That is something that I read in "Curly Girl" to add clips to the ends of your hair while it is wet to weigh down the curl and prevent so much shrinkage. I'm curious to see if anyone tried that here?
i've done it it works, but u got to keep them on a few hours if your hair takes forever to dry like mines.
Another alternative some naturals do to stretch the hair is "banding" where you take an old pair of stockings and cut horizontal strips in the legs till you have a bunch of rings of pantyhose. grab sections of hair and band it from root to end using criss cross motion. let it set a few hrs or overnight and in the am you should have a stretched out curl pattern.
That's interesting Babyblue. Sterry mentioned a similar technique like banding where she put ponytail holders (probably ouchless bands, I can't remember) on her daughter's long ponytails and placed them all the way down the length of the hair. She then let the hair airdry.
I tried this on my hair but it took a long time to dry although the result was very pretty, like a braidout.
Edited to add:
And it did prevent some shrinkage on my hair. While the bands were running along the length of my two wet ponytails, they even looked a lot longer.

Oh yeah i remembered i forgot to mention you could use ponytail elastics also instead of panyhose rings. and your right it does leave a nice crinkly pattern in the hair sort of like a braid out which in addition enhances your own natural waves and crinkles
