Hair Type- HOw can i tell

I know that it has been asked before but how do i tell my hair type. My hair has loose waves but i'm no ananda lewis or chilli. Plus what is teh difference between 4a, 4b or 4c and things like that. What do teh letters indicate?Id read through the old posts but it takes so long
