I am in the process of switching to a "lye" relaxer because I'm a 4b who's hair tends to break with no-lye. I was looking for the best relaxer recommended in all the forums and found that most of yall noted mizani, ors, phyto, silk elements and affirm as the "creme de la creme" for both lye and no-lye relaxers. Then I thought to myslef that maybe relaxers work best because of your hair type:ohwell: and maybe i could use a no-lye just a different brand:confused: So do you think there is any connection between ur relaxer and hair type? Plz list your hair type and relaxer (specify lye or no lye) experience so we can get to the bottom of this. So I can get my hair did next week:grin:

I'm a 4b for the most part and I use ORS and I know ORS is used by ladies of all hair types on the board.

I'm pretty sure I'm a 4 something and use Phyto II which is no lye. (I don't know what 4 I am, but I don't think it matters all that much)

I cannot tolerate lye anywhere near my scalp.

Hi TT8!

Im 4a and use no-lye. I did use lye in the past (college years) and really saw no difference. I just switched kind of randomly once i moved to NY and the Dominican Salon offered it. I was like, why not?

Anyhoo, I actually think there is a variety across the boards.... so not sure if you will really find a correlation in terms of hair type. HTH. :)

Ditto, except I use Phyto I.

Side note: Your stats might be flawed because you didnt define what a "working" relaxer was. Is it JUST one that doesnt break hair? One that gets the hair bone straight? One that doesnt get the hair bone straight? Etc.

My relaxer doesnt get my hair straight, but I like it like that. I use the same relaxer on other people and I am able to get their hair straight. So there are more variables than just hair type to consider.

*Ditto*

I made a mistake with lye against my will when younger....and I was dumb enough to do it a 2nd time when I knew better...I will never let my scalp cuss me out a third time..:(
