Does anyone ever have to use hairspray in order to hold a style throughout the day? If so, what kind and brand? I've tried several, some with alcohol in the aerosol can and some without alcohol in the pump, and they all seem to leave my hair either sticky or really stiff and hard. I'm trying to think of ideas to make a style last longer. Thanks in advance for the help!

i'm not sure of a good hairspray, but i did read somewhere that you can prevent stiff or sticky hair by applying the spray to your hands 1st then smoothing it on your hair. i tried this with my mom's generic brand hairspray and i had no problems with sticky or hard hair.

I don't use hairspray because it always makes my scalp feel really itchy & dirty the next couple of days after using it.

Also, if you're going to use it, be careful!! My teenage daughter fell in love with using hairspray around her hair edges last summer, and it TOTALLY wrecked her hairline!!

patticake - That spraying hairspray on your hands trick sounds interesting, I might try it.

lindy - I probably won't be using it every day, if I do use it, so hopefully it won't cause too much damage. Did your daughter's hairline grow back?

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Fantasia Liquid Mousse Firm Hold Spritz. A little goes a long way!
(This is the company that makes IC products)

I second Laminates! Its a great product...holds a flip really well....and no hard sticky hair... but I heard somewhere they may be discontinuing that product

Ok, I'd better stock up then!

I think that I have the Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine somewhere around, I might pull that out and try it again. Sebastian sounds really good too. I think I've seen the generic Sebastian Laminates at Sally's, I might try that one first. Thanks for the help!

What I love with the freeze and shine is that you can comb/brush it out of your hair and your hair doesn't have that sticky, gooey feel to it afterwards.

True. My mother and I have been doing that for years. Especially after we used Paul Mitchell's Freeze Spray and it took the skin off our ears!

Freeze and Shine is the only hair spray I've used now for over 17 years and I've never experienced that. Oh well, guess we all are different.

Oh yes another good one is Sebastian Shaper Plus. I use it when I dance and it holds well...and I can comb my hair afterwards... it isn't hard... and you don't feel a lot of residue on it... unless you use a lot. That's what I use instead of laminants when I need something that holds....
