I'm not quite sure. My sister says that jet black would look "hard" on me, but my hair is NATURALLY black!!!! Is there a standard weave color called 1b that i could look at int he BSS, or is that a specific brand?ayoung1981 said:

I used to get my hair dyed jet black/blue-black in high school and it can be a 'hard' look.
My natural hair looks black, but when in light/sunlight you can see that is is a very dark brown---maybe that is the same w/ your hair
1B is a color.Iin most BSS when you go to look for hair on a track or braiding hair--1b is a dark dark brown/off black. 1 is jet black, then 1b, and then 2 which is brown etc...

Oh man...ok...getting nervous!!! it's the impulsive side of me that ususally gets me in trouble. The only thing I worry about w/ dk brown is trying to get the roots to match the already bleached hair (I'm wonding how well that hair is going to take?)Arcadian said:I'm sure it would look good but, would it be too extreme? thats going from one end of the spectrum to the other.
What about just going to dark brown? that may not be as stark. (plus you still give some gray coverage)

I love jet black hair, but you are right, it is not for everybody. I am darker than you and it looks great on me. I agree you should go try on some colors. Maybe 1B (off black) or 2 (dark brown) will work for you.

I used to think I had truly black hair, too, until one day I picked up a box of black hair color and wound up looking like Morticia Adams!
Blue/Black hair can wash you out, and make you look older than what you are. I use a dark brown. From you pics, I would even suggest a med-dark brown. You have an amazing skin tone, play it up!

Im actuall thinking of going balck also for the summer, I am nervous too because my hair has never been black. My natural color is a 4 (in terms of weave) and the only colors I've had was a burgundy in high school and some golden brown highlights in college (they are basically grown out by now). So I'm thinking of going for a dark dark brown myself. But thats only if my hair is the length i want it by my next salon visit/relaxer of May 23. So Im nervous too, I hope I like, its going to be different.

I'm jet black and I think it looks good on just about everyone except very light colored (black) women. It makes the hair look shiner,smoother and more healthy in my opinion.
I think your best option would be to go with a rinse. Jazzings (in pink bottle) has the best one anyone with no ammonia or peroxide. Jazzing is sold at the BSS too.

I'm med brown (but have olive undertones) and black black hair makes me look kinda sick. I do very well with a dark brown though. (which on me looks black)
However, my original hair color is medium brown.
I use wella demi colors. With wella, I can mix use it without heat for 20 minutes and don't have to worry about it it ending up on my pillow cases.
I don't know if colorshines but I've heard great things about it so would love to give it a shot.
I've tried jazzing in cherry cola once (many moons ago) I remember seeing it come out on my pillow cases quite a bit so maybe I didn't do it right or something. I don't remember how it treated my hair though.

My hair is jet black naturally, but it lightened a bit in the front bang area after a trip to Jamaica last year. I "fixed" that area by using Bigen Oriental black, but no one seemed to noticed, when I asked if they could tell that I had used the dye.
Anyway, I don't think Bigen can be useful in darkening really lightened hair, but I am not sure.
