So I've always heard that CW daily reduces breakage and helps your hair grow, but I didn't get it. You don't know how many hairs you are losing in the drain, more manipulation, better for naturals than relaxed (like me), etc. Wetting my hair so much scared me b/c I usually lose a little more hair than I'd like. But, with my recent discovery of the GREATNESS of Garnier and hearing so many ladies (lurking through the years :lachen:) on LHCF rave on it, I decided to try and just see how it goes.

Well, I have been CW daily since Sunday and I can honestly say I think it just might be for me! I have almost no breakage and am losing sooo much less hair in the shower. The only time I use manipulation is to finger comb SLIGHTLY to part and apply MT. My new growth is behaving a lot better which is great bc I'm trying to stretch 12 weeks (2nd week in Sept.). CW daily might be my new best friend :yep:

For ladies that have been doing this for awhile, are there any negatives you've noticed or things to be aware of?

I use to have a lot of build up and my hair would be really hard in spots. That was because I wasn't clarifying and I was using a conditioner with protein every time and my hair does not like too much protein. I learned how to balance protein with moisturizing conditioners and now I too have noticed less hairs in the comb and on the sink! Keep up the co-washes!

I have been doing every day, for not too long- only 3 months, and my hair has never been in better coondition.

Thanks for responding ladies! I'm also worried about that - I don't really want to use protein conditioners to CW b/c I think it may be a little too much with the MT and the Aphogee 2 min I do once every week or two...but I'm also afraid of having too much moisture. How would I prevent this? Also, should I clarify more than once every month or so?

If you're still doing the MY and Aphogee 2 min, you shouldn't have too much moisture. I think moisturizing CWs would benefit and help to balance things out :yep:. I'm a die hard CWer and it played an integral part in my decision to transition (9 mos post texlax yesterday ). No major shedding/breakage issues and NG is behaving so nicely!

I too like you was so skeptical of the whole cowash thing and really did not think this would be good for my hair(type 4 - relaxed). For the past 2 months I have cowashed my hair every other day and sometimes daily. I have nothing but good things to report. like moisturized hair, less shedding, fresh smelling hair, etc. The only problem that I encountered was a slight increase in breakage because my hair was getting over moisturized, but that was because I was DC'ing way too much in addition to cowashing. I fell back on DC'ing started using my Aphogee 2 min- and that problem was solved almost immediately. I think you should be fine with your monthly clarifying schedule. I clarify monthly and shampoo once a week w/ a non sulfate poo. I also use MT and think this is a great combo with the frequent cowashes.

It's the best thing I've done for my hair.
Just remember to clarify occasionally to prevent build up. I use weekly mild protein treatments too.

I cowash daily and I LOVE IT. It's only a spring/summer thing though .. and my 09, it'll probably be more like, every few days. No setbacks here, except if you damp bun, be careful how you tie or pin it up.

Sounds like everyone is doing the CW thing.... I have only done it a few times.

I know this is OLD topic -- I want to CW at least 3 times a week, BUT I have no idea how to style my hair. I am about 7-8 weeks post-relaxer and my new growth grows in like its 4z type. How are you ladies conducting business in a professional environment with type 4 hair that you CW everyday? My hair is shoulder-length.... thanks. If you have any threads saved, please send them over and I'll check em out!

I am trying to get away from wearing wigs, so when I do wear my hair I twist it out at night and bun or phony bun it. I learned to do the twists to my head and it looks nice. Also I wash while dinner is in the oven, etc so it can be dry in the morning.

Bunning, Wash N Gos or phony ponys work great for me. You can also do a Wash N Go held up with a banana clip. It's really cute!

Wet bun. :yep: I twist around (not too tight) and secure with 2 large bobby pins. I think an elastic around wet hair every day would cause damage over time.

Regarding OP's question about setbacks, the only thing I've noticed (which has already been mentioned) is to take notice of the type of products you're using so you can maintain the protein/moisture balance. I have used up several conditioners during the cw challenge and some worked better than others. So find a couple good conditioners that work for you and (try) to stick with them. Sealing with EVOO also keeps the softness even once the hair is dry.

Also, I shampoo AT LEAST once a week.

I work out regularly now and having a clean scalp every day is just wonderful. :yep: My ng was SO manageable during my last 12 week stretch, NO PROBLEMS. This is what really won me over to cwing. Previous stretches w/o it required me to baby my ng excessively - moisturizing 2 - 3x a day. :perplexed

I cw daily with relaxed hair and love it. I love feeling the of water on my scalp and having clean smelling fresh hair every day. I stretched from April 13 to August 8. I would cw, rollerset and airdry everyday. I learned how to adjust the dc'ing and am all good. I also use mega tek daily.

Everyday????? Wow. That's too much for my lifestyle, but I am going to try it more frequently.

It's really not that hard. I take my showers at night when I wash my hair. I use evoo as a leave in, then megatek on scalp, then roll hair and done. DC on Wed and Sat. I haven't been using heat when I dc, just do it and go. Heat penetrates better and faster so I think I'll start this next month.

When the weather starts to get cold I don't think I will be cw'ing as frequently though.

:yep: I CW in the shower, apply my leave-in, megassage and then bun it up. I do all of this when I'm pretty certain I'm in for the night. If I'm not sure, I'll do a WNG to be safe. It takes about 45 minutes total (shower included). Only about 15-20 minutes of that is CW/hair related though. If you don't apply a growth aide, you can knock off 10 minutes just by that alone lol

I still wash/DC my hair twice a week.
