Hair type

I'm new here and since I've become serious about getting the long hair I desire, I've heard about how we all have a "hair type"- like 4a or something. How do you know what your type is? I don't know what mine is.

Some of us prefer not to use this method of classifying hair types b/c it isn't accurate enough. I'll see if I can find the thread w/the new way to classify hair types.
