Do You Also Stop Traffic With Your Long Hair?

Well, I can tell you this girl. I was so busy thinking my hair was probably becoming a tangled mess, but thankfully it fell back into place. And of course Michael giving me that lovely compliment helped a great deal. That man has women throwing p***y at him from their cars. I told him he needs to just put on a great big condom so he can protect himself.................he was not amused.

Anyway, I would LOVE to hear some of your stories about how you stopped traffic/turned heads with your long hair. BTW, I've also noticed that our long hair intimidates white women sometimes because they see that they ain't got nothin' on us. What are your thoughts/feelings/etc.???

ITA with the bolded part. So true on so many levels...I have a supervisor (White) who is always staring at my hair. She won't say anything to me because she can't stand me (the feeling is mutual ) but I catch her on a daily basis staring at my hair especially when I flat iron it and style it. My co-worker told me the other day that she couldn't believe a black woman could have so much hair with "weavation"...whatever.

My hair is not long at all, and I get totally different reactions from men when my hair is up versus down. When my hair is up, I very rarely get a second look. The funniest thing that has ever happened when my hair was down was a police officer circling around the gas station lot, coming back, then offering to pay for my gas, saying it was "on the city." Young men, like college aged or teenagers try to talk to me too, I'm always shocked that they actually think I'm their age!

If I was single, I would have a very hard time doing protective styles, I just don't get a fraction of the male attention.

I miss the male attention I used to get from wearing my hair down. I really do. I know I am not supposed to, but I can't help it.

Well to be fair Joi...blacks as a whole think the same way...re: the weave comments.

Thats true, Some of these Black women could have the same thing if they took care of there
hair instead of letting there happy scissor stylist cut it. But apparently Some of these black women don't know better yet

Let's face it, if you have the hair, the butt or the boobs, you are doing better than most women. I use to think I was deformed when white women would say I had a big butt. My butt is not big as in size, but I definitely have that round curve going on. But once I saw how the white guys were checking out my carriage, I knew that they were just insecure. After all a honey bun is so much sweeter than a plain old flat pancake.

That is so funny and true to me ...I am wearing tree braids and although its not my hair...the attention from the "long hair" is unbelievable...even when I am with my bf ... now he is starting to "trip"..talking bout "should I be worried about this long hair thing?" Mind you he has dreads below his butt and gets lots of attention from women when he wears his hair down to which I dont bat an eyelash cause I know my shyt is tight!!

At first, I was just kind of stunned and by the time I registered what had happened, she was already gone. My friend and I were just like, WTF ?

Oh well, hopefully I won't let any stranger get that close to me to do that again.

I have a more cheerful story, though:

A few days before my 21st b-day, I went to the L to buy some drinks for my party (I wasn't sure if I would get away with it, but I figured no one would bug over a day or two). The cashier stared at me the whole time. I was like, . Finally he says to me, "I like it when girls wear their hair like that". I smiled and thanked him for the compliment and presented my ID.

I walked out with my drinks. I think my hair may have gotten me booze (I paid for it, but still).

A couple months ago I went to this concert and afterward some of the artists were signing autographs in the lobby. Well, I was going around and buyng CD's, getting autographs, and taking pictures with my friends when one of the artists approached me and told me he loved my natural hair.

I was surprised and happy about the compliment. Even though people I know tell me all the time they like my hair, it was nice to hear ir from someone would had no obligation to be nice to me (it didn't hurt that the man was FINE either ).

Plus, it was one of the 1st times I had worn my hair all the way down in a long time and I was self-concious. I have that issue that a lot of curly naturals have where the crown/middle of my hair is wavy and the sides and back are curly. I wasn't sure the 2 textures would look good down (b/c it would be so obvious).

i only have shoulder length hair but when I wear it curly I would catch black women staring at my hair. most likely trying to figure out if it is a weave. When I called myself silk wrapping (it was pretty good on first attempt) black men were staring at my hair when they said hi.

on white women -- last summer I got a second job and all three of the latin men that worked there was on my tip. One of them would even do my job for me and he told our boss (a white woman) that he wanted a black woman. After that it was pure hell, she was mad. I couldn't take it any more; I quit.
