Frequent washes=faster growth?

Hi ladies, I know this one has been discussed before but I think it's really true. I have been doing frequent co-washes every other day this month, my last relaxer was may 15th, I measured my new growth and it was a little under 1 inch! My one month since my relaxer will be the 15th in a couple of days. I will be posting some pics soon and maybe y'all can tell me if it's one inch or just my imagination!

Wow, I started the daily washing challenge a few weeks ago I hope you joined. Congrats on the hair growth!!!!

I really really hope that it's true. I started working out about 4 or 5 times a week and I'm rinsing or co-washing my hair afterwards and once a week I shampoo my hair. I'm a natural so maybe it will take a little longer for me to see results. But I'm keeping my eyes on the price.
 
I don't think that it causes faster growth....But I can see how it doesn't dryout and the follicles are shrinking making it harder for the hair to grow. Not to mention the dirt is removed and bacteria are less likly to form on the scalp.

It doesn't seem logical to me that washing your hair more often makes your hair grow any faster.

What exactly would be making the hair grow faster? The stimulation to the scalp? The cleanliness of the scalp? Even people who don't wash their hair everday have clean scalps and if you need more scalp stimulation I think that it's pretty easy to give yourself scalp massages or put something stimulating on it, like rosemary oil. Of course I can be wrong!

Even if it doesn't make your hair grow faster, it helps you to retain length.
 
There's people that don't wash their hair at all (maybe once a month or even longer) and experience growth. I dont think washing hair more makes it grow faster.

Im NOT saying that not washing hair is good because that's a hygiene problem. Im just saying hair will grow whether u wash it or not...it depends on how u take care of your hair along with your body.

omg, ur my hair twin! lol! i got my relaxer on may 14th, and i've been washing my hair from every day to every three days, and i swear i have about an inch of new growth too. i dunno if its because i've been surging and been consistant with my vitamins, or if its because i've been drinking water like mad.
 
Well I think it does make our hair grow faster. Because it keeps the hair and scalp moisturized and therefore more supple. When your scalp is tight your hair will not grow.

But other races wash their hair daily and it does grow like crazy. The only time I see whites who have short hair with little or no density, it is usually greasy looking and unkept.

I think the washing may also be removing the harmful DHT from the scalp which also stops hair from replacing itself and ultimately leads to baldness.

I've been doing daily co-washes for about a year and have seen a big difference in my thickness and length.
 
Me too,
for a while I stopped doing co-washes often and my growth rate decreased but as soon as I started again I got a substantial amount of growth quickly, i really think that it works!!!!
 
I'm new to the boards and didn't se an explanation for this on the list of abbreviations, what are co-washes?

Conditioner washes- washing with conditioner, no shampoo
 
I believe that by having the constant moisture to the scalp does promote faster growth. I do daily co washes. I like to do them everyday in the summer since this is the time of the year when hair grows faster. I intend on trying to get the maximum amount of growth as I possibly can.
 
I love conditioner washes! I have started back to doing them more frequently. Not sure how much it plays a part in the growth rate, (can't remember since last year when I used to do them)but they do help my new growth to stay softer and I can stretch out my relaxers much longer. I also do not experience any shedding and I have much less breakage, so... I guess there is some truth in the growth because you are retaining more hair.

Well, for instance....if it is hot dry day your skin starts to tighten up, it even feels like it shrinking. I beleive that the same thing is happening with the scalp, when the scalp gets dry it should do the same thing as our skin and the pores tighten up.

That is what I mean by shrinking pores. Water is the basis of moisture. When water hits the skin, the skin loosens up as does the scalp. Washing the air more frequently helps keep the scalp moistured and therefore the pores are happy and they do not retract from dryness...therefore it seems as thought the hair grows faster...


I hope that makes since.
 
I don't know if it makes the hair grow faster, I can tell you it helps me A LOT in streching out my relaxer if I wash my hair every 4 days. I have far less of a desire to relax it, because washing it gives me a fresh "new" feel you get from having a relaxer.
 
Once I went natural, I started doing daily conditioner washes and I personally think this assists with hair health and growth. By reducing build-up and keeping the scalp clean and moisturized my hair seems like it can "breathe" more now...lol
 
I believe that it helps your hair grow faster because you are removing impurities from your scalp. Not only that but washing frequently keeps your hair soft and moisturized, with me my hair is soft and bouncy and shiny too. I can't wash my hair once a week, literally my scalp would be on fire! I wash every two days and do a shampoo wash once a week.

but, at least two other "experts" (with web sites)on growing afro hair long, state frequent shampoos are a key ingredient. they state AA hair should be shampooed at least once a week to remove the build up from the hair folicles. they believe it is a major reason why other ethnic groups are able to achieve length..many of them shampoo their hair daily.

Don't some of u just "rinse" and not shampoo or co-wash????
 
Just curious, is it possible that it appears that the the hair is growing faster, but what is really happening is that the relaxer is being washed out?

I don't think a relaxer can 'wash' out. It's not something I've ever seen happen, anyway. Water can't 'un-relax' the hair, no matter how much you put on it.

I do daily conditioner washes, and they make it easier for me to extend my relaxers, which helps me retain length. I don't think the daily washes make MY hair grow faster, but if some experience more growth, than that's really cool

I've studied hair growth and maintenance for 2+ years. I've read tons of books from Cathy Howse to Lisa Akbari and many more. They all believe in frequent washing because it helps maintain optimal moisture levels and makes hair soft and easier to handle. I personally believe in frequent washing because it makes my thick type 4 hair easy to handle. A book called curly girl (forgot the author) states that shampooing is mainly for naturally straight and or oily hair. Most with curls, especially tight curls need to do co-washes to ensure that they get moisture in there hair without stripping it of oils like most shampoos do. I shampoo once a week to remove buildup and my hair is grateful. I have had nothing but success since doing co-washes and I wish I knew about this years ago before I put a relaxer in my hair.

With all that I know now, I don't think that I would have gotten a relaxer, I am too lazy to cut it out little by little either

Relaxers can't wash out. They change the structural bonds in the hair. Once those bonds are changed (destroyed really), they can't be reformed.

I think the idea that the scalp is cleaner, the follicles remain unblocked, and the hair is able to retain more moisture (bc it's given more) as it grows so that length is retained is the reason that frequent washing facilitates growth on some heads.
