fine hair=thin hair?

Hi ladies, not sure if this topic has been covered already. I tried to do a search, and this particular subject didnt come up. But, Does fine hair necessarily = thin hair? is it possible to have fine and full hair?? for example, the strands are fine, but having alot more strands of hair, therefore the hair being full. I ask b/c when i was getting my hair braided, the braider mentioned that my hair is very fine, but i have very full hair. This isnt the first time i heard this, and most of my beauticians say the same thing. but my hair doesn't look full to me. usually when i hear people mention fine hair, they usually mean thin. i hope this isnt confusing. lol. anyways, anyone else have any such experience??

Yes, it is possible to have fine strands, but a lot of density

I think I'm personally the other way around. Coarse hair with fine/normal density. lol

My hair is both fine and thin. When I was little my mom used to say I had "powder puff" hair, and that it was like her mom's hair (my mom's hair is both thicker and coarser than mine, but my grandmother had baby fine hair like mine).
My hair has a tendency to get flat, which I think is why I like the way it looks straightened as a natural vs. relaxed. It looks more voluminous now

I do think a lot of people say fine when they mean thin, and vice versa. We're on a hair board so we like to be accurate around here

I think the uniformity of your hair can contribute to it looking "full" as well. If your hair is a consistent density all the way to the ends, it will seem fuller than if you had tapering or layers.

Yep! Jennifer Aniston, I read once, has fine and full hair. I was reading an article by that Dr Avalon guy and fine hair is the diameter of the hair, whereas thin hair is how many you got on your head. I have both fine and thin hair so for me it's semantics.

BlackCardinal, looking at your siggy pic, your hair looks very full to me. so if your hair is thin, then my is definitely thin. and like your hair, it gets very flat. i noticed that if i just blowdry my hair, vs blowdry and flat iron, i have more volume.

Fine and dense checking in. Now if I can just keep my hair from breaking off it will be dense at the scalp AND at the ends.

It can be difficult to tell how thick someone's hair is when looking at the back--especially if they're using their 2MP camera phone and not a real camera
It's more obvious if you look at someone's ponytail (see attached) My hair can look fluffy, depending on how I've styled it, but if you gather all the hair together and take out the "air", there really isn't much of it at all. It's always been that way *shrug*

OP, as someone else has explained, on the forum we do distinguish thin (few strands) from fine (skinny strands). Out in the world, people do use the words interchangeably. My guess is you have fine but oodles of strands if you've been told that more than once. Although it's not impossible for two people that don't distinguish the words to use the same phrase, it's not likely so chances are they were speaking with LHCF clarity.

The pony tail is a tell tale sign. My hair looks similar to yours when gathered in a ponytail. People usually assume my hair is full because I'm natural.

I have thin hair with not much density. When my hair is twisted or plaited, you see a lot of scalp.

Another densely packed fine hair'd lady in the house!! I have tons of hair which people automatically assume is thick. But, then you pull a strand and you realize it's fine! One reason I don't wear it straight anymore because it is so fine and I lack fullness unless I do like others have said and use a blow dryer. But, I don't use a blow dryer. So I wear it curly and then I have voluminous hair.

Hi Ladies, I too have very fine, extremely soft strands, but mega density. There is so much of it that it looks "wiggy" sometimes, even to me!

I having been using JBCO to try and get some thickness. I could never really wear braids because it would look so thin.
