How in the WORLD do you NOT shampoo?

I've seen many of you on here state that you don't use shampoo. How is this possible. Keeping my hair constantly moisturized causes a buildup and I shampoo once a week to clean the hair. By the end of the week, my daughters thick, natural full head of hair is begging to be washed! I also condition wash every two days but how do you go without shampooing at all???

Personally, I have no problem 'no pooing'. I don't use many products therefore I have minimum product buildup. If/When I do experience build up I use a clarifying conditioner. I conditioner wash 2-3 x a week.

yea i tried doing cowashes. I had issues with product buildup on my scalp. My roots did feel softer but I'd get major flakes like 1day after cowashing. maybe i'll get up the nerve to try again, and use less products.... :look:

I've started doing lo-poo which i basically I apply cheap conditioner to the length of my hair, and I take a quarter sized amount of shampoo and i mix it with a little water and i apply it only to my scalp/roots. I so that way the length of my hair isn't being stripped by the poo, but yet my scalp is being cleaned. works for me....

Many of the ladies on here that don't use shampoo at all also don't use very many products. For example. I condition wash very frequently but I don't put anything else on my hair after. Now I still clarify but I don't use shampoo I do an acv rinse.

We're just conditioned to think that you MUST use soap to get your hair clean...
Or there MUST be SUDS or the ahir isn't clean....
:nono: :nono:

I use a lot of products right now so I do use soap, but I have discovered CWs & they are awesome...

I see the dirt leave my hair with simple H2O!! It can be done, you just have to know what's in your hair. Especially those ladies that barely use anything, it could really work for them... :ohwell:

If I do not have braids, I'll poo 1 to 2x a week...otherwise, I use just conditioner. My hair thanks me for it :)

I'm still divided on the new poo thing. I'm washing 1x a week in braids but out of braids I have the similar build-up problems. and, I've tried baking soda to clarify. I like low-pooing because it gives me the best of both worlds.

If I used no shampoo, I'd have a horrendous case of acne. It works for some but certainly not for everyone.

I'm a no poo-er... I clarify occasionally... otherwise... I use conditioner and rinse thoroughly while combing... I had problems with buildup...but...combing while rinsing seems to be helping me to keep that from happening again.

... Most conditioners have surfactants in them...these are the things that help lift dirt and oils from your hair. However these surfactants are gentler than the ones in shampoo.

If you must have suds... I definitely recommend going for the low-poo technique.

I have to shampoo twice a week because I grease my scalp, and I want to get rid of any buildup at least that often. Depending on what I use on my scalp, I can go a week without shampooing (something light), but I still MUST SHAMPOO at least once a week!

I have to use shampoo or I will get buildup. I use a small amount though and I only lather once.

I use to Co wash but I no longer do that. I use water and occasional acv or fruit vinegar rinses. My hair and scalp is lightly sprayed daily and heavily sprayed with water once a week. I use little products. I message my scalp and occasionally use a scalp oil recipe. My hair has never been shinier and my daughter is my tester and agree's my hair is softer than ever, clean and smells great. Detangleing is easier than ever. I will sometime in the future if needed(so far it has not been needed) maybe deep condition. But oh well it has allowed me to go light on products and that is why I have no build up. If my hair was with build up it would be dull, frizzy, and tangly, and my scalp would hurt.
My diet is all natural foods and a balnced fat/oil intake.

I have to use shampoo since I use gel on my hair sometimes. :yep:

conditioner washing out gel... yeah right!!!

It seems that some people can do this and some people cant. I have no problems with it and I have no idea why , cause i really really pile products on. I use thick creamy conditioners for my washes and most of the time i use more than one. and my hair and scalp is totally is clean. My daughter usually needs a shampoo faster than I do but for the most part she does good on just CW's too. I dont know why this works for some and not others. and I never clarify , cause the one time I did.....I really hated how stripped my hair felt. it was terrible.

It all depends on the conditioner.
A cheapo like VO5 suds up just like shampoo and gets my hair clean.
Plus I only use StaSofFro to moisturize my hair so I don't have any buildup to begin like.

I have to shampoo or I would have serious scalp issues. I do like the idea of putting conditioner on the length of my hair and just shampooing my scalp (I need to try this). But the one and only time I CW, I had to rewash my hair the next day because my scalp was itching bad.

I haven't used shampoo since Thanksgiving.. I never have any buildup problems.. I pretty much stay on the CG routine.. I also don't use silicones.. except for water-soluable ones once in a while..so I never get buildup from that.. I do use some oils and shea butter once in a while..but so far so good with not ever getting any buildup.. I CW daily and scalp wash with Devacurl's No-Poo once a week..

You can try diluted shampoo or a shampoo/conditioner mix too. Neither one is as harsh as shampoo alone. I always saturate my ends with conditioner too.
Take care,
G

I've been doing only weekly CO Washes for the last three weeks with no problems. My hair comes out clean w/no buildup, I dont use a ton of products on my hair either. So not shampooing can work for some, but not all.
