my leave-in of choice for that day. i did notice last winter it would harden on my hair, and since i was outside a lot walking to and from my classes, i used it only occasionally. i will use it through the winter this year now that i have graduated from college and i am working in an office building.

I don't mean to spoil the praise party, but my hair hates coconut oil! It leaves my hair feeling dry (like straw) no matter how much I dc and moisturize BUT the shine is amazing. I'm using up the last of it soon as a hot oil treatment but I won't be repurchasing.

I started using coconut oil after watching videos on YouTube of a woman that uses it on her ends every night. I started doing that and saw results shortly there after. I notice if I get a full Dominican blow out and my hair is bone straight, I have to go light on the coconut oil, or I'll get that stringy effect. I've just been getting my roots blown and the coconut oil works much better that way.

Wow, this has happened to me several times this year already.

It freezes up, but I don't see like oil chunks or anything lol. When I go from my door to my car, it's hard, but once I get in the car and the heat is on, my hair is soft again. For me it's just temporary...I actually kind of like feeling the hard curls on my way through the cold, and then do a 'boing check' when my hair has 'defrosted'
