its funny when the ppl that were making fun of my natural hair in highschool are now asking me for help to transition
i think its great more ppl are starting to realize that relaxers arent mandatory for us

That's so true. I feel the same way. There are some girls that I've friended from HS on facebook who were not so nice to me and teased me about my hair. Now they want to ask about products, websites, etc. It's kind of funny how things turn around.

My Mom had been encouraging me to go natural for a long time. She has been natural for over 20 years. But it was a decision I had to make for myself. I decided to give up the relaxers when my already fine hair got thinner and thinner no matter how much I cared for it. Now I absolutely love my kinks and I can't see me going back to the creamy crack. I have a lot more styling options with my natural hair.

I secretly wanted to be natural, but was too chicken...what fueled my decision was a set of microbraids gone wrong and mega breakage due to not getting a touchup (no knowledge of how to stretch):nono:...I was stationed overseas and worked with a young girl who had a gorgeous head of 4b natural hair. After she saw what was happening with my hair hair, she suggested that I go natural...I started researching natural hair care and the rest is history.

Yea. I'm seeing it a lot now. It doesn't help that I'm from New York though. Everywhere I turn folks are natural. The interesting thing is I never paid much attention to it or them until I started caring for my hair more. I didn't go natural for a trend I did it to save my hair. Most people that I've influenced have only done it for the health of their hair as well. Will it last for some of these folks I have no idea but it is nice to see.

I especially like seeing older women that are transitioning or have been natural for years.

I noticed this too! 2 of my friends just decided to go natural this year and i meet so many naturals on a daily basis.

I think a lot of it has to do with the info out there. I feel like between forums like this and youtube, natural hair doesn't seem so daunting. I have been natural several times through the years and plan to long term transition starting June instead of bc again.
The info out there makes me feel like this time can be permanent.

Im happy that so many women are deciding to go natural I hope quite a few decide to stay natural. Im sitting here right now with my hand in my head marveling at how good my hair feels. I just removed my weave the week after I gave birth to my son I transitioned in weaves till the end of october I spent 16 mos basically solid in the protective style and just now I am getting to know and love my natural hair.

i see so many naturals in the DMV now, its great. half the time im drooling over their hair when they give me a compliment. its really cool.

I see a lot of naturals here in LA too, even if they straighten. People randomly stop me and ask about my hair, but they probably regret it b/c I start spouting off about moisture/protein balanced and hair forums....
