I am asking because I have some friends & relatives always trying to tell someone what they "NEED" to do to their hair and I am looking at them like " Are You Serious" I mean their hair is a mess and they don't take care of it just slap some tracks in with that Brown Gel Flaking & Crusting everywhere & instead of scratching they are Patting the "Ish" out of their heads.

But they talk like they know and if you tell them something they get mad. I mean it would be different if I could see their hair. I listen to them telling people this and when people walk by. But I guess we Probably All have these "Hair Police" somewhere around us:lachen:

:lachen: I know what you are talking about. I have had people try to tell me what do do with my hair and the hair looks all crispy and they have some torn up ends. I just say oh yeah and let it go in one ear and out the other.

I'm telling my friend you were talking about her. j/k lol.

But seriously, I don't understand how people like this can think their advice is valuable. If you doing all your saying, but you stay stuck at the same length and your hair is thinning and breaking off, maybe they should try something else, but that would be too much like right.

Yea, folks are always trying to offer me advice, and I'm thinking, you can't telling me nothing, but I don't say anything, I just nod.:look:

Yeah. the people who get a touch up every 4 weeks and only wash once a month are trying to give me advice.

Uh yeah, MY OLD STYLIST!!!!:lachen:

Her hair is so short you can roll it with rice, and she USED to always tell me (I don't do salons anymore) what was good or bad for my hair. Just to name a few:

You should not stretch relaxers because that causes your hair to break.

Washing more than bi-weekly will cause your hair to dry out and break.

Her version of protective styling was a brick hard bun (made with brown gel and pump it up) that could easily be touched up with spritz and a curling iron.

She would press your "kitchen" when it got a little nappy.

I went to her for about 2 years, and my hair never made it past SL!!!!!!!:lachen:

I've had people w/ jacked up hair ask me for advice then proceed to tell me 'that stuff will make your hair break off," then tell me what they do.

Every now and then I get it but I often give off a blatant YEAH WHATEVA look or I say something outrageous as hell so they get the hint I ain't trying to hear their mess!

I seem to always have people telling me what my hair needs especially since I am college. All my friends want to tell me i need to get a relaxer. They tell me i need to invest in expensive products because what i'm using is not working. I get the comment that i must be a strong person to walk around like that. One of friends that is telling me this and She had just took her twist extensions out and had major build up. She wanted to plaster her head with a whole bunch of that brown JAM gel!!!! She did not wash her hair but piled it right on top. She did not wash her hair for another week after that!!! She use to have shoulder length hair but now its like 4 inches long all over from major breakage.

That is just downright NASTY! :barf:

I don't know why people do that. What I really don't understand is when they compliment me on my hair, and when i tell them what I do to it, they look at me like I'm crazy and tell me that my hair is gonna fall out . Ok UMM obviously, you see my hair is lookin good, I must be doing something right, but yet you tell me that my hair is gonna fall out??? I really don't get it.

Wow, sounds like we know some of the same people. lol

yes! my friend with thin short hair, who relaxes every 3-4 weeks and always had shorter hair than me. she keeps telling me to stop washing my hair so much, get a relaxer already cause the last one didn't take, and stop being so obsessed with haircare in general. Like that's gonna happen!

My mom, she's the absolute worse, she criticises everything I've been doing since I joined LHCF I get so frustrated tryong to explain these things to her, I'm washing too much, I'm waiting too long to get a relaxer why did I stop going to the salon, my hairs gonna break off etc. My mom hasn't had her hair out of weaves for more than a month since I was born (I'm 24) and her hair has never been past shoulder length.

Yes, aaaallll the time.

People be sleeping on my hair since nowadays it is always clipped up or in this bun.

My little cousing who hair (you can actually hear it crunching in your hands while touching it, it's so darn dry, no lie!) is a mess right now, always tells me that I need to "grease my edges."

That is terrible, I know what you all mean when they ask you and you start to tell them they don't want to hear it, I have been told that they don't have time to do all those Treatments & Stuff, that will take too long, I am like okay then why ask.

I know I Cherish My Hair, I Love my hair & Now that I am Natural I Love it even more but I still have to take care of it. I guess some just don't care about or want to learn how to take care of their hair.
I have a sister n law that is like that and she knows it all but her hair is the same length it was 2 years ago, but if she do something with it it will grow beautifully, But she said she don't have time for that, I even offered to give her Deep conditioners etc.

But I knew we all would have this in Common

:lachen: I love this thread. Yes, I know a lady who is always telling me how and when and what I should do to my hair, and I'm not seeing how her advice has produced great results on her own hair or her daughters. Glad to see I'm in good company.

that's why i'm not telling anyone how to take care of their hair. my hair isn't perfect and i just started a new regimen so it's gonna be a while before my hair looks like i can give someone hair advice. lol.

Almost everyday. This chick I work with is so sweet but CLUELESS about hair. I was talking about how I was going to go home and wash and condition my hair so I could rollerset to help straigten the roots so to stretch my relaxer a little longer. She gone tell me that all I need to do is spray my roots with pump it up spritz and flatiron them straight. I almost laughed in her face. She looked really serious and all I could do was keep looking at her hair with all of her bad bootleg brassy blond highlights and want to apologize to her scalp. I'm thinking about inviting her over to my apartment to hang out one day and slap some aphogee in that mess.

I thought I was the only one..... Yesterday after church I told this woman that I was going home to do my weekly washing of my hair. Her response to me was that washing your every week only drys it out, and that "our" hair needs the DIRT (Her exact words, not oil but dirt) to help it grow. I'm standing there looking at her head and it's full of flakes. She had on a black suit, which had flakes all on the shoulders and the back of it. But to top it off, she had a bald spot on the side of her head, which she had previously told me was from letting her 7 year old daughter help her apply a relaxer to her head.

After she got done talking all I could was sit there and just look at her with an expression like, . I ran home and jumped out of my church clothes and went straight for my shampoo.

I kept talking to my hair, "Baby I will never let you get like that I promise you, mama loves you"
