I did a search and couldn't find anything. What products in the grocery store do you use for your hair but are "intended" for consumption? Such as eggs, mayo, vegetable oil, etc?

I wanna try out some new stuff and buying "food items" seems like it would be cheaper.

Yep, EVOO IS the truth!

Honey is awesome for shine and moisture
Avocados always leave my hair feeling strong
Coconut Milk is also good
Yogurt is a good protein

You can try doing a search on google for homemade hair recipes and there are a lot of recipes and suggestions on there.

apple cider vinegar
extra virgin olive oil
baking soda
mayo
eggs
avacado
honey
coconut milk

all I can think of at the moment.................
its def cheaper but my family sometimes eat my supplies, need to start separating and hiding them....... :wallbash:

The items mentioned above are a good start.

You can get into different spices such as cayenne and cinnamon also, but I would start with the basics first.

I've tried Avocado, real Mayonnaise, Honey and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. All of which i'd use again, Specially the Avo and honey. I have a can of coconut milk I will try eventually.

I've used eggs, mayo, coconut milk, various oils, honey, coffee, tea.

Now I am using Crisco as a sealer. It works great for me and it's cheap.

I already use coconut oil, EVOO, honey, tried baking soda, tried eggs, mayo i think thats it lol.

But as I was in the grocery store I was like ummmm what else can I use lol or possible find other alternatives.

Thanks for the link bostonmaria ill check it out.

http://styles101.homestead.com/nathairrec.html#anchor_35822

I think I will be doing the coffee rinse to darken my hair. the color i put in it a while back is fading and I don't plan to re do it. oh, and I may add cloves too it too, and some rosemary(to do something with the grays), may even throw in some beet juice just for an added punch.

SEE, Boston, now you got me ready to experiment with natural hair coloring.

*apple cider vinegar and water to clarify...much gentler on my hair than shampoo
*oils...coconut (moisture on straightened natural hair), grapeseed (lightweight sealer), EVOO (prepoo) are my favorite
*eggs, mayo and EVOO for a protein treatment - just don't sit under the dryer!
*yogurt for softness/ temporary curl loosening
*i add honey and grapeseed oil to all my DCs...softness and sealing in moisture
*honey and cinnamon can be used to lighten the hair
*avocado oil (moisture on straightened natural hair) and sweet almond oil, as well as palm oil (add to DCs) are on my list of things to try.

Ghee...if you like to make Indian and Ethiopian food like me! Check out DLewis' website on how to use it..Never tried it on my hair though..hmm..

Here are some I use and have used:

Oil, tea, herbs, honey, vinegar, eggs (rarely), avocado (rarely), coconut milk (rarely/I would like to get the powder).

I've used others but haven't had a lot of success with those.
