Help!!! My hair is shedding like crazy!

All this week my hair suddenly started shedding like crazy! The only thing different I used is this Miracle 7 leave in conditioner that I got from Sally's.

What can I do to get a quick fix? This is not the normal shedding. Every time I brush, comb, run my hands through my hair, it just rains hair all over the place :perplexed
 
FemmeCreole, how is your protein / moisture balance? There could be an imbalance. Also, there are some remedies to treat the shedding such as a protein treatment if you have not done one in a while, use a tea or coffee rinse, and some other types of rinses such as AVJ can held get shedding under control.
 
It may be seasonal shedding. It usually starts around this time of year for me and lasts 'til September.

I agree with the black tea rinses and garlic shampoo/conditioner.

When I had a bad bout with seasonal shedding I added black tea rinses and garlic to my regimen in 2009. I have not had excessive shedding since.

But, probably the most quick and effective treatment now is to apply garlic oil to your scalp for about 15 - 20 minutes (wrap your head in a towel). I purchased Rinaldo's Organic Garlic Gold from Publix supermarket.

Also, if you don't want to apply garlic directly to your scalp, add the oil to your DC. That's effective, too. You can also rinse your hair with the black tea before applying the conditioner, too.

To simplify my routine, I purchased some garlic powder from mountainroseherbs.com (it is very fine and non-grainy). I add this to my DC along with caffeine. This has worked for me in stemming excessive shedding year-round.

BTW, there is no lingering smell from the garlic.

I did a protein treatment with aphogee 2 minute protein treatment probably 4 weeks ago. How do you do a tea rinse? Just steep the tea and pour over head? How long do I keep it in for?

Can I use crushed garlic? Can I add it to my cheapie condish?

Yes, you just pour it over your head. I then apply my DC and steam for 20 - 30 minutes. (I always add the garlic powder & caffeine to every DC.) Used to use Alter EGO Impact Ego Hot Oil Treatment with Garlic. It's effective, but expensive. So, I just add garlic to any condish I'm using.

Yes, you can use crushed garlic. But I had no luck in getting it fine enough to use. Once I crushed some with my mortar and pestle and I still had pieces I had to pick out of my hair. LOL. You can use garlic in any conditioner. It does not affect its efficacy.

I believe the green tea will work. But since it has 1/2 the caffeine of black tea, I would double or triple the no. of bags I use to make it so that it's strong and you get the maximum benefit.

And I know what you mean about hot.....it is so very hot and humid here in North Florida!!!

Hey y'all... so I probably incorporated everything y'all said to do.
I shampooed with organix macadamia oil shampoo
I rinsed lather with water then I poured 22 oz of green tea over my hair from root to tip
I left the tea in for 20 minutes, covered under plastic cap
Then I added a tbsp of crushed garlic to my dc and saturated my hair with that. Left for 15 mins.
After rinse, I sprayed in organix argan oil leave in mist, then I oiled my scalp with coconut oil.
I then sprayed organix keratin flat iron spray and blow dried.

My hair is currently in 2 cornrows and wraped with silk scarf. In everything I did, I definitely saw a marked difference in the shedding. There was still some shedding, but the decrease was very noticeable.

How often you all tea rinse?

When I was having severe shedding last summer I tea rinsed every wash (1-2 a week). It took about 2 months for me to be comfortable with skipping tea rinsing. The first day was fantastic, but the shedding came back stronger, and it eventually stabilized after the 2 months. Now I only go it when I remember.
Black tea was my main rinse. I also did try oolong nettle and chamomile. I sometimes added some fresh rosemary and sage. I did mines under my moisturizing DC. Good luck.
I tried straight garlic oil scalp prepoo, and it just left me smelling like Italian food, lol.

A good aphogee 2 step treatment usually works for me, I have also had great luck using Queen Helen garlic poo ( i let it sit on my scalp for 10mins before rinsing) or black tea rinse, but if you do decide to do the black tea make sure you do it in the morning or else the caffeine will have u up allllll night. hth

Where do you find the garlic poo?

Oh and caffeine has zero effect on me, if anything it puts me to sleep
 
FemmeCreole I didn't realized you were in NOLA. Yes behind Paretti's... Fenugreek got a "food spice" smell but it goes away after conditioning/rinsing.LOL

I see you had some improvement! Glad the wonderful LHCF gurus were able to help.

Have you linked it back to Miracle 7, which was the only change you made? To add, my hair does mad shedding and breakage from certain products. Sometimes it's not right away, the shedding and breakage might take a few days to start.

When my hair reacts like this what works 100% of the time is sulfate shampooing to get ALL the product off my hair AND scalp. This means a very warm wash to open pores and vigorous scrubbing my scalp. Organix, IIRC, is sulfate-free. 'fate free never is enough in these cases, IMHO. It may slow but not stop the reaction. Maybe next wash day a sulfate shampoo is in order.

In the meantime, the tea will help you hold it together.
