Anybody still using these on their hair?

Updates? I remember that huge thread, but I didn't see (or I missed) growth/progress updates. It seemed like lots of folk were pretty interested.

Anybody?

(Search function is misbehaving at the moment, gave me pretty irrevelent results )

I use caffeine in the form of tea rinses. My tea rinse consists of black tea and nettle (which encourages hair growth) along with a few other herbs. I've noticed from the tea rinse that I don't have much shedding (so insignificant that it's only a few hairs) when I wash. I also notice no shedding after washing throughout the week. Even when I'm in braids and I take them down, there's very minimum shedding so I know the caffeine is doing something. As for hair growth. My growth is taking off but it can be from the nettle too and my eating right. I believe I've gotten over an inch a month (at minimum 3/4 both of which is more than my normal growth rate), but I don't measure every month any more so I don't know. What I do know is after a week my cornrows are loose and I have to redo them sooner than I used to. My hair is now just over an inch past MB and I believe the caffeine and other stuff has attributed to the fast growth as I was almost bsl in May. I started using caffeine late OCt early NOvem when the thread started (can't remember exact date) but noticed a surge in growth. HTH!

Keep in mind the caffeine is supposed to extend the growth cycle of the hair. So that it is barely in resting stage each year. So even if your hair doesn't grow that much more each month, but you lose less hairs, and you have more of a growth phase, you will gain more hair each year (and as for losing hairs you'll have the same thickness, not less than you would had you not used it...as we know some growth aids cause shedding but not caffeine)

I keep forgetting to brew me a cuppa before I get in the shower to rinse my DC out. I stopped using the oil once I found out that caffeine is only water soluble.

It's a consistent part of my routine. Not only coffee/caffeine extends the growth cycle of the hair and decreases shedding, it also gives a great inside shine (not a bling bling).
I am used with the scent.
I don't rinse anymore with it (stain my tub). I do spritz scalp and hair after wash. Between washes, I spritz with green/herbal tea.
Simple, cheap and easy!

I've not used it in a few weeks, but I need to get back to it. My hair felt 'different' when I did it. I also miss that tingle. DH loves the results as well.

I rinse in my kitchen sink so I won't be staining the tub or anything.

well I do testify that tea rinsing (havent done coffee) does decrease shedding incredibly!

I plan to keep it up but gotta find the best way to work it into my regimen-I too thought of stains in my tub and I aint even trying to have that, I will probably start doing it in my stainless steel kitchen sink I guess

I do my rinses in the kitchen sink. I like the idea of doing a spritz on the scalp too, I need to run to Sally's and get some spray bottles...

I have been doing tea and coffee rinses since 2007. I clean my tub or shower immediately after using and it has not left a stain. A few times I have been in a hurry and didn't clean the shower right away, it did leave a residue/streak like something was spilled and droplets on the shower wall that was easily removed with soap and water.

I do coffee rinses too. I used to get some serious shedding at my crown but not anymore thanks to that. I barely shed anymore when I comb. It's amazing. I rinse after wash and dc and leave in, and style as usual. I haven't noticed a growth spurt but the decreased shedding is good enough for me.

Thanks ladies!

LOL, I was waiting for you to come in here.

Sounds good to me. :yep:

If you have a dollar tree close to you, they sell them too.

Co-sign. At least for me, if I clean the tub immediately I haven't had any stains and I've done it since the start of the caffeine/coffee/tea challenge.

If you leave it, I guess I could see how there'd be a problem.

However, when I run out of black tea, I sometimes use the green tea that has caffeine in it, and I think that would be easier to clean for some if you're worried about staining as it's almost clear (slightly green).

I've been doing coffee rinses for the past few months with every wash, and I've notice dramatically decreased shedding. It's really incredible to see the difference. Definitely something I'll keep doing, and I haven't noticed any staining in the shower either. I just rinse it down when I'm done.

I co-sign all of the previous posts. ..

I can't say whether or not it has contributed to growth, but since I started using it Nov 2008 shedding has been nearly non-existent. I actually brew coffee on the stove (still haven't really gotten use to the fragrance-- I'm a tea drinker) and strain it into a large spray bottle I bought from Sally's with a funnel. Be sure do elimate all the grounds as they WILL clog the pump. My 4b crown LOVES this stuff! I was afraid of staining the tub as well so I'd always IMMEDIATELY wash it with soft scrub. I think the stainless steel kitchen sink is a far better option.
And the "tingle" effect is no joke. I CANNOT use this rinse before bed. Unh uh!:nono: Though it's a great way to get a boost if you're a lil groggy in the morning.:yep:

I prefer the coffee spritz. I am sure to cover all areas. For me, it's like a leave in: spritz and seal.

So once you rinse your hair with tea/caffeine you don't rinse it out with water? It's like a leave in?

It's up to you. You can rinse it out or not. If you have very sensitive scalp or don't like the scent (coffee), better to rinse it out (I did this in the first times, now I am used with the scent). I like the color (darker and shinier hair), so now I don't rinse it out. If you have high blood pressure, better not do it or do the tea rinse (less caffeine).

If you rinse it out, do you leave it on the hair for some time before rinsing?

I started using tea about 3 – 4 weeks ago and I will never wash without it again. Shedding is down to an all time low. Not sure about the growth yet but I’m happy. Oh and I don't rinse it out.

In-between washes I will spray on some green tea but not all the time. I found too much will dry out my hair.

Maybe try adding some nettle in there too for it's moisturizing benefits. I never have dry hair with that combination of nettle plus a caffeine tea be it black or green w/ caffeine.

I read that somewhere, sorry can't think of where. But I do notice that the nettle makes my hair soft, and it's also supposed to stimulate growth. I don't spritz the tea on my hair during the week, only my scalp and roots. Get one of those essential oil bottles with the dropper and just put it in your scalp like that or use a spray bottle but concentrate on the roots. I do it a few times a week too, so I don't know if I did it all the time if it would be drying or not, but I haven't had any dryness yet.

When I first read about the whole coffee/tea rinsing thing, I'll admit I was a bit skeptical. I typically shed like a dog in the winter, so I figured I give the whole tea rinsing thing a try because it couldn't hurt. Low and behold, the stuff actually works!! To be honest, I'm a little taken aback at how well it works too. I'd say my shedding has decreased by at least 80% ... at least!! I use the black tea as my final rinse and I even put about 8 oz. in my spritz bottle with my aloe vera juice, rosewater glycerin and castor oil. BEST.THING.EVER. I haven't noticed any increased growth though, but that's only because I just started doing this a couple of weeks ago.

And THIS is why I can never leave this board. Just when I think I know all there is to know about what's good for my hair, I learn something new.

The bolded had me running around town looking for the perfect spray bottle. We need an LHCF gas card or something.

I like the sound of that mixture! Thanks for sharing.

Lol, did you find one? I got mine from The Dollar Store. They're great :yep:.

I too do the tea rinses and I have lost minimal amounts of hair from manipulation. It is truly amazing. Thanks Iris :-)

I use it too. I just started about a month ago and used it while I was in a sew-in. I didn't shed alot of hair when I took it down. It's Saturday, so I'm about to start hair reggie now.

I'm confuzzled. Why come drinking coffee is said to be bad for you and stunts hair growth, but putting it directly onto your head is good for you?
