This is a spin-off from carpediem628's friend who attributes her almost waist-length hair to grease and infrequent washing.

I can testify as well that my hair was its best about 2 years ago when I was like 10-20% relaxed, washed every 3 weeks and used grease to curl my hair after the wash. I stopped b/c my hair took so dang long to curl in its very mildly relaxed state, but looking back, it was so worth it.

So, this will be my regimen for the next 3 weeks and I'll determine whether or not to continue by the state of my hair:

Shampoo - Suave Clarifying Shampoo
Condition - Cholesterol (45min)
Rollerset - Blue snap rollers (I'm only chin-length)
Dry - Hooded dryer or overnight air-dry
Curl w/ ceramic curling iron w/ SoftTouch grease once dry.

Wait 3 weeks.

Maintain w/ nightly rollersets (w/ blue rollers)
Grease hair and scalp as needed.

And that's it...dangit! :whip:

This may definitely aid my transition process.

Any takers?

Hmm...unfortunately, I wont be able to join because my scalp would itch too bad:( . I still say that her friend's WL hair is attributed to genetics. I dunno...

I think her friend got length from no manipulation also.Good Luck!

I think that grease may be good in helping retain the length of the hair, but I wouldn't put it on the scalp. It will clop your pores and hinder growth. Maybe u can put some jojoba oil on the scalp. Good luck on the challenge.

I agree. My main reason for putting grease on the "scalp" is really focused on putting grease on my new growth. It's not needed for the skin, but for the new hairs that sprout through. Grease was the only topical agent that kept my natural hair moisturized when I thought nothing existed.

I was really considering this, but im too lazy to grease my scalp. J/k I dont know if her friends growth is due totally to genetics, probably do to the less manipulation as well. My neices hair (samne genetics) was the same lenght as mine in February of last year now her hair is down to her little training bra aproximately 3 inch longer than mine! what does her mama do to her hair? Wash it 1x a month 2x if shes lucky, blow dry it, flat iron it on that one or two days only and then grease her scalp every week , and redo her pony tails every 3 days. I thought it was neglect but my neice's hair is doing
great, better than mine  weird but true.

Now that i think about it my mom only washed my hair 2 or 3 x a month when i was younger, and my hair was as long as my neice's. So i will try this infrequent washing deal, and have my mama grease my scalp.

New regimen:
Every 2 weeks:
  • shampoo w/ Neutragena clean replenishing shampoo
  • condition w/ ORS replenishing pak
  • sit under soft bonnet/10 -15 mins
  • rinse hair in cold water
  • dry with big plastic rollers under soft bonnet
  • BUN!

oh yeah and have Mama grease my scalp 2x a week

I plan to keep this up til Xmas and see if this gets me to my first goal.

Hmmm... everytime I join a challenge I can never stick to it because I switch up on routines and hairstyles so much... but you know what? I'm gonna give this Dirty Challenge a try since I always find myself going back to it! :D

Here's what I will be doing:
Wash hair with Garnier Fructis Length & Strength Shampoo in two sections once every 2-4 weeks, then rinse out shampoo
Condition with LeKair Cholesterol Plus and detangle, let it sit, then rinse out cholesterol
Towel dry by wrapping a towel around my hair to absorb water
Apply Blue Magic Coconut Oil grease to sections of detangled hair, plait it up in sections or style in fat twists, then airdry
Once completely dry, unravel hair, then style it into small two strand twists (may get cornrows in the front sometimes)
Oil my hair as needed until my next wash

There you go! :weird:

Oh yeah, my friend swears by this shampoo. I have to give it a try again. I used it a few times and didn't really see much difference. I guess it's whatever works for you.

Count me in....this is going to be tough.

For the past two days, I've been using my Caruso to curl my hair and I must admit that it looks pretty, dirty and all.

I won't use grease, but instead my concoction of JB Castor oil, MTG, and essential oils. I have it mixed in an applicator bottle so all I have to do is squeeze - no parting or combing or anything.

I think I'm going to continue to put Tresemme Anti Breakage on my ends without washing it out. My hair feels really soft when I do that. I'll do that once a week.

We should take some pics the next time we wash our hair so we can see what we're working with.

Good luck ladies!!

Count me in! I'm officially starting today as this is the day I'm supposed to wash my hair. I'm skipping this wash and waiting until NEXT Wednesday. My routine will be as follows:

Wash hair with Mane 'n Tail Shampoo (moisturizing or regular)
Condition hair with Mane 'n Tail Deep Moisturizing Conditioner
Apply Cantu Break Cure through entire length
Apply S-Curl to pontail and JB Castor Oil to ends and wrap in baggie
Apply JB Castor Oil to edges and tie hair down for bed

I'll do deep conditioning under the dryer every month. I also don't comb my hair while it is in the baggie so I'll only need to comb twice a month.

Yay!

I started yesterday by greasing my scalp area, w/ emphasis on my new growth, recurled my hair for staying power. Then last night, I slicked it back w/ a scarf, and today I'm simply wearing that style. My hair is relly only chin/neck-length, but the little bump in the back stayed (because of the grease).

Also, I should mention that the green SoftTouch is the only grease that truly conditions my hair. All others just sit there on top of dry hair...this is not what you want. For some people, grease may not work as well, but emphasis should be put on a hairdress that actually conditions the hair throughly (including new growth).

I'm gonna join. I've always washed my hair about every 2 weeks or at the most every week (which was for maybe a year). After joining this board, I tried washing it more frequently, but I think I'm gonna go back to every 2 weeks again.

This is my plan (hopefully I can stick to it :) ):

I will go to the dominicans every other Friday and get a blow out.
I will take my own shampoo and conditioner.
I will oil my scalp once a week (I may try oiling w/ jojoba oil).
For the first week I will wear my hair down and wrap it at night, and then for the second week (beacuse it will not look as "fresh"), I will wear it up in a bun or something and do the baggie at night.

Everytime I see this thread I am tempted to join it!!! I'm going to get a weave next month and then I will join and wash only once every two weeks !

I use whgo and virgin hair ferterlizer so how would i add the grease in there wouldn't that way my hair down.

hmm i so wanna join... i think i will... no i wont... yehh i will... nope i cant... yeah i think I WILL. as its not warm anymore iv been washing my hair once a week and i feel its been helping.

*ill wash every 7 to 12 days (14 if i can push it)
*poo with keracare/ D'con lekair Cholesterol aloe vera (or olive steam treatment)
*coconut oil& my butter mix after each wash

*oil scalp with my MTG every 2nd day/ WGHO when ever i feel i need it.
*moisturise with lekair Cholesterol aloe vera mixed wiht water or my butter mix.

ill try and do this until christmas.

xx

I think your hair will thrive by doing this challenge mainly because of the infrequent washing which means less manipulation. I already shampoo every two weeks and I seriously want to go to three because I keep so much hair on my head and get no breakage when I don't shampoo. I dunno though.....I'm thinking that third week would be strictly buns.

^^^I agree. I think I'm going to join but I want to wash my hair one more time- today would be it for two weeks and then I'm going to get a weave. I'm going to push to washing every three weeks and see what happens.

how did you get all this growth so quickly?:perplexed its not even a month? wgo??? i need to get some

I think I am going to join this challenge. Do I have to use grease or will any hair dress work. I just ordered "hair butter" from carole's daughter...can i use that?

Of course! :yep:

The main point of the grease for me is because it's the only thing that I have found that truly nourishes my hair ends and newgrowth. And it's only that particular grease (SoftTouch) that does it. If you already know what hairdress works for you hair (and newgrowth...this is very important), use it! :)

I'm so excited guys.

I think it was the virgin hair fertilizer and maybe the wgo but them are the two i been using.

Awesome! We'll have an update in November!

I'm in... I already on shampoo once a week, so once every 2 weeks will be simple since I bun now. I think I'll have to be a little more light handed with the oil/ shea butter :) to greasy is a mess! I plan on shampoo this Saturday and not again until Oct. 27 (going out of town on Oct. 28th, so I gotta shampoo before I head out.

Every 2 weeks, I'm in :)
